You'd be hard pressed to find another politician that could get 25,000 people to watch a webcast

I love the overconfidence on display here...

Especially since the GOP field resembles a remedial class at a clown college.

well considering that he's a fraud that has only continued the status quo of favoring wall street (see his whole treasury dept) while capitulating to any and all gop demands to continue massive gifts to the stealing class at the expense of the 99% i'm not shocked that usual democratic caucus attendees couldn't be bother to pretend to support obama.

/unfortunately, he's still much better than the jokes on the other side
//assuming 2012 is romeny vs obama, it's open support vs passive support of corporate domination

2012-01-04 12:09:07 PM
amusing? really? it's an uncontested caucus.

The best thing that came out of Iowa is that millions of people are googling Santorum.

More than 25,000 Iowans caucused tonight for @BarackObama, even though he had no competitor #iacaucus

- Ben LaBolt (@BenLaBolt) January 4, 2012

.@BarackObama's campaign recruited more than 7,500 new volunteers in IA tonight #iacaucus

Kazan: uncontested democratic primary is not attended? you don't say?

Pfft! North Korea has like a 100% turnout rate. You'd think Obama would be able to emulate his hero Kim Jong-il and force Iowan Democrats to the caucus under threat of making them toil endlessly on farms.

25,000 people spent a few hours on a non binding vote for someone running unopposed and wasn't even there.

In contrast, Mitt Romney received 30,000 votes after spending several million dollars and many weeks in the state.

But yeah, Obama's worried. Uh huh.

Oh course, if Rmoney had been running unopposed he would have gotten over 100,000 votes, but that's ok, math is hard.

Not sure if trolling. Last time the GOP had a caucus without opposition, 2004, there was an approximately equal number of attendees.

Or, no one would have bothered leaving their houses on a Tuesday evening when the race wasn't important.

In 2008, 239,000 people turned out for the Democratic Caucus. Link

Also, here's the most illustrative demographic from the Iowa caucus:
Age 17-29: 15%
Age 30-44: 16%
Age 45-64: 42%
Age 65+: 26%

In the 2008 Presidential election, voters age 18-44 made up 47% of the electorate (mouse over bars), and Obama crushed McCain with young voters. In addition to the age gap, there aren't exactly a ton of black people in Iowa, and Obama typically does better in big cities than rural areas.

An unopposed Obama got nearly the same amount of interest as Romney (etc.) in the field of "people who show up for Iowa caucuses", which is very distorted from "people who vote in the general".

First, see the 2008 Democratic caucus turnout above. When there was an actual race going on, they pulled almost twice as many people as the Republicans did this year.

Second, do you really think that even a majority of the RON PAUL voters would just jump to Romney? Or all the evangelical hardliners behind Perry/Bachmann/Santorum could get behind a quasi-conservative Mormon candidate?

Hint: "Anybody but Obama" is out there, but so is "Anybody but Romney". A lot of them would stay home or vote third party out of spite, and I can definitely see some of the RON PAUL people picking Obama over Romney.

If Romney get's the nomination he should switch parties a week before the election and Obama should name him his vice president.

I can't blame conservatives for looking anywhere they can for a glimmer of hope leading into campaign season, but this is just dumb.

"We didn't know at the time how severe the economic crisis was going to be," Mr. Obama, visibly more gray than in 2008, said. "We didn't fully appreciate at the time the worldwide magnitude of the financial crisis."

so maybe they were talking about his mood, though I had always understood that to be the proper use of the word "grey" -- maybe.

Because if there is one group that has the experience and wisdom to guide this country, it's young people.

Not that the GOP is particularly careful about following such things, but isn't there some rule that the President/VP can't come from the same state?

// or is Romney suddenly "from Utah" again?
// or Michigan?
// does it go by residence or state of birth?
// didn't Cheney have to move back to WY to run with Bush (who "was from TX")?

That's why old white men drafted them and sent them to die in Vietnam.

that's intresting, that is quite a difference. It doesn't suprise me that many republicans are meh on their options. I wonder what the 2004 dem caucus had for turnout, the options for democrats were pretty crappy that year.
