Btw shclubmitter, did you RTFA? He stalked her and put a note on her car after he had given her a ticket.
You lose points for not working stalker into the headline.

Asking for a BJ to avoid a ticket is much less creepy than what he did.

"The letter caused plaintiff to suffer great fear and anxiety," the lawsuit says. "Plaintiff could not believe that a police officer would use his access to her personal information to find her home and stalk her."

Normally I can't stand a woman's quickness to hit the creep and stalker buttons. But in this case it's a cop so that pretty much overrules the other hot button topics.

This is one of those "what NOT to do while at work" deals. Why would this seem like a good idea to ANYONE? I mean, really? If he gave her a ticket, he should know her name at the very least. Google has LOTS of information.

I don't see a problem with this. Now, if he'd offer to withhold the ticket in exchange for a date, that'd be a problem.

Wait until one of you cop-bashers here on Fark needs help. I promise you one thing, it won't be no laughing matter then. I'll bet this chick was either asking for it or she figured she'd encourage him to try to get out of ticket. My grandson is a law enforcement officer and I'll have you know he does not get ANY self-gratification when he has to put Alpo on his genitals just to get 'Mr. Bojangles' to eat.

Ok, now that I've read the frackin' article:

CHICAGO -- A suburban Chicago police officer used a $132 speeding ticket he issued to track down a woman and ask her for a date, saying the least he could do for costing her so much money was to buy her dinner, a lawsuit filed by the woman alleges.

THAT is a problem. I'd just assumed it was a random pullover + speeding ticket. But using a ticket to track someone down? Big feckin' problem.

2012-01-04 06:58:24 AM
Maybe he should have asked her to step out , so that he could pat her down "real good" first.... then ask for that date. That's what a prince charming in a blue uniform really would look like

I don't see a problem with it either. Maybe in poor taste, but the guy wasn't offering to get rid of the ticket, he wasn't making inappropriate remarks, he asked her out to dinner. Period. I've had jobs where I had to get a girl's number in the course of business and although I never did it I don't think it would have been the worst thing in the world if I had called one of them. Definitely nothing to get sued over.

Like me, you didn't read the article. Glad to know I wasn't alone. The issue here is the guy took a preexisting ticket and pulled the personal information of the woman, used that to go to her private residence, then offered to take her out by leaving a note on her car.

He sounds ugly.

If you're handsome enough, you can get away with being a creep. Or so I learned from Hollywood.

Well, there's his problem right there. If he had been a hot cop (example below), this would have been the heart-warming beginning of a wacky romantic comedy full of hijincks, with our young heroine swept off her feet.

You know, I'm pretty much one of the stauncher defenders of our boys in blue here on Fark, and one of the ones that will say "Wait for the thing to play out" in terms of the sensationalism of anything that occurs between a cop and a civvy. But, even with this, I can safely say there's no defense - the guy is an obsessed creep who took a wildly inappropriate proposition towards an individual he was citing, and then - for lack of a better term - stalked her when he was rejected.

The fact he made a pass at her, according to the Sexual Harassment policies of a major metropolitan department, should have gotten him atleast suspended.

If I were the cop, I would have just started masturbating when I was standing next to the car and, if she said anything, I would have laughed, shouting "DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY! DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY!"

Makes no sense, but that's what I'd do.

Any people in Chicago want to Google stalk, find her residence and leave another note on her car?

"I heard about how you were hassled by the cops and I think that's disgusting. I truly appreciate you as a human being which is why thousands of us tracked you down to ask if you maybe sorta kinda wanted to go out on a date.

Ps: don't mind the movement in the bushes across the street, those are just some raccoons"

What the cop did was wrong. But filing a lawsuit generally means she wants a few bucks out of this. Naming the police chief and the police department would tend to confirm that she's after a substantial amount. It would seem that a more appropriate thing for her to do would be to report the incident to his superiors and to the IAD of the Stickney PD and let them handle it. Unless, of course, she's in this for the money and is being an AW.

You didn't have to say you sided with cops to detect your douchiness, cops ARE "civvies". They aren't military, they're civilians given arrest powers when a crime is commited, why they're treated as being above the law is baffling.

How did he have to "pull" her info? She gave him her license which prob had her address -- or at least her name. Google, anyone?

His note was kinda creepy, but if he were hot and she were into him, it would have been the sweetest note ever.

Maybe I am too but shes a whorish gold digger if she's suing for money instead of a restraining order or simply filing a complaint.

Had a cop pull my gf and I over years ago on a lonely road on the edge of town. Offered to let us off if he could have half an hour with her in his cruiser.

Lucky for me, Dr. Demento was just coming on.

/kidding - she freaked and reported him. He's now a staff sergeant.
