So, they couldn't come to an agreement over the land with the farmers, but the farmers don't farm the land?

I mean, I know you don't have to farm it, but...if you're not going to do anything with it and not make money off it, why keep it?

Get T-Mobile to buy it up and turn it into that Orgy Wonderland they kept talking about in the commercials. :)

This is sad:

The project was halted in 1998 after the developer and local farmers failed to reach an agreement over the rights of the land.

Couldn't the developer pull some strings and have a handful of farmers executed?

Yeah, saw this on Fark a month or so ago. Still neat but definitely a recent repeat.

I know I'm a bit strange, but I guess I would be one of those people noted in the article who finds decaying buildings cool. Creepy yes, but also cool.

Yeah, but then they have to worry about Toshiro Mifune and a small band of men, and, well...let's just say that the cost of continually hiring men to replace those killed was too much for them.

I like the way you think. Execute a few to make an example. Fear will keep the rest of the local systems in line.

went to a foundry in China a few years ago that had a half completed hotel/apartment complex on the property. seems to be a lot of that going on.

There is nothing creepier than an abandoned amusement park. Hell, even when busily occupied, they are places where the uncanny valley is never far away. It's no coincidence that so many horror stories and crime mysteries are set in them.

She would have to be there. And of course the little people. You can't have a proper orgy without midgets.

TFA:
According to the photographer, a small community now lives beside the abandoned castle, and residents appear to be tending the plants growing in the car park.

What you're seeing in these pics could be just 50 or so acres of the 250 or so initially pegged for development.

How about where Dave Streeter meets George Elvid in Fair Extension?

That's a pretty cool opportunity to be able to go there and take these photos. The only complaint I have is why only show seven pictures? And one is just some power-lines that could have been from anywhere.

Be interesting to compare and contrast the creepiness of the abandoned theme park in Florida known as Splendid China.

This is straight outta Scooby Doo. Obviously Old man Ping used his absurdly sophisticated hologram technology to frighten all of the patrons and staff away, keeping the secret diamond mine concealed within from being discovered. I'm sure some rape-van-dwelling stoners will be along eventually to thwart his otherwise brilliant scheme.
