(PhysOrg.com) Cool Oh hey Intel. Got your 50 cores there, I see. Yeah, 50 cores is nice and all, if you don't have to compute in a hurry. Then you might want 100 cores   (physorg.com) divider line 34

Fark it, we're doing 150 blades.

it's a media processor. that's like comparing an 8 core Sandy Bridge-E to a 2048 shader core Radeon HD7970

sure one has a lot more cores, but those cores are more limited in function (but in the case of shader cores on video cards - extremely useful for complex floating point math)

So their drivers will be shiat, rarely updated, and to get it working correctly you will be required to download some kids hacked driver set that makes it actually function and work like it's advertised to?

I put 1000 windup toys in my car to replace the engine. The power from 1000 cars should easily be more power then my lowly corvette engine.

I was wondering what happened to the plug tag.

Good point, but at least it is a well-written, detailed press release.

Ohh, lawdy, that brings back not-so-fond memories of my old Voodoo card.

Even that shiat won't run Crysis above 5 fps.

We use them all the time with XP and have no problems with them (aside from,
once in a while, the drivers deciding there is no card there and needing
reinstallation).

The 65C02 was produced by Western Design Center, not Motorola: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WDC_65C02

Also, am I the only one who thinks "StemCell" is a bad name for a product?

Like my Creative X-Fi Platinum that I've had for years and never had a problem with? like that?

These 100 cores really aren't 'cores', they are part of the graphical engine (there are only 4 A9 cores in this chip). My existing graphics card has dozens of Stream processors that not even Nvidia's marketing department is bold enough to call cores.

So... they made a graphics chip for mobile phones?

Hate to break it to you, but we already have those.

Wrong, Nvidia cards' streaming processors are also called CUDA cores. The GTX 590 has 1024 of them.

Yet, the processor intensive apps I use will still run on only one core leaving the others idle.

I used to be jealous of you rich kids with expensive Apple computers while my family could only afford a TI99er after they went down to $50 after rebate. Years later I came to realize it wasn't unfair others had more, just unfair I had less because my hippie pot smoking parents had more important things to spend their money on. I learned to work hard and get stuff on my own...all because I didn't have a Motorola 65C02. And if that isn't 100% true, then my name isn't...oh wait, never mind.

Were your parents teachers? That was one category of kids who tended to have Apples even if their folks weren't rolling in dough.

But they're vector processors. They munch numbers. Which is good for some things but not sequential computing, like a desktop processor.

So it's an ARM SOC. Whoopty farking do.
