OH NO! This means that I have to change from NEVER going to Starbucks to NEVER, EVER going to Starbucks.

A 1% increase isn't something I can really work up the energy to care about. What is that? $0.02 a cup? So $7.00 a year if I buy one every day?

"The average price hike across the two regions is approximately 1%, according to Starbucks spokesman Jim Olson. In New York, for example, a tall brewed coffee and tall latte drinks will cost 10 cents more.."

So you are saying that a tall latte costs 10 dollars? No wonder nobody goes there. Also, what does Superman have to say about this?

Starbucks coffee would be overpriced if it was free

Starbucks comes in handy if you're in Manhattan and need to pee.

In a contracting economy, the smart business plan is to raise prices.

3) Profit

And this is needed because (if I heard the newsperson correctly this morning) they *only* had like a $1.6BILLION dollar profit last year. Those poor farkers.

Starbucks is bitter, and over-roasted; either that or they use Robusta beans, which is also unacceptable for a place selling "premium" coffee.

That seems to be the methodology most companies seem to be working on around here. Squeeze until the blood stops coming out.

I've found a lot of West Coast coffeeshops tend to prefer over-roasted beans. Or else they are used to copying Starbucks. Less Italian influence?

It's a purely discretionary item. You don't bleed if you don't buy. If I was them I would absolutely raise the price. The people who pay for that overpriced swill will easily pay a higher price.

Here's the crazy part. Research shows some people think Starbucks is "cool". Like they think you look at their Starbucks cup and say "wow, that person went to Starbucks. She must be with it."

Couldn't care less. Found an unused starbucks card. $30 on it. Bought coffee. It sucks.
Lesson: starbucks coffee sucks.

/I did want a bj from the waitress, she wasn't compliant.

You need to order the "full body" latte.

This is what I came to say. Who the hell pays $10 for a cup of coffee!? If I'm paying that much for a beverage, it better come with a happy ending, get me drunk, or both.

When you don't feel you can add new customers, then yes, increasing your revenue per customer with a price change so small it is unlikely to result in fewer customers is a smart plan.

WTF? I don't know where you're going, but all the third-wave roasters in SF, Portland, and Seattle are doing very light roasts exclusively.

so now how are the libs going to convince everyone that there is no inflation?

Starbucks has K-cups now. $20.00 for 12 K-cups.

No thanks.

Nope, it just means that the price didn't go up on some items and went up over 1% on others.

Otoh, many Starbucks customers are used to paying way too much for things.

Starbucks charges me 67.3 cents for a cup of coffee in New York City. It's fast. It's fresh. It tastes good. Find me a better deal.

I pay $1.85 for 22 oz coffee at Starbucks in New York City. NY farkING CITY. That's a large black coffee. (I order large, not their hipster sizes.) If you're ordering something else, you're ordering dessert. If you want a soy caramel mocha frappe, fark you. That's not coffee. That's an indulgence. Pay extra for holding up the line. Pay extra for ordering dessert during the 9AM rush hour. fark you.

$1.85/22oz = .0841 cents/oz.

.0841*8 = 67.3 cents for a cup of coffee. A cup is 8 ounces. No more. No less.

And despite the mass increase and price, they still pay their baristas shiat, especially in big cities.

For all you Starbucks haters, sign a petition to get them to pay better wages (new window). At least if they are separate fools from their money, they wealth should be spread more equitably.

I think the bitter taste is just their burnt, nasty coffee subby.
