I'm on my third iphone (4S) and haven't jailbroken any of them. I personally don't see the need. What's the best jailbreak feature?

If I wanted to customize a phone that much, I would've bought an Android.

iOS = Windows of phones
android = OSX of phones

My favorite feature on my android phone (LG G2x) is how the music stutters if I listen to music and surf the web at the same time. Or how the keyboard lags if I try to type while the phone is still loading. There's also the occasional interface lag that doing anything on the phone is a pain in the ass. If there is a way to fix this, other than to god damn turn off background programs, please let me know.

Switched from iphone 3g to android. Wishes everyday my everyday phone is an iPhone. Why? It just works. No rooting, no compromise when rooting.

Stifled in the confines of iOS? Bro, it's a phone. It does what a smart phone needs to do. Most people don't need to root or jailbreak their phone, they just need something to check football scores and watch porn at work. iOS fill that need nicely and it's just a better product.

/Also I'm still waiting for my honeycomb Ice Cream Sandwich update. But what's that LG? Too busy churning out new phones to provide adequate support? Uh Huh? Already have my money. I see... Right. Have to wait a few more months after waiting for almost an year? Okay. Sounds good. I'm never buying another superior android phone again.

No subby....but no. Not even remotely.

The ipad is merely a solution in search of a problem. It has filled the imaginary void between laptop and smartphone.

Many times I have been sitting around thinking to myself, I really wish I had device that had all the same functionality as my phone....just bigger....but not too big...I don't want to actually have to use my laptop......oh, and it needs to be more expensive than both the phone and laptop combined.

Seriously, I really don't care how people spend their money. If an ipad makes you happy...great, enjoy it. I have my hobbies and my toys too. I just don't go around pretending I'm better than everyone becuase I own them.

The retina display on an iphone is so crystal, I don't know why you'd want to lug around a book sized video hassle. They're neat and useless. ipod touch, iphone, those things you can use.

For god sake don't think I'm endorsing Apple. I would ion cannon them off the planet if I could. Take their farking hardware away and give it to a non psychotic corporation.

In the off chance you're not a troll and just haven't been paying attention in the last year or so,

Here is a survey regarding iPads in the business world (new window)

Good's survey showed that the adoption of iPads in the workplace is increasingly driven by the businesses themselves, not just by individual users, as they see iPads bringing in ROI for new and existing business workflows, such as field-force use and lightweight laptop replacement.

Airlines are eager to adopt them (new window)

Airlines are in favor of it because they claim it'll allow cockpits to toss giant collections of heavy flight charts and manuals, thus saving fuel.

Commercial and hobbyist boaters that need chartplotters can us an iPad +$50 software (new window) to replace dedicated appliances (new window) that often cost $1500

Are you a budding musician? Here is an app for $20 (new window) that replaces this dedicated appliance for $500 among many many others.(new window)

You're right. No one would ever need a computing device that can run unplugged all day and handle a toddler. I should have picked up a cheaper laptop with a weak screen and hinges and a battery that won't last the car ride to anywhere much less provide entertainment once we arrived.

So I've got an iPod touch 4g. I primarily use it as a jukebox for my truck. I haven't added music to it in a year or so due to not wanting to deal with itunes. I was looking into jailbreaking the thing with hopes that there is an alternative to itunes.

I'm not afraid to jailbreak, but if there aren't any options then I don't see the point. I'm no stranger to doing such things, as I've rooted and been using custom roms on my android for a long time.

Anyone want to throw a farker a bone?

You shouldn't need to jailbreak. if you're running it on Windows, here's a free alternative that works with your iPod (new window)

Without jailbreaking, you can use Winamp to upload to your iPod.

No, seriously, Winamp is still around.

When I see these surveys that use "how great iPads are for business or storage", I think "tablet" instead.

And yes, you can say "tablet", but at the moment the iPad is the only tablet being sold worth a damn. Amazon Kindle Fire not withstanding.

That argument might hold water, if not for all the other non-Apple tablets being sold in pretty good numbers.
If you ever get out of your moms basement, you'll find having a tablet is convenient when traveling.

Phiremod FTW. Used to run CM7 off the card, but after never pulling it out to run the stock OS for months, I installed it right onto the NC. Runs a helluva lot faster now, and the battery can last for a few days with 3-4 hours of use a day easily.

SBSettings is the reason I jailbreak. It adds one-swipe access to system settings that are normally buried 3 or 4 screens deep in the "Settings" app, plus it's now integrated into the notification pulldown, even better!

Link (new window)

I just discovered that the ability to turn off 3G (a vital battery-saving tactic) has been removed from the iPhone 4S settings app. I can't wait to get that feature back with SBSettings.

Lemme see... a device that can do what I want, when I want, or a device that someone else owns, and if they had their way, I'd be in jail for doing what I want with it...

Tough choice.

Or have you forgotten that Apple has wanted (and no doubt still does) people who jail break to suffer legal consequences for at least the last 3 years? If you think for a second that they've given up on their fight or aren't looking for someone who needs their pockets lined with gold in order to make it happen, you're a fool. Buy it if you want, but I don't get why someone would spend hundreds, if not thousands of dollars (monthly payments and such) for the "privilege" of possessing something that, if treated like you own it, could be bricked, shut down, or flat out have you in court.

Awesome how Apple has turned into the giant talking head in their 1984 commercial...

Not at all. My sister has one, friends and other relatives have them, my boss has one...How people choose to spend their money is up to them. If you want one, great. I personally don't have a use for one...and I certainly have no intention of spending $500-900 for something I don't even remotely need. particularly when it's going to be obsolete in 18 months.

When the iPad was first announced, I bashed it as useless and thought it would only sell to Apple fanboys.

Then my work gave me one as a "prize".

Now, I use it for EVERYTHING. Constantly use it, every day. I barely touch my laptop any more. It's replaced several things I used to use around the house as well. I play games, watch TV, surf the internet, do my finances, send/receive e-mail, create presentations, shop, read books, organize my time/calendar, video-conference with family and friends, dictate notes, etc. etc.

Anyone that say it's useless has never tried to use one. That thing can do almost anything.

I had the exact same reaction. When it was announced, I called it the iPhone Large Edition, said it was useless, etc etc. After using them at work, though, I started to see why they were selling out of them so quickly. Network surveys, video, music, my library in my bag, annotating textbooks, and the occasional game make it get a lot of use for me.

My favorite, though? I bought a $2 plate hanger, stuck it on a kitchen wall, and either have recipes up or have netflix going while I cook.
