(Some Guy) Interesting Fresh off his last-place finish in Iowa, Jon Huntsman reminds everyone he's still in the race, still thinks he's relevant. Which, given past history, means he'll be the new GOP frontrunner by Sunday   (portsmouth-nh.patch.com) divider line 44

Last place finish in Iowa, huh.

Sure, last place. But he didn't participate in the caucuses.

The GOP electorate is far too retarded to vote for such a reasonable, thinking adult.

Pretty much this. Toss in the fact that he's Mormon and you have a total no-go.

It's sad, too. Huntsman is about the only Republican I could see myself even consider voting for... but even he's spouted a couple of the nonsensical talking points over the last few weeks, presumably in an attempt to appear to have sufficient levels of crazy,

Yeah, he's jumped on a couple of whacky threads, but at least I look at him and see a human who thinks. It's just not a sensation I get from the other ones.

He's not very reasonable or thinking. He only looks that way compared to the other GOp candidates.

Huntsman can make some of his crazy ideas sound rational it is a skill other GOP hopefuls haven't learned and apparently voters don't appreciate.

Buddy Roemer came in last place. Huntsman also got more votes than Herman Cain!

He will make a campaign stop in Portsmouth this morning.
that's the gist of tfa.

how did this.... ?
what the...?

well, i guess we can use this opportunity to do some bashing and smearing.

No, the reason we don't support him is because he doesn't sufficiently piss off libs. It isn't so much finding someone we can support as someone we can rub in lib faces once he wins. Why else do you think we loved Bush so much?

Poor bastard's not even getting a chance to be Not Mitt Romney for a week.

2012-01-05 10:46:09 AM
I can't understand his mentality. Clearly, he's saner than any of the other candidates, and is the most electable, and yet, he's been clumping along with a lead foot the whole time.

Seriously WTF? Why even run for President if you can't even reach out to your electorate?

He lives the same "Daddy handed me everything on a silver platter" as G.W. Bush. Bachmann, Santorum, and Cain have warped the baseline for normal in this election.

Like I do with all the GOP candidates, I disagree with Huntsman on more than one issue. But I'm not scared to death of him becoming President as much as those other whackjobs.

Maybe he doesn't take orders as well as Dubby, and that's why the neocon star chamber isn't pushing for him...

I sure as hell wouldn't vote for him, but it would be a good thing to have someone as actual opposition against Obama to criticize his civil liberties stances.

But then again, my guess is Huntsman would have supported NDAA and possibly SOPA...

When are we going to stop pretending someone has a chance of beating Romney?

Obama included, if the economy continues to suck sack.

Obama on fixing the economy: " If I don't have this done in three years, then there's gonna be a one term proposition." Feb 2, 2009

Which, given past history, means he'll be the new GOP frontrunner by Sunday

given what I've seen in the last DAY from Rick "no-sex ever" Santorum and RON "hookers & blow" PAUL, it could happen.

Cletus C.: if the economy continues to suck sack.

You mean the economy that is recovering and has been for a while?

The most recent recession began in December of 2007, 13 months before Obama took office. That's according to the National Bureau of Economic Research, the nonprofit agency that tracks business cycles.

By the fourth quarter of 2008, when Bush was still in office (Obama wasn't sworn in until January of 2009), shortly after the banking crisis that resulted in the widely unpopular Bush-led federal bailouts, the economy contracted by 8.9%, according to the Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis.

The bureau found the recession officially ended in June of 2009, five months after Obama took office. The economy has grown in every quarter since then, according to the Commerce Department.

Having him as the GOP front-runner would be a vast improvement and give hope to liberals that half the country isn't batshiat insane.

SuperSeriousMan: The bureau found the recession officially ended in June of 2009, five months after Obama took office. The economy has grown in every quarter since then, according to the Commerce Department.

Yeah, but the problem is that a large percent of people feel like they haven't shared in the growth, and I don't think they're wrong to feel that way. And the reasons for that feeling go WAY deeper than one presidency. I think those reasons are due to systematic problems with our economy where a small number of people get a disproportionate share of the wealth. The system as a whole is doing better, but only a few people benefit. So, right or wrong, a lot of people feel the economy is not improving.

Duke Phillips' Singing Bears: a large percent of people feel like they haven't shared in the growth

Because FOX News, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, et al keep talking about the "horrible economy" and act as though we are still in a recession. It's almost as if they had a vested interest in making Obama look bad.

That may be a part of it. But I still feel like the bigger problem is shrinking middle class incomes and rapidly rising college, healthcare, food and fuel costs, coupled with disproportionate distribution of wealth to the already wealthy.

Carth: economic growth didn't exceed inflation in 2011?

If you're going to use economic numbers to support your point, try a) providing actual numbers (4Q GDP numbers haven't been released yet) and b) use numbers that actually relate to each other.

Oh, and while you're at it, look at how lowering taxes while starting two wars is what got us into this entire mess. Seems like not a single, solitary Republican wants to admit fault for royally farking up the economy and then expecting Obama to wave a magic wand and make everything all better (while at the same time working as hard as they can to prevent him from doing anything at all).

The recession began a while before that, but the Administration refused to admit it until December of '08.

You don't understand how inflation and growth of GDP relate or are you just trolling? Inflation for 2011 will likely come in right around 3% (new window) while growth in GDP will end up around 1.5% (new window). Unless we see 8% growth in 4Q inflation will exceed growth again.

You don't have to agree with republicans do think Obama isn't doing a great job. He could try standing up for what he wants instead of being so damn conciliatory all the time.

Subby's not joking. Huntsman will get the next media bump and show well in New Hampshire as a result. Not that it matters. This flavor-of-the-week stuff is all just bored alternatives to the inevitable.
