It's funny to think that people back in those days believed in things like ghosts, spirits and the afterlife.

Oh, wait.........

I went looking for more info and I came across this on the wiki

He told the court about his relationship with Fanny and of her resurrection as "Scratching Fanny" (so-called because of the scratching noises made by the "ghost")

See that's funny to me because here in Britain a fanny is... the front one, not the bottom. So scratching fanny does sound like a medieval name for something... something uncomfortable. It helps that I have the sense of humour of an 11 year old.

A ghost was murdered? That sounds improbable.

And the moral of the story is... pay your debts and be a responsible parent.

karnal: Cock Lane? Isn't that just down from Ragged Ass Road?

London street names got a lot more basic than that.

back in the 1600's there was a gropecnut lane (small typo to get past the word filter) in the city of London, which was known as a place to pick up 'ladies of horizontal exercise'

Subby, for crying out loud, you've got cock and Fanny in the article and you didn't use either in the headline!

Sometimeʃ you juʃt have to know what iʃ going on, and having someone give you the giʃt of the article iʃn't going to help your comprehenʃion.

Something tells me, most of the readers here haven't REALLY used either in their life, let alone the headline.

This article proves to me that 250 years ago, graphic artists couldn't draw a decent text bubble to save their life.

I went back and re-read like four times. The key evidently is that the landlord Parson's daughter is also named Elizabeth - Elizabeth Parsons. Not that the writer thought it was necessary to say that or anything. The first dead wife is named Elizabeth Kent.

"The sounds emanated from Elizabeth." Well, that clears it up.
