This is good news, but I'd be much happier if there were more locations of Round Rock Donuts.

I bet the police are happy about this. Double the donuts!

I have no clue why this place is so popular. Their coffee is the best thing on the menu. The donuts are generally terrible and usually half-stale, and at every single Dunkin Donuts I have ever been to, the service is pathetic.

2012-01-04 11:28:31 AM
LOL, this one was predictable.

1) In the beginning, there was Dunkin Donuts and McDonalds, and it was good. 2) Alas, for many years, thee economy does well yea verily, 3) People are willing pay more for morning coffee and become respecters of persons based on disposable cup logos 4) As prophesied, Starbucks explodes, now requiring 10 heads of cattle per drink of morning nectar 5) And lo, the economy tanks. 6) as commanded by almighty dollar, starbucks changes menu, offering items for only 5 head of cattle. 7) it is now that Dunkin Donuts returns in might and glory.

The only problem I have with Dunkin' Donuts is the foreigners behind the counter who can't understand 2 damn words of English.

My favorite new developing trend at the Dunkin Donuts near me is "Here's the stuff you ordered, now I'm going to walk away and disappear without giving you your change and just 'assume' its a tip because I don't think you'll stay parked in the drive thru lane waiting for sixty three cents."

So true...

I own a donut shop and run a tight labor cost. These corporate giants run enormous staffs and we sell the same price donuts... plus the operating cost have to be double mine if not triple... I don't see how expanding is profitable. Yes they sell machine made donuts to the dumb masses at a higher quantity than I, but man that is a lot of .80 donuts...

KK did it not to long ago and almost went under..(would not have been a loss) DD is doing it now in the south and will never survive. KK is starting to do it to answer DD and they will get burned too. you can only staturate a market with so many donut shops before you realize that double stores double profits...

We've always had a couple per town here, and even so I've seen a couple of new ones go up recently. There are at least 10 within a 10-minute drive of my house. I don't think we need much more.

CSB-ish side note: I went to Berlin a few years ago and there were Dunkins all over the place. I haven't been to too many other places in Europe, but I'm not sure that I saw even one anywhere else. Weird.

offacue: Ask Krispy Kreme now that worked out for them.

Well, that's because Krispy Kreme is disgusting. Once they expanded out of the South and into regions where people actually have a sense of taste, it's no wonder they crashed and burned.

As for Dunkin Donuts, it's pretty mediocre all around. As far as big doughnut chains go, I prefer Tim Hortons. Their doughnuts are also mediocre, but I their coffee is much better than Dunkin's.

I just checked their site, and there are six (SIX!) within 2 miles of my house, and I live in a small-ish town (and all six are jammed every morning). I don't think they are expanding much in the northeast. The article mentioned new supply chains, so I assume they will be entering new markets, or beefing up in markets where they have a lesser presence.

oh and for the record Dunkin' Donuts sucks - all of it - coffee, pastries, service - the whole nine yards.

i pass a dd quite often. i rarely buy donuts anyway, but there are PLENTY of asian owned/operated donut shops around that make far better donuts, with quick, friendly, non-uppity service in simple non-froofroo stores...i have to pass by at least 3 of them to get to dd

I don't think people who call velveeta and ketchup on a saltine "the greatest pizza in the world" can lecture others about their taste in junk food.

I live in a town with three Dunkin Donuts for our 8,000 people, and another ten stores within ten miles (not counting the vending in gas stations), so I'm getting a kick out of this.

Asians are short. They are able to work close to the doughnuts. Westerners are tall and gangly and make sloppy doughnuts.

Not an issue. It's a point job. I like to toss a dart at the chosen doughnut and haggle with the staff that I won it.

Better not brew that coffee New England style (Brown, weak) if they plan to expand out West. I don't eat many donuts, but my coffee needs to be strong.
