Never heard of that video. But then, I am usually behind the time when it comes to memes.

Sometimes the more vulgar expressions can give just as good an insight into a culture or society as great works of literature and art. There's a reason why historians spend as much time studying the pornographic paintings and frescoes in old Roman brothels as they do reading the works of Pliny or Tacitus.

In a way they are social commentary. Commentary of five year olds, but valid nonetheless.

Well, there's a reason, but I'm not sure you quite get what it is...

4chan memes were good enough for Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson. I don't know why people are so uppity nowadays.

There's an American culture? Does it produce cheese?

Remember when America had a middle class
And an upper class, that was way before the exodus
That was the America that we thought was number one,
Thought would overcome, thought would never die
That was just our pride and faith, two shiatty deadly sins
I know faith isn't one of 'em but it should have been
Cuz when things were crumbling, we had no camaraderie
Just a faith someone would save us from despondence

We called it America

Number one America was a slogan used to keep morale up
When we knew we were already cooked
Then the richer western states, succeeded in secession
And the eastern ones followed right behind
Mexi-Can-America was the perfect name that
Epitomized the order of significance, authority and affluence
We had turned it all around
Went from number one straight to number two

My mom tells me that when she took my older brother to visit my grandparents in NY (1980 or so), the neighborhood kids (mostly black) LOVED to pet my brother's head - "his hair's so SMOOTH!!".

A challenger appears: I couldn't read past the author crying about being multi-racial.

Being a fish out of water is a better descriptor, but yeah. Try being the tallest kid (who sucks at basketball) in high school. Awkward is awkward, and you don't get a multiball just because it's racial.

Well, they are.

4chan is probably more of a social commentary site than any other page on the web. When we're all gone and some aliens find our ruins and are able to decode HTML, their anthropologists will find a treasure trove of info just from 4chan alone.

Beware of Dog sign in Pompeii. Yes, common everyday media can give a much better idea of the culture of an ancient civilization. Imagine if the unspeakable happened and someday they unearthed a Dali painting. What would they conjecture from the prevalent culture from such a painting?

Rev. Skarekroe: I've never touched a black girl's hair.

No, it doesn't. But black women's hair tends to be pretty stiff and curly (e.g. 'nappy'). She puts different creams, ointments and other obscure semi-solids in it to make it softer, straighter and less itchy.

/had to learn a lot about black hair after marrying a (wonderful) black woman

I just remembered an old Reader's Digest article where, some apocalypse was postulated, followed by a long period of reclamation of civilization. At some point 1000 years in the future, they unearth a motel. Having quite different facilities at that time, they mistake a unit bathroom for a small shrine, wherein homage is paid to a god called "San-Uh Tized for-Your-Protecshun". Quite loliferous, the article was.

Does it really feel like Cheetos?

Not unless it's in dreadlocks. Dreads always feel like Cheetos, regardless of race or gender. Cheetos that ooze grease instead of orange dust, and maggots/lice eggs as well if they're authentic.

Real black girl's hair feels like a soft sponge, if she washes it regularly. More like a Brillo pad if she doesn't. Weaves, even the really expensive ones, feel like acryllic yarn, too dry and at the same time too slippery to be real. "Relaxed" hair feels like dried flowers, and falls apart just as easily.

/yes I know it wasn't a real question
/I answered it anyway, because I can

Try Michael Moorcock's "Dancers At The End Of Times" series.... people of the far, far future get everything wrong.
