I think the christian god is supposed to be lighter skinned than the muslim one. that said, muslim fanatics share many similarities with their christian brethren.

I wonder if the evangelicals that support him understand that he means the Catholic Church's interpretation of Biblical Law.

I suspect that the evangelicals just want to get the ball rolling on their version of sharia law and then quibble over the details.

I suppose. But still, you'd think it'd be more of an issue.

Just wait until they have to erect a copy of the Ten Commandments in a courtroom somewhere.

the various cults and factions within the GOP will hold it together until they're in power...THEN they'll start backstabbing one another and looking for a victim to nail to a cross somewhere.

Or decide which version of the Bible the Feds will be using.

Good point.

Weaver95: I think the christian god is supposed to be lighter skinned than the muslim one.

JHVH is pretty dark-skinned, a damn sight darker than the Euro-centric depictions of J to tha C.

Luckily, modern evangelicals are too busy worshipping at the altars of Unrestrained Power and The Almighty Dollar to worry about the color of their god and/or savior failing to jive with their bigotry.

They're wrong. He's not trying to impose a Judeo-Christian sharia law.

He's trying to impose a Christian sharia law.

On behalf of American Jews, I'd like to say "leave us out of this".

There are only two options. Either you support the coming Christian Sharia or

Bill_Wick's_Friend: On behalf of American Jews, I'd like to say "leave us out of this".

Blame the fundies. Jesus was supposed to be "the new covenant", but that "do unto others" and "love thy neighbor" bit doesn't have exemptions for murdering gays and promiscuous women. Thusly why they harken back to Leviticus, and the old Judaic laws, for justification for bigotry and evil in Jesus' name.

Incidentally, it's hard to paint your chosen subgrouping as blameless when they won't seem to stop pouring support and money into an apartheid regime, but that's an argument for another thread.

Oh behalf of some other American Jews, I'd like to point out that many fundamentalist Jews have many of the same beliefs about homosexuals and women as fundamentalist Christians and Muslims. So hiding our heads in the sand isn't really cleaning our house, is it?

Can you imagine the heated debate about which version of the 10 Commandments to use?

Aarontology: I wonder if the evangelicals that support him understand that he means the Catholic Church's interpretation of Biblical Law.

Pretty much no, because he wants to limit women's reproductive rights, end divorce, end abortion, and end non-reproductive sex. What they fail to understand is that it will be a dirty Papist in office, and I seem to recall how well folks thought of putting Kennedy in office for just that...

Of course, Rick isn't a fan of Kennedy. Apparently in order to be a good Catholic in his mind, you have to be a close minded bigot. Which is perhaps why so many folks seem to taking to his message...

Well, if they use the Moses written one, they could pass it off as "historical"

Romney and Santorum should run on a mixed ticket. You could call it Mitt and Shiat.

Theaetetus: I'd like to point out that many fundamentalist Jews have many of the same beliefs about homosexuals and women as fundamentalist Christians and Muslims

They do indeed.

Fortunately, they have very very limited powers of persuasion or political influence outside of Israel. In America? Barely a blip on the political radar, especially when 70-80% of American Jews don't vote for the fundy candidate.

Theaetetus: So hiding our heads in the sand isn't really cleaning our house, is it?

Not hiding my head in the sand at all. When Rick Santorum or Michele Bachmann or Rick Perry says "Judeo-Christian" they mean "Christian" in every way shape and form. They just don't want to sound as bigoted as they are so they use barely-inclusive language to soften their Christian dominion rhetoric.

Well, it's true.
He wants to outlaw birth control and sodomy.
He wants to legislate his religion to impose into your life.

It's pretty much the Christian version of sharia law.
I bet he reads "The Handmaid's Tale" and masturbates to it...

Bill_Wick's_Friend: When Rick Santorum or Michele Bachmann or Rick Perry says "Judeo-Christian" they mean "Christian" in every way shape and form.

They mean "a la carte Paulites who use the Bible as a fig leaf for hatred, greed, and bigotry". Their target audience only claims pretension to Christianity, it damn sure doesn't live it.

He's got the Talibangelical vote, so he actually has a good chance of getting the Republican nomination, and should an oil war erupt with Iran, don't count out a Republican getting in.

I'm not happy unless I get all my secret messages from the Pope, Rick Warren, Luis Cortes and the Sephardic Chief Rabbi. I used to listen to James Dobson, The LDS, and the Ashkenazi chief rabbi, but James Dobson farted and ruined the ambiance.

Freedom Felching, if you will.

WTF is Judeo-Christian, you may as well call it Judeo-Christian-Muslim.

If you cannot say Judeo-Christian-Muslim, then you cannot say Judeo-Christian.

If you're a jew, you're not a christian and you're not a muslim. Vis a vi, etc:

About the only thing they have in common is a link to the Babylonians.

I hate that term. So bullshiatty wishy washy.

Calling him out on web media via an unknown comedian isn't exactly the same as Wolf Blitzer interviewing Keith Ellison on The Situation Room.

Debate question for Mr Santorum. Who is the higher authority the President of the USA or the Pope?

I can't think of an answer that won't bring lulz.

He's not wrong.

Although I'm not sure it helps that the writer has "allah" in his name.

Bill_Wick's_Friend: He's trying to impose a Christian sharia law...On behalf of American Jews, I'd like to say "leave us out of this".

The author is trying to not come across like a Christophobe--so he's turning the whole "Judeo-Christian" myth back on Santorum and his ilk who love to use the term to speak in place of American Jews. Santorum has no connections to any aspect of Rabbinic Judaism. He certainly never speaks of Talmud and wouldn't know Halacha if it bit him in his santorum.

2012-01-05 07:26:55 PM
I am appalled at CNN!

ALL the candidates (with the possible exception of Huntsman, but I doubt it) would impose it if they could get away with it.

"4. No porn! I'm not kidding. Santorum signed "The Marriage Vow" pledge (PDF) authored by the Family Leader organization, under which he swears to oppose pornography. I think many would agree that alone should disqualify him from being president."
