Come on City!

2012-01-06 10:10:01 AM
Damn, I really wanted to see Man Utd hand out some revenge to City. Based on recent form (not to mention a ridiculously long injury list), this rematch could not have come at a worse time.

While we wait for the matches, here's Graham Poll calling the state of officiating in the EPL "disappointing."

He may have it, but I don't think his players do. Too much discontent in the team, it feels like from afar.

discontent? They're swamped with injuries. When you've got Valencia playing right back, it's more than discontent. You can't expect to win constantly when you're not playing your positions.

I blame Rooney's hair.

I miss Mark Chapman's weekly ELP podcast largely because I thought Poll had some interesting comments to make on particular officiating controversies. I wasn't expecting to care at all for what he had to say, but found it surprisingly interesting.

I also wasn't expecting an FA Cup thread before tomorrow, so today is looking better and better (*crosses fingers to have meetings for the afternoon canceled*)

Yep, MUFC has the most injuries of any EPL team right now, while Manchester City has the fewest (one or two, I think). Which makes their position on the table that much more impressive.

Okay, scratch that. Now it's officially Sunderland at the top. But the point stands.

Could be setting up nicely for a De Jong critical red in the match. Still think City will pull it out.

Liverpool's team today (reported by the BBC)

Reina, Kelly, Carragher, Coates, Aurelio, Gerrard, Spearing, Maxi, Shelvey, Bellamy, Kuyt.

Subs: Doni, Carroll, Henderson, Downing, Adam, Skrtel, Flanagan.

I didn't even realize Fabio Aurelio was still with us!

/I fail.

That's been true for a large part of the season, in fact, which piles on the impressiveness. Here's the MUFC injury list right now:

Fabio
C Smalling
N Vidic
J Evans

A Young
D Fletcher
M Owen
T Cleverley

T Bebe

Throw in a goalkeeper (De Gea plays like he's crippled much of the time, so he'll do) and one more striker and you've got a decent EPL team in its own right.

The other invisible advantage that City have is that their squad is so rich, they have some very good players out on loan at other EPL clubs. Those players play against City's rivals but not, of course, against City, giving City even more advantage from it's ridiculous spending levels.

/Strictly speaking, Sunderland has more names on its list right now, 11 to MUFC's 9, but 6 of those are listed as expected back by Saturday.
//Yes, I know Bebe is out on loan.

Guess they're gonna have to work for a draw now. Nice shot.

Cripes what a strike. Left footed volley from outside the 18 into the upper 90.

...and now the equalizer.

i can appreciate that kk wants to get playing time to the bench, but could he have at least played a couple of our regs on the back line? it's not like our defense has been our strength this year or anything.

"Shelvey tripped on his own laces when the goal was open."

Hahaha, good stuff.

was that shelvey who just tripped over the ball with an open net? maybe there is a conspiracy afoot :0P

The EPL flexes their power on the referee again. Why else do they have that little radio in their ear except to call penalties on non-EPL teams that threaten one of the Big Four?

Yeah, you aren't stopping that.

It's only a League One game, but Jordan Rhodes of Huddersfield Town has five goals at the moment. Not too shabby...
