FTFA:

"Imagine if a liberal tried to use Toby Keith's 'Courtesy Of The Red, White, And Blue.' Keith and his fans would rightly be upset. But that never happens since liberals don't like images of the flag."

This sounds like a totally rational article. I love you, Fox.

I'm sure Ted Nugent has something they could use

/Stranglehold would seem appropriate

I squeezed-off a rather tuneful fart this morning. I had captured it on tape, I would have gladly donated it to the cause.

it's too bad, because footwear-to-ass rape makes for great political imagery.

Didn't the Democrats use that song at the 2008 convention or am I thinking of another Toby Keith song?

It's not a secret conspiracy if it's neither a secret nor a conspiracy.

Considering Toby Keith endorsed Obama in 2008, I don't think he would have been too upset about it.

This is pretty easy to pin down. As a general rule, musicians tend to be in favor of all the things Republicans must claim to be against in order to pander enough to their base to be electable. Primarily, these things are sex, drugs, and rock n' roll. Or, in more Republican campaign-friendly terms, "inappropriate relationships," "illegal controlled substances," and "depraved, artless, youth-corrupting noise."

So, when someone like, say, Rick "Sex Is For Heterosexual Procreation Only" Santorum, Newt "Federal War on Drugs" Gingrich, or Michele "The Roots are Sexist" Bachmann co-opts one of their songs? It's not too much of a leap to figure out why your average musician might take issue with an implied endorsement.

I don't see why they just don't go to the clearing house places and license the music in a way that the artists can't stop.

2012-01-04 01:57:36 PM
Republicans are so stupid. They want to use these songs with no sense of irony.

It's like Maggy Thatcher using "London Calling".

I'm waiting for Rick Perry to use "Bullet" by the Misfits for his campaign song.

2012-01-04 01:58:24 PM
Mostly it is because when GOP candidates use songs, they don't even pay attention to the lyrics which contradict what they are trying to say.

/"Born in the USA"

So, the concept of property rights are a total mystery to Republicans when it involves other people's property?

Because you don't understand intellectual property rights management, synch licensing, master-use licensing, broad rights, grand rights or blanket venue licenses. That's why you don't see.

Just like all their rules. I have found a common thread with Republicans is their lack of ability to empathize with others and to independently self elevate themselves. When they get government hand outs it's because they "deserve it" but others are all "leaches on the system" etc.,

king_nacho: I don't see why they just don't go to the clearing house places and license the music in a way that the artists can't stop.

They usually don't even bother to license it. And when they do actually go above the artists' heads to do it legally, any good it may have done is usually cancelled out when the artist makes a statement against the use.

Get music from your local Evangelical choir, douchebags. Why would you want music from elitist liberals anyway?

SOPA is going before congress in a few weeks, and GOP candidates are at this moment expressing butthurt about songwriters and artists not being happy with politicians using their songs on a whim and without rights or permissions to campaign on? I'm sure there's a word for that feel, I just haven't found it yet.

No, liberals don't like seeing flag code abused the way conservatives do it, like walking on it in the form of a rug or cutting it, eating it and shiatting it out in the form of a cake, or wearing it as a fashion statement, or signing it at events. You know, disrespect to our national symbol.

I figure that the artists hate the GOP because it's mostly only the GOP stealing from them.

2012-01-04 02:12:19 PM
The liberal agenda is heck-bent on keeping all music from the Republicans. It's foolish of them, as the backlash will cause all music to be outlawed.

Democrats are why we can't have nice things, people.

Gee, imagine that.

So last year I'm sitting at the bar at a Sheraton in DC and this 60ish guy next to me starts talking about how he's written this awesome Tea Party protest country song and he sent it to Atlanta's country pop station (the one that plays Taylor Swift) and they won't play it because of libbo-libtard politics - not because their core demo isn't interested in shiatty protest songs from geezers.

People really are this deranged.

Seriously, how dumb do you have to be to watch/read Fox News, even if you are a conservative?

I won't be happy until Obama and Biden start using 'Clubbed to Death' by Rob D as entrance music and go everywhere in tandem dressed as agents.
