Now that they've cast Benedict Cumberbatch (new window) as the villain, this is shaping up to be a promising sequel.

Maybe it's a Next Gen Re-Boot and he's going to be Geordi.

Wait, that's not funny, that might be awesome.

Oh hmm...didn't read about that. This is very promising. Especially if he plays the villain like he plays Sherlock. Maybe not as scattered but hopefully as intelligent and quick witted. I do not want another villain to be just a one dimensional character who we have to root against because the story tells us to. I'm not a big fan of having one villain either. Hopefully he represents a larger force and that the plot does not have him being on the verge of destroying Earth/The galaxy/Universe.

My guess. Section 31. While the Enterprise is on a first contact mission to a new planet, the Klingons somehow get involved. Kirk and the crew try to solve the issue while Section 31 is secretly trying to sabotage the mission to assert that the Federation is not going to mess around. Results in the beginning of the war with the Klingons and the rest of the movie shows Kirk holding off an attack against the newly discovered planet while also dealing with Section 31.

Did. Not. Know. This. Having just caught the last Sherlock - this should be fun to see.

Nah he'll just be a random black captain that leads his ship to its doom (seemed to be a theme in TNG).

Awesome news. What isn't quite as awesome, however,is Clarke's possible ascension to the Uwe Boll throne,if I read between the lines correctly.

I looked at the headline and my first thought was "That's not what the rest of the internet's been talking about for the last couple of hrs."

Old news is old, Fark. ;)

I'm pretty excited about Cumberbatch playing the villain. Though, between that and Martin Freeman playing Bilbo, they may end up far too famous and far too busy for more Sherlock, which would be quite sad.

So, he'll pretty much be wearing a red shirt, cast aside within five minutes, and mocked incessantly throughout the rest of the movie as everyone expects him to die, yet he just doesn't.

That's not from Star Trek, that's from Battlestar Gallactica. Points for it being robotic though.

Just so long as they don't have him end up in an alternate universe, where he meets Ricky, the gay alternate universe version of himself, who then gets killed off by the Borg, so he decides to stay in that alternate universe and fight the Borg with the now-dead alt-universe version's boyfriend.

Whatever. As long as they keep Nolan as the director again everything will work out fine.

Section 31 is the Lupus of STAR TREK.

As in: "ITS NEVER SECTION 31".

Not to be overly negative, but only a true Trek fan would want to use Section
31 in anything. As cool as it is, it is WAY too inside for the kind of casual fans
they seem to be aiming for with the latest iteration.
