No it doesn't

I've heard of people waxing their mustaches, but this guy looks like he's actually wearing a novelty wax mustache.

www.washingtonpost.com

Also, when the thesis of your column is "I don't know," maybe you don't have to write it.

so obama might win, or he might lose.

"Just which narrative triumphs may well determine the election."

I'm becoming partial to "Get a load of this guy." as the defining narrative of 2012.

colon_pow: so obama might win, or he might lose.

That's true. But he could also lose, or he might win.

A Dark Evil Omen: And he got paid to write this, did he?

He did (not) get paid, yes.

Romney is the best candidate against Obama (given his track record). Is he the lesser of two evils though?

Yes. No? Maybe. I dunno. Do these pants make my mustache look big?

"President Obama's reelection is vulnerable to the weak economy and high joblessness. Here's what might happen: The economy gradually improves, and although unemployment stays high (exceeding 8 percent)"

This means voters should turn around and vote for the party that flushed all the jobs down the drain in the first place?

it's funny how all the talk radio listeners assume everybody else has the same opinion of Fartbama that they do

This looks like the kind of opinion piece that was common in the 70's and 80's. Columnists, facing a deadline and a lack of actual news to report, would write pointless speculation to just to occupy their space in the paper until something better came along in a lame attempt to keep readers' attention. Since readers had few sources of news outside of the daily paper, they would dutifully read the column on the off chance that it actually contained some news.

The problem is, now we have the internet. Instead of reading this kind of shiat, we can go look for actual news. Don't give this guy the page clicks to support his lazy garbage.

Not so much "should," as "will, if historical precedent is to be believed." The people who look into the actual reasons for things tend not to be swing voters, so the ones who actually decide elections are the ones who think "the president is doing a good job because things are better for me and the people I know personally."

Normally one uses the slash mark to make that kind of statement.
"Why Obama will / won't win in 2012"

Well maybe. Let's not jump to conclusions.

Note how this analysis utterly ignores the opposition - that's essential if you want to make this look like a horse race.

But factor in that the Republicans ran the economy in to a ditch on a platform of deregulation and tax cuts, and now that the concern is unemployment and the deficit, they are preaching the religion of tax cuts and deregulation. Oh, and trickle down. Fool me once, etc.

Then add in that the opposing candidate will either be a flip-flopper who designed the only program of Obama's that really fires up the Republican base, or they'll get some social neanderthal who will be running for ayatollah.

Either way, the opposition candidate will be forced to swear absolute allegiance to a series of positions that are offensive to major numbers of independent and swing state voters - no abortion even when a 12 year old is raped by her father; gays are evil/sick/making a lousy lifestyle choice; fear the Muslims/immigrants/gay Muslim immigrants; science is all just a theory, and folklore should have equal weight in policy and education.

When you factor in who and what Obama is up against, you realize the only thing up for speculation is what Michelle will wear to hubby's second inauguration.

Who is this "one" you speak of? I, personally, use the comma. As in "Obama will, won't win..."
