J&J, the biggest maker of vaginal mesh, fell (JNJ) less than 1 percent to $65.48 yesterday in New York.

OMG stock price fell 1%! Oh noes! I'm sure it had to do with the 'vaginal mesh' scandal.

Almost 300,000 synthetic meshes were implanted in U.S. women in 2010 to treat incontinence or shore up pelvic muscles, the agency estimates

Would this make sexy time feel better for the man? If so, then I'm all for it.

It's like the old vaginal sieves but not as hard and inflexible. The mesh is much easier to insert into the vagina to assist in separating out the solids from the liquid goodness.

At first I thought it was some kind of chicken wire type chastity belt device, but after reading the article I guess it is some kind of chicken wire type material attached to the vaginal wall to repair the damage caused from birthing a watermelon. Good to know.

I've always wanted to insert 'Vaginal Mesh' into a cocktail party conversation.but it just never fits right. That being said; 'Vaginal Mesh' would make a great band name....or anime series.

The descriptions of wall collapses I've read by women that have suffered this condition are not for the weak of stomach. The average person might be better of in complete ignorance of this condition; if it springs up the lady will know something is wrong enough to go to the doctor quickly.

My mom was told that there was a 90% chance that she had a defective mesh or bladder sling. She's having issues with it honestly. But the FDA can't let the poor manufactures suffer from their incompetence. What the fark does the FDA actually do when they let these companies do this shiat constantly with medications and devices?

Why is the FDA involved in this? Call me crazy, but a vaginal mesh is neither food nor a drug.

\insert oral sex joke here.

I thought one of the reasons they let it go to market is because the mesh is similar to the mesh they use to repair hernias. Unfortunately, it looks like location, location, location makes all the difference.

Remember, they're spending tax dollars, so we want them to do less, not more. After all, aren't we all better off if we let corporations police themselves?

Chicken wire, or poultry netting, is a mesh of wire commonly used to fence poultry livestock. It is made of thin, flexible galvanized wire, with hexagonal gaps. Available in 1 inch (about 2.5 cm) diameter, 2 inch (about 5 cm) and 1/2 inch (about 1.3 cm), chicken wire is available in various wire gauges usually 19 gauge (about 1 mm wire) to 22 gauge (about 0.7 mm wire). Chicken wire is occasionally used to build spacious yet inexpensive cages for small animals (or to protect plants and property from animals) though the thinness and zinc content of galvanized wire may be inappropriate for animals prone to gnawing and will not keep out predators.

In construction, chicken wire is used as a matrix to hold cement or plaster, in a process known as stuccoing. Concrete reinforced with chicken wire yields ferrocement, a versatile construction material. It can also be used to make the armature for a papier-mâché sculpture, when relatively high strength is needed.

Mrs. NoGods had one put in after baby #3. It was part of her hysterectomy procedure. Right before surgery the Dr. turned to me and said, "You are really going to like this." Creepy, but he was right. There were some minor complications which have been corrected. We are both satisfied with the results.

FYI, vaginal mesh is made from human cadaver skin. Become an organ donor and you could end up in some strange vagina.

You, sir, must have an abnormally-long tongue if you can taste the area where this would be inserted. I salute you, Mr. Simmons.

TFA states that the mesh was not put through adequate tests. People clamor about getting medical supplies/drugs on a "fast track" without proper tests and scrutiny by the FDA and then scream when it is ineffective or unsafe. You cannot have it both ways.

Not trolling, just ranting

THIS. It's easy to blame 'big gub'mint', but there are times when things just don't work out as expected. There are many, many products that are overseen / regulated by the FDA , and it should be expected that a few products get through testing and validation that turn out to have unforeseen issues at a later time. As noted above, testing requires time, and time is something that a lot of people don't want to give when it comes to medical products and services. If a product is 99% likely to be just fine, there are still going to be 1% of the products that turn out to be "bad" (unintended consequences, unexplained side effects, etc.). Again, the FDA oversees a lot of products, so this isn't terribly surprising. I do think there's a lot of insider, big-money-talks going on, but I also think there are a lot of very competent experts whose opinions and expertise are used for FDA decisions.
