Meh. Looks like a picture of a standard purchaser of the .50 AE Desert Eagle. If it was plated in a precious metal I wouldn't be shocked.
Interesting and unique design, otherwise a fairly worthless jewelry gun and/or safe queen. It's not the lack of reliability, it's the lack of portability. Who the hell wants to carry something that huge? If I'm going to carry a giant handgun I might as well suck it up and haul a rifle with me.

Your reading comprehension seems a tad weak this morning. I didn't say "typical gun owner" (of which I'm one) or "typical firearms enthusiast " - I said "typical gun-fapping pussy" - a phrase that does not in any way describe most gun owners. If the shoe doesn't fit you, don't wear it or defend it.

I've fired the .44 Magnum version, alongside a Smith and Wesson Model 29 also chambered in that caliber. There is a significant reduction in recoil with the Desert Eagle. That makes it easier to shoot than the revolver. I could see carrying it for things like hunting big game (deer, black bear) with a pistol, perhaps even topped with an optical sight of some kind. I can't recall how accurate it was (this was 25 years ago, roughly), but certainly it should be good for shots out to at least 30 yards.
As an everyday carry gun? Not so much, but not every gun is made for every situation*. It is a niche weapon.
I like to make the analogy with golf clubs: No self-respecting golfer would go a round of golf with just a 9 Iron in his bag. Think of the Desert Eagle guns as akin to a sand wedge: Optimized for a particular set of circumstances, but not for general purposes.

My griping is mostly regarding the .50 AE version, its ballistics suck. Back in the 80s it served a purpose since it allowed "hotter" rimmed revolver rounds to auto-load. Today you are better off with a .454 Casull for hunting or one of those .500 S&Ws. The .357 version of the DE isn't terrible. I've shot the .357 and .50 AE versions before and they do have reduced recoil. Doesn't make maintaining and cleaning the gun any easier and doesn't make up for the elephant sized grips.

A brief synopsis of my views on this subject: A gun is an appliance. It performs a task - it propels a lead pellet, at a high velocity, in a direction of the user's choosing. Lacking that choice, it lies there doing nothing, like any other inanimate object. it has not morality, no values, and no philosophical significance.
Unfortunately, there is a sector of our population who are pathological on the subject. Some of them regard guns to be terrifying and evil - a veritable tool of the devil. Some of them regard guns as almost sacred repositories of courage, manhood, and liberty.
Both groups are certifiably insane. They love(or hate) a GODDAMN APPLIANCE.
If you met somebody who felt one of those ways or the other about shovels, you'd throw a straight jacket on them without hesitation - but somehow this bizarre attribution of inherent moral qualities and powers to an inanimate object is taken as normal when the object is a gun.
I do not share any of those views. To me guns are neither good nor bad, and possess no power. They are not a source of evil, nor are they a substitute for courage.
Just. An. Appliance.

A couple of points:
1. It wasn't my gun, so I didn't have to clean it :-)
2. As for hunting, I know a guy who does it with a revolver in .45-70 Government. I haven't fired that one, though I imagine it has a bit of recoil.
3. Yeah, the grips on the DE are too big for my liking, but then again, so are those double-stacked 9mms.

OK, so survey time: What is the worse gun you ever had to clean?
For me, AR-15/M-16. And I say that as someone who now shoots black powder almost exclusively (flintlock transitional long rifle).
All the little nooks and crannies, and the bunch of delicate parts, make for a gun that is a pain to clean. Cleaning up black powder fouling is a comparative breeze compared to that.
/Easiest: Mauser-ish bolt actions.

Tie between gas impingement AR-15s (Nooks and crannies and practically inaccessible chamber), the Desert Eagle (same number of nooks and crannies, but less access) and the Walther P-22 (getting the fsking recoil spring back in, I'd rather chase a 1911 bushing around the room).
Buddy of mine was an armorer in the Army, he once had an E-1 bring in an M-4 that wouldn't extract. Root cause, the idiot had managed to get an M-9 extractor into the bolt carrier in place of the M-4's extractor.

Colt Walkers may be large, but as far as revolvers go, not all that powerful. A Remington New Army is a more powerful, though less 'photogenic' BP revolver.
Plus, all Colts can eventually 'shoot loose' if you consistently use maximum loads, due to the use of a single wedge to hold the barrel to the frame, unlike a revolver with a top-strap (like the aforementioned Remington).

I bought the 12ga from a gun show used, so cleaning it is a snap
I bought the matched pair new, so new in fact that it still had all the plastic on it. It also had all the grease coating they use for shipping and getting that shiat off without scratching up the gun (i'm anal that way) was a biatch, that grease was gunked up EVERYWHERE

I do agree in every respect - I owned one for a few years, and while it's fun and interesting to shoot, it's more of a conversation starter at the range or with friends. I think the main reason I bought one is because it was on counter strike back in the days when I played. :) I'm 6'1 // 220lbs and it can fark me up if not held or fired properly.
If this was a TRUE piece of red neck trailer trash I would doubt their ability to afford one. They start at about 1000 dollars these days and only go up from there. I hated selling mine but i made a tidy profit on it, and to top it all off they are quite a PITA to clean. Even when making my own shells it was about $1/round to shoot.

Sorry to be pedantic at you buddy, but the "Baby Eagle" marketing annoys the hell out of me and is a hot button of mine. The "Baby Eagle" and the Desert Eagle aren't really related to each other beyond the manufacturer. Semantics I know, but I find the whole "Baby Eagle" marketing thing to be nearly as idiotic as Glock's "Safe Action" trigger bar nomenclature.

I understand the Remington is a superior design (and I want one!), but the Walker (I have one) holds a 60 grain charge and is/was considered the world's most powerful handgun for over 90 years, until the .357 magnum came out in 1935.
