You don't need permission from some phone monkey to defend yourself against criminals.

Good on her for protecting her child. There really isn't any other argument to be made here.

She stayed on the line for a terrifying 21 minutes and asked the dispatcher if it was all right to shoot if the men forced their way in.

It took them 21 minutes to kick the door in? In the middle of the day? With her threatening them with death should they succeed? I think these assholes win Dumbest Criminals of 2011.

Sarah McKinley, 18... McKinley's husband had just passed away from lung cancer on Christmas Day.

How old was her husband?! She's 18, he was what... 60?

Grapple: Good on her for protecting her child. There really isn't any other argument to be made here.

No one breaks in to a house to hurt/steal a child. They wanted money, valuables and maybe a little rape. The kid was fine.

I'm not saying she shouldn't have defended herself, but to say she was protecting her baby is just drama.

The photo on the GMA story this morning looked like it was from the early 80's. My guess is around 50.

Geez, she's had it tough between losing her husband to cancer, left with a young baby, and having to kill an armed intruder in her home.

I hope she gets a complementary crime scene cleanup from the local provider of such.

/Dead intruders aren't particularly cleanliness conscious.
//Particularly after dying from a shotgun blast.

"I can't tell you that you can do that, but you do what you have to do to protect your baby," the dispatcher told her

Exactly why couldn't the dispatcher tell her to shoot the mother farkers?

The guys breaking in where not the brightest bulbs ever.
They may very well have thought it would be a good idea to shut the baby up while raping the woman.

I'm a liberal. Even an extreme liberal in some cases. According to some Republicans I would be the most liberalist socialist commie to ever be liberal.

I have no problems with shootings like this or even that kid stabbing the bully.

Liability in the inevitable lawsuit from the criminals' families? That's all I can think of.

/sad that I can think of anything like that.

Police say that McKinley was justified in taking action against the intruders once they entered her home.

"The Oklahoma laws are clear on the home and the right to your home are absolute,"

If someone's forcing entry into your residence, you DO NOT call 911 until after the perp(s) are dead on the floor.

Your phone will not save your life in a situation like that.

She had 21 minutes before they got in.

She had time to call 911, order a pizza, get the pizza, eat the pizza, wash the dishes, and do a load of laundry before they got in.

Frankly I think the real outrage has to be the police response time. Maybe she was out in the boonies or something, but I would think a 911 call with a break in happening that police would have made that a priority and been there a lot quicker.

Usually those are the code words to get the cops out quick. At least it is in Los Angeles, so I'm not. . .

Nevermind, it's Oklahoma. They were lazy and let her take care of it for them.

Sarah McKinley, 18, was alone with her son in their Blanchard, Okla., home about 2 p.m. Dec. 31 when two men tried to break in, the Oklahoman said. McKinley's husband had just passed away from lung cancer on Christmas Day.

There is the real story. And the cops couldn't get there in 20 minutes?

A 911 call takes maybe what, a minute as long as you're not on hold waiting for some moron complaining that his TV's not working? Even dialing and leaving it off the hook should be enough to get attention.

That said, if you live in a place that it takes the cops 21 minutes to get to (so you're five minutes from the gym, then?) then perhaps you should find yourself a weapon.

Lots of people kidnap children. Perhaps the person kicking in the door was the child's biological father. That would certainly explain the situation.

No one sticks around for 21 minutes trying to kick open a door with a woman on the other side talking to 911 while wielding a firearm unless there is something in there more valuable to them than whatever money an 18 year old single mother would have.

If criminals choose to live outside of the law, then they should not be protected by it and we should be allowed to shoot the shiat out of any burglar we see.

If you live outside the law, you should not be allowed due process.

You'd think the, "Hello, operator, the cops have about five minutes to get here before I plug a biatch" would get a faster response time.

The reason the 911 operator didn't just tell her to go ahead and shoot was because of liability. I also agree with everyone asking why the cops couldn't get there within the 21 minutes she was on the phone to 911. Extended donut break?

A lot of stuff about this doesn't add up. What were they doing for 21 minutes? Why did it take the police so long to respond? So much time went by that you'd think she could have fired a warning shot.

According to Google Maps, I live 2.4 miles, 11 minutes from the nearest police station. I'm in town, and 2.4 miles is practically right down the road.

I be lots of you farkers live much farther from a police station (or patrolling officer at any given moment, impossible to tell that) than you think, and may be surprised to find out how long you may have to wait for a public servant to save what remains of you.

Martin had come by McKinley's house earlier in the day, claiming he was a neighbor who wanted to say hello. McKinley turned him away.

Probably had nothing to do with the baby but that doesn't matter. I'm glad he's dead.
