How the hell did West Virginia lose to Syracuse and Louisville? They were also blown out by LSU but that's nothing to be embarrassed about.

2012-01-05 04:19:46 AM
They could have dropped 80 or more on them if they didn't take their foot off of the gas in the beginning of the second half.

WTF happened? I know our defense can be sieve like, but holy hell that's embarrassing! Live in London and work a normal job so couldn't stay up to watch ... and right now I'm glad I couldn't.

Clemson sucks...have all season long...pretty simple really.

34-17, 29-7, 34-13 - suck on it biatch!

Nah, that couldn't be it. They're out stealing all the morning newspapers so no one finds out.

Excellent headline subby, that is hilarious, I had to stop watching at the end of the third quarter or work today would be murder. It was all just really excellent plays and awareness. Seeing holes or situations and exploiting them. A really good night to be a Mountianeer.

9beers: How the hell did West Virginia lose to Syracuse and Louisville?

Those were games we didn't show up to, you could see it in the attitude. They underestimated the teams and got it stuffed in their face for doing so. I hope they learn from that.

We don't read in SC. It was our condition for surrendering our slaves, remember?

Nice headline Subby. It looked to me like Clemson ran out of gas; as if they didn't maintain their conditioning during the Holidays. After the 1st quarter the Clemson players were all dragging ass. Fun game to watch.

It's almost as if Big East and ACC football can't answer the question of, "which of us sucks worse," fast enough.

Well, WVU didn't have a SEC team to kick the shiat out of this year, so they had to make do.

2012-01-05 08:07:02 AM
Oddly enough the game was competitive until the goal line fumble-99 TD return. After that, Clemson just collapsed in epic fashion. Clemson was a yard away from taking the lead midway through the second quarter, then the Jenga tower collapsed...badly...

The ACC went 2-6 in their bowl games. There's not a lot you can constructively say about that.

2012-01-05 08:23:11 AM

GetaLife: WTF happened? I know our defense can be sieve like, but holy hell that's embarrassing!

In the second quarter, Clemson was about to run it in for a TD to go up 24-21. Andre Ellington apparently fumbled right at the goal line, and a WVU player took it back for a score. I say "apparently," because the review showed a pile of people mashed together, and you really couldn't tell if (1) he was down before the fumble or (2) he crossed the goal line before he fumbled. At any rate, the call stood, the momentum completely shifted, and Clemson added a couple more turnovers in the quarter for good measure. Implosion city -- which is where Clemson liked to be in its losses this year.

Tough loss, but they'll get over it. I suspect the defensive coordinator is going to get the boot, though. Someone has to take a fall after giving up 70.

It's cute that you've been following football for three years now. Let me give you some other numbers:

65-40-4. Come back after 25 more wins in a row (you know, when the series will finally be even) and I'll be impressed.

I am a WVU fan, and I have the singular pleasure of sitting next to a Clemson fan in the office. The day started with my condolence offering (a bottle of Orange Crush), and looks to be a bright day all around.

Congrats on the Santorum-esque win. Tavon Austin is a freaking beast, and your QB is solid. That bowl game reminded me of the UGA/WVU Sugar Bowl when Pat White had his coming out party.

Normally you can say "at least it's basketball season" but this year there's some embarrassingly bad ACC teams, and only 2, maybe 3 good ones.

Clemson always craps the bed on the biggest stage possible, every single year.

2012-01-05 10:19:15 AM
Goddamn it, Vippy Sue, you couldn't pull it off against Clemson at least once? I mean, damn! Then maybe Va Tech could've beat WVU, Clemson beat Auburn- again- FSU beat Notre Dame, UVA beat Utah, Georgia Tech beat Cowbell U, Wake Forest beat Air Force, and UNC still get stomped all over, but at least we'd have looked presentable in bowl games.

Thanks for that. Post mortems were still being written this morning before I left for work, and I haven't had the time (or stomach) to watch any video.

I am pretty psyched for a road trip to Morgantown. I don't care what anyone says, I think their fans look like a lot of fun. Certainly more enjoyable than College Station.

one more reason that the sec should have taken west virginia rather than those farking idoits from mizzou. mizzou doesn't belong. west virginia does. and they looked fast last night.

Thanks a lot Clemson for making UofM's sugar bowl win look that much less impressive. Not that it was before, but now our opponent was beaten twice this year by a team that gave up 70 to WV.

Kurmudgeon: Well, WVU didn't have a SEC team to kick the shiat out of this year, so they had to make do.

Yeah, because they totally destroyed LSU earlier this year.

I dunno about you guys, but I am glad I am not in Morgantown this morning -- too much couch burning.

WVU better enjoy this win because it may be the last bowl game they go to in a long time. Just because they beat Clemson like this doesn't excuse the fact that they lost to Syracuse, Louisville, and Rutgers. There is no way they make it to a bowl with three conference losses in the Big 12.

I have watched many games where you can point to one play that changed the game, but I have never seen such an epic collapse after a play like that one. Up to that point it looked like it was going to be a high scoring shootout between two teams with a good offense and no defense. After that play, it immediately turned into a high scoring blowout. That wasn't a 14 point turnaround. It was more like a 50 point turnaround.

The only thing I've ever seen that's either come close was the 2008 MAC Championship. Ball State had gone 12-0 and was ranked No. 12 in the country, playing 7-5 Buffalo team. Ball State was leading when MiQuale Lewis ran into the endzone. After crossing the plane he lost control of the ball at it was ruled a fumble recovered by Buffalo. The play was reviewed but not overturned. Ball State ended up losing the game by twenty points, then got shellacked against Tulsa in their bowl game.

The good thing about this one, as a Clemson fan, was that I could go ahead and get over the loss long before the game was even over. You take your silver linings where you can find them.
Still, Clemson should still be pretty good next year if they can figure out this whole "defense" thing.

/Wasn't really shocked that they gave up 50+. I saw the Maryland, NC State, GT, and SC games, after all.
//Was a little surprised they didn't score 40+
///Thinks the 99 yard return took it out of the offense, which led to the defense being on the field more, which led to more WVU scores, which took it out of the offense (seeing the bigger hole), which [repeat until you hit 70]
