The DC Government is pretty much corrupt all the way thru, from the Mayor on down. It's pretty much always been that way, and this probably applies to governments everywhere come to think of it. Power corrupts people.

Not everyone elected to office is dishonest, but certainly federal and local politicians in Washington are doing their best to make us believe otherwise.

No, It's pretty corrupt. As a person who lives in NOVA and listens to NPW they are reporting the same stuff. It's rotten to the core.In fact NPR had a reporter talking to Fox DC last night and the NPR reporter mentioned something about Kwame R. Brow being investigated which caused Kwame R. Brow to come down where the interview was being held and start yelling at him. It's fun to observe from the outside; if I lived in the District I'd be disgusted. but hey they still elect Marion Barry to the council so I guess they deserve it.

Stop electing criminals to public office. These guys didn't elect themselves. The people of DC re-elected Marion Barry knowing full well that he spent 6 months in Club Fed on a drug possession charge. You reap what you sow.

You do realize that there's no direct connection between the Fox News Channel and the news department of Fox Broadcasting Company's Washington, DC local affiliate WTTG-TV (which runs MyFoxDC.com), right?

Ugh in my haste to submit an intelligent post I misspelled NPR (I once asked in kindergarten how to spell VCR so I'm used to mistakes like that) and left on the 'n' for Kwame R. Brown.
Sorry

The reason this REALLY pisses me off is that the money was supposed to go towards the childrens sports programs. There are AO MANY kids in the District who could have benefitted from the structure that sports teams provide. I hava a little cousin who played youth football and the farking parents had to take up collections for basic things like chin straps and helmet decals because the funding wasn't there. Meanwhile this dick is living it up off of the money. This isn't about Democrat, Republican, or the cities demographics. This is about a farking theif who stole from children. Bury his ass under the jail.

It's time to take home rule away from
East Detroit
Washington DC. They've proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they can't handle democracy. Have congress run the place like they did before and clean the town out literally and turn the ghettos into park lands. That's what is already happening in Detroit on a voluntary basis. Relocate the trash to Newark, Oakland, Compton, Baltimore and even Detroit.

I don't think the Mayor is being investigated. He's a schmuck, yes. And there's a recall effort, but he's relatively clean. Thomas and Kwame Brown are crooks for sure. Vincent Orange too. Jack Evans isn't squeaky clean either.

Ten comments so far, nobody mentions the obvious: this corrupt city administration belongs to the Democratic Party. The same is true for just about every other large city administration--they are Democrats and they are corrupt to the bone.

DC seemed to be headed in the right direction vis-a-vis corruption under Fenty and Williams. Were they just better at hiding it or did things fall off the table real fast when Grey was elected?

mike0023's logic:
All cities have Democrat administrations.
All Democrats are corrupt.
Therefore all city administrations are corrupt.

Campaign finance irregularities, cronyism and short-circuiting the appointment process to put family members in high-paying jobs with the government:

There were allegations being made against Gray before he was even sworn into office.
And four city council members (including Barry) + the mayor are (or recently were) under investigation for corruption:

And since we're reminiscing about the stellar DC government, let's not forget the
$50 million embezzlement scheme

There is only one solution to the DC problem. Take the federal buildings and embassies and make them part of a federal enclave with no elected government. Take the residential parts and absorb them as into PG county and make DC itself an incorporated Maryland city. Maybe give NW to MOCO.
Both sides would hate the outcome which is how you know it is good. Maryland doesn't want to deal with DCs shiat because they already have Baltimore. Republicans would hate it because the population change would give MD another representative who would most likely be a person of color. Democrats would hate it because they couldn't pack the senate if DC were made a state.
I'm an MD resident and I don't want DC it but thats the "fair" solution to the DC representation issue.

Subtard
, it's "chairman," not "president," and it's 2 council members out of 13. It also isn't that common an occurrence, compared to many other cities.
Take NJ (please). For example, "You have to go back to 1962 in [Newark] to find a mayor who completed his time in office and wasn't later indicted for it." -- WSJ, 2009 [ http://tinyurl.com/mql9xn ] Shall we talk about Louisiana? Chicago? NYC? Yet these states and cities all have reps in Congress, and get to elect their own officials and make their own local laws.
You really think things would be better if Congress ran it? Really?

Here's a related question: Why are most incorporated cities (or areas with a high population density) tend to vote democratic? I have yet to find a city council that has a relatively even political divide at the local level. State level, things tend to be a bit more even.
Try finding a democrat in the middle of a rural area.
I've heard conflicting theories as to why this is the case and wanted to see if any farkers would be willing to stir the pot a bit.

Try finding a democrat in the middle of a rural area.
The state of Vermont, parts of Northern Wisconsin, the upper Rio Grande valley in New Mexico, and numerous rural, predominantly African American counties in the South all would like a word with you.

Draconian gun control is one of the more obvious symptoms of the liberal nanny state. Liberals, who seek to establish a nanny state, hold the people in contempt. In liberals' view, the people cannot be trusted to take care of themselves. They cannot be allowed to play with guns. They are weak and stupid and must be protected from economic hardships. The nanny state must "take care" of them (through Section 8 housing, food stamps, Welfare, ObamaCare, etc.). A person coming into politics with this attitude of contempt for the people is predisposed to engage in pubic corruption. He may even tell himself that he is doing it for the sake of the people: if I steal from the people, I can stay in power longer and the people will continue to benefit from my enlightened rule. Then again, some of them (corrupt Democrats) are just cynical liars and thieves. It's a lot easier for a corrupt pol to stay in power when the population is deprived of freedom of speech and the right to bear arms.

Citation please?
Here's my take:
Population centers are urban, and that's also where media is. Media tend to report most often (good or bad) on what's nearby, and what will reach a broad audience. Therefore big cities get most news coverage.
With more people vying for scoops, investigative reporting in cities tends to be more aggressive. Larger populations mean corruption is more lucrative (it's the free market at work!), and thus more newsworthy.
Cities' populations often demand gun control laws because while guns are more of a tool in rural areas, in urban areas, they're a one-purpose tool. Accidental shot in a rural farmhouse goes through a wall, nobody hurt; in a rowhome or apartment, you've just killed the neighbor kid. So guns in cities are nearly always going to be more problematic -- and there are fewer legitimate reasons to possess one. Visibility of gun crimes in cities means people are more aware of it and more likely to demand action.
So where you hear about corruption and where you hear about gun laws are the same because more people are there. :)

Corruption exists wherever there is money and power. Ignorance feeds corruption.
The claim that there is a pattern of attempting to deny the rights to bear arms and engage in lawful free speech might have more sway with me if the most frequent proponents of that theory weren't engaged in a lengthy campaign to deny voting rights, education, health care, and equal rights to their political opponents -- or to deliberately weaken the underpinnings of rational thought on which this country was founded to further their religious agendas or personal fortunes.
