It gonna get messy.

2012-01-05 11:08:52 PM
Doesn't matter. Still a statistical tie and frothy will be out of the picture soon enough.

2012-01-05 11:09:26 PM
They'll both end up with the same number of delegates either way, right?

2012-01-05 11:10:09 PM
Yawn. Doesn't matter from any practical perspective and the pundits have already moved on to NH and SC.

2012-01-05 11:10:16 PM
I blame ACORN.

2012-01-05 11:11:31 PM
I knew it! RON PAUL was cheated!

2012-01-05 11:12:05 PM
Shaggy_C: They'll both end up with the same number of delegates either way, right?

It doesn't even mean that. The vote is purely advisory, and can be overridden at the state convention later on.

2012-01-05 11:12:31 PM
Republicans: still forgetting votes to get a certain outcome. For ten years running (so far)!

2012-01-05 11:13:04 PM
Come on, Mitt. You have to save the voter fraud for the actual election

2012-01-05 11:13:14 PM
EponymousCowHerd: It doesn't even mean that. The vote is purely advisory, and can be overridden at the state convention later on.

So you're saying RON PAUL has a chance!

2012-01-05 11:13:22 PM
"Edward True, who personally supports Ron Paul" stopped reading after that. Consider the source. They tied in the number of delegates, anyway.

2012-01-05 11:15:49 PM
I. Do. Not. Care.

2012-01-05 11:17:00 PM
And the fighting over an anthill begins.

2012-01-05 11:18:53 PM
The obvious tag must still be hung over from 12/31.

2012-01-05 11:18:54 PM
I'm not voting GOP either way, but my impression of Romney would soar if he came out said: "I couldn't care less about those 20 votes. If it means Santorum won, so be it."

2012-01-05 11:19:05 PM
It's obvious that Romney's going to be the nominee. But the longer that Santorum, Paul, Gingrich, and Perry can be convinced that they have a chance so that they continue to stay in the race and attack Romney, the better.

2012-01-05 11:19:23 PM
these Santorum jokes don't write themselves, subbies. Need to put at least a dash of creativity into it

2012-01-05 11:19:35 PM
They're not committed delegates...can go wherever they choose at the convention. Which I still hope is a big, brokered mess of a floor fight that puts even the primary season to shame.

2012-01-05 11:20:11 PM
psshhh... Iowa's just another AW.

farkityfarker: It's obvious that Romney's going to be the nominee

Yep.

2012-01-05 11:21:05 PM
You know what? Yes... I want this to happen. I want to see Santorum win the nom. Just so in September, when he steps up to the podium, and looks to his right, he'll see Obama there, calm, collected, going over his notes in a rather casual way... and he'll realize that he's up santorum creek.

I want to see it, I want to see it dawn on his face that he just can't compete.

/Prick.

Are they desperate enough to turn to Jeb Bush yet, or will it take a few more weeks?

This presupposes a sense of self awareness and introspection that I'm really not sure Santorum has.

Don't Troll Me Bro!: Doesn't matter. Still a statistical tie and frothy will be out of the picture soon enough.

Yup. Romney is guaranteed a strong showing in New Hampshire, and NEITHER of them will do well in SC. Romney has the money to carry a bunch of states on Super Tuesday, and it's all over but the crying.

The news media is going to pretend that there's still an actual race going on, but it's all kabuki.

Will-Mun: I want to see it, I want to see it dawn on his face that he just can't compete.

wouldn't matter. the mainstream media would make sure it was a horserace. they will fall over themselves to build up the republican nominee, whoever he is. they're terrified of being called liberal by fox and the rest of the wingnut media outlets, so they've been virulently anti-obama since the summer of 2009 and the rise of the tea party. there's no reason they should change now.

Yeah, that's what I said in 2000, substituting "PubeHair" for "Frothy".

I was wrong...

Suddenly Santorum Explodes From Behind!!!

/The Headline I woulda went with.

RON PAUL???? We all know that he received an extra 3500 but they weren't counted because the media only cares about a two party system and the corporates.

/RonPaul

unfortunately, this.

No recount on caucuses. TPM is turning into Kos. But go ahead, argue this for another 75 posts, I am going to bed.

2012-01-05 11:39:53 PM
Santorum + Google + I'm feeling lucky

2012-01-05 11:39:55 PM
Gonna be a Romney/Christie ticket. The GOP apparat will try to soothe the anti-Romney contingent with a popular VP pick and get Christie primed for his own shot at the big job.

2012-01-05 11:43:24 PM
Felgraf: This presupposes a sense of self awareness and introspection that I'm really not sure Santorum has.
That presupposes the win or lose conditions make sense, which I have not observed from any Republican commentator on Presidential elections in the last 20 years.

There were people that say that Bush pwnzored Kerry and that Palin wiped the floor with Biden, you understand.
These are politicians. When they debate, it's not like a boxing match where you whale on each other until the other side just can't take it any more and admits defeat, and the purpose of the ref is only to make sure that certain rules aren't crossed. It's not like playing air hockey, where at the end of a preset time there's an undeniable numeric score declaring the winner.

It's more like kids playing Imaginary Lazor Tag: "I got you!" "No you didn't!" "Yes I did!" "No you didn't!"

Thigvald the Big-Balled: Gonna be a Romney/Christie ticket

Nope. Christie can't run without resigning as governor of New Jersey, and he's not going to do that.

I'm thinking Mitt picks a southerner. Maybe even Perry. Paul would be my fantasy, as the Paul/Biden debates would be EPIC!

2012-01-05 11:49:32 PM
Here's the deal. Mittbot2008v2.0 knows his ONLY chance of receiving the GOP nomination is this year. He is not liked by the establishment, he is not liked by the base, he is not liked by most anyone except those with very deep pockets. Obama has a very good chance to win re-election this year and the serious contenders will wait until 2016 so as not to be saddled with the loser mantle.

/watching his four sons after the Iowa caucus made me a) jealous I'll never have their money or lifestyle and b) glad I've already experienced more cultural diversity and satisfaction from personal relationships than they will likely find in a lifetime.

Aar1012: There is always a draft movement for the floor

I said it was too late for anyone to enter the race, I didn't say it was too late for another candidate to be chosen. It's been so long since it's happened that I can't even remember what the circumstances would have to be. I believe the convention would have to be divided with none of the candidates getting enough delegates, and that's not going to happen because Romney will carry enough states.

2012-01-05 11:52:19 PM
Edward True, who personally supports Ron Paul

The truth is he didn't write those ballot numbers, and had never even read them before.

er, I mean, I'd pick Nikki Haley.

Wow, you mean some non-binding, meaningless podunk vote isn't 100% accurate?!? It'll be the scandal of the century!

So not only is the Iowa Caucus meaningless, it's inaccurate.

Serious question, does Romney pick a moderate VP, further alienating the Tea Party who already him? Or does he try to appease them with a crazy Palin-esque VP choice, and then run the risk of losing moderates?

My guess is that he can afford to lose Tea Partiers, because they will ultimately vote against Obama. He can't afford to lose the moderates because that ensures an Obama victory.
