For those of you on the iPhone thread the other day who think that carrying an iPhone makes you a hipster, 0:47 shows a couple of real hipsters.

So totally not fake at all.

Maybe they should try something like that for cars?

When they bent over they weren't sure what it was. The jump was them realizing it's a Microsoft product.

Hmm. A Microsoft Office box lying COMPLETELY INCONSPICUOUSLY in the middle of the sidewalk or stairs, looking to all as if it had been purposely placed there and not askew as if someone had dropped it. Nothing untoward happening here, I will just go grab it...

This is pretty blatantly and anti-piracy office ad.

I didn't think that at all. What I thought while watching was that there was no audio captured with the video or the audio was so terrible that they dubbed in the audio of the alarm and probably didn't time it correctly.

I was also thinking that these people have obviously never heard of the Unabomber. The last thing I'm going to go doing is walk up and pick up random conspicuously placed boxes that are obviously placed out in the open just waiting for the random person to pick up.

Sounds like you never played Ultima Online. "A treasure chest laying in the middle of town? That's clearly meant for me and totally not trapped."

I always wonder why so many people just walk away from those gags. Doesn't anyone hold it up and loudly announce to whatever camera is obviously filming "This is MS Office. Nobody wants it, you're just littering" and then throw it away. At the very least, someone has to eventually go overboard and stomp on it for making them look silly, right?

Both LibreOffice and OpenOffice are excellent alternatives. However, LibreOffice currently has a better feature set and open source license.

That alarm should be attached to all copies of MS Office to prevent people from using it.

This. LibreOffice and OpenOffice are cute, but their feature sets simply don't compare with that of Office. They're free - that's their only real adoption point (can't call it a "selling point", really, without feeling weird about it.)

Yep. This is what I say to my family. "This is LibreOffice. It sucks, but it's free. If you ever feel like spending $120/copy on Office, go for it."

/The Word is Ok. The Excel is Ok for basic stuff. The Powerpoint works. Everything else sucks.
//But I reinstall my OS ~3 times per year on all my computers, so that gets expensive fast.

This ^ so much. I probably fire up open office 3-4 times a year. If I saw a MS software box like that on the street, I'd probably give it my best Beckham impersonation, wonder how that would go over?

I'm curious. Has anyone here, anyone at all, EVER seen one of these "prank" videos that was actually funny? It doesn't even have to be funny every time, since repeating the same prank a trillion times is doomed to be retarded. Anyone seen one that was funny even the first time?

3... to 4.... times... a year.

Yeah okay, if you do something that infrequently, you're not allowed to judge it. Unless it's "producing quarterly statements" then I guess that's okay.

/OpenOffice sucks
//Microsoft doesn't have a lot of home-runs but MS Office is indisputably one of them.

You should look into drive imaging software.

Emposter: Has anyone here, anyone at all, EVER seen one of these "prank" videos that was actually funny?

Years ago (late '80s probably) there was a clip show of weird TV shows from around the world. I think it was on HBO and hosted by George Plimpton. One of the hidden camera gags had a man with a briefcase on the street who would strike up conversations with passersby. Then he'd drop the briefcase and run like hell. What made it even more bizarre was that it came from a TV show in the Middle East.

Blue pants and the two guys had very fake reactions. The guy on the stairs and the last girl seemed the most genuine.

The sound took longer to get to the camera. Light is faster.
They heard the alarm before the camera did, so they jumped before the sound recorded.
