Dadoody: Santorum is more of the same from the Neo-cons...basically a bible thumping socialist.

I think you mean populist.

2012-01-04 02:31:09 AM
TheSource: Mine was better: Santorum squeezes out come-from-behind win in Iowa.

You got a funny vote for that. You should have saved that gem, Though I don't know how many more caucus wins frothy will get.

Bill Frist:
2) The gerrymandering of our districts has led to a situation where huge swaths of politicians run unopposed either literally or for all intents and purposes. As such, in a gerrymandered district the politician only has to worry about challenges to the right, if they are Republican, or left, if they are democratic. So they run on positions far more extreme than their state or country as a whole believes in.

The interesting thing is that a packed gerrymander is usually only given to the party out of power in a given state: The more of your opponents' voters that you can pack into non-competative districts, the fewer remain to run in competitive districts.

With this strategy, it would be possible to give Republicans a majority of districts in California, a state where Democrats have a 2:1 registration advantage.

Something that occurred to me is that the Voting Rights act, by requiring safe seats for minority groups (who typically favor Democrats), likely actually decreases the total number of Democrats that get elected overall.

Santorum comes in Number Two.

2012-01-04 02:33:51 AM
In addition to my last post, it certainly doesn't help that a backwater state so significantly determines funding.

2012-01-04 02:34:02 AM
Corvus: Britney Spear's Speculum: Cain has 58 votes. Those 58 people screwed this shiat up royally.

Well since this a winner takes none competition (the delegates aren't even pledged in this sham) It really doesn't matter much if you won as long as you did well.

WAIT
WHAT?????

how are the delegates picked/pledged decided?
so iowa is COMPLETELY retarded???

sigh

ArcadianRefugee: I'm surprised as well. I've actually been keeping up with (or so I thought ... ) the goings-on of things in politics lately and I had no idea Santorum was even running for the nomination.

ACEllis: I think Santorum had an amazing speech. It was genuine, laid out a tangible jobs plan, and showed a serious human side that is impossible to call fake.

Well, I see someone else has not been paying attention to any sort of politics at all, so now I don't feel so bad.

Don't misjudge his speech. It was genuine, heartfelt, and Presidential, and I find his politics abhorrent. Romney's in for a fight.

2012-01-04 02:35:18 AM
Romney the winner with 8 votes. The Iowa GOP decreed it.

2012-01-04 02:35:41 AM
THIS JUST IN.. ROMNEY WINS!!!!

SUBBY BLEW HIS WAD EARLY.

Bill Frist: (in terms of the population's mindset, radical thinkers/leaders on the horizon, labor power, etc.) than we've been since the late 60s.

That's because that stuff isn't just there. It has to be built up.
Yes there needs to be a change in the population's mindset. Yes labor needs to start being more confrontational.
Waiting around on radical thinkers/leaders doesn't contribute to anything though.
And when I say revolution I don't mean the moment where a gun comes out, I mean the entire process of changing how things work through direct/community action not unlike Occupy.

In the Republican caucuses, each voter officially casts his or her vote by secret ballot. Voters are presented blank sheets of paper with no candidate names on them.[9] After listening to some campaigning for each candidate by caucus participants, they write their choices down and the Republican Party of Iowa tabulates the results at each precinct and transmits them to the media.[10] In 2008, some precincts used a show of hands [11] or preprinted ballots.[12] The non-binding results are tabulated and reported to the state party, which releases the results to the media. Delegates from the precinct caucuses go on to the county conventions, which choose delegates to the district conventions, which in turn selects delegates to the Iowa State Convention. Thus, it is the Republican Iowa State Convention, not the precinct caucuses, which selects the ultimate delegates from Iowa to the Republican National Convention. All delegates are officially unbound from the results of the precinct caucus, although media organizations either estimate delegate numbers by estimating county convention results or simply divide them proportionally.

so your pretend vote today counted for literally nothing.
thank you for playing
can we let the adults decide now??

/WTF kind of retarded system is this ?????

TheJoe03: Is this really the best we can do America? We have over 300 million people and we can't find one decent person to lead us? Really?

Decent people have no business in politics.

If you rise to the top of a major political party, it is because you have learned to suppress your conscience, or have had it removed altogether.

Santorum Comes from Behind to Win Iowa

2012-01-04 02:41:15 AM
Boxcutta: A hilarious result. American political expert and former judge of NBC reality programming, Piers Morgan, thinks that Santorum is likeable and admirable. Equally funny.

Piers "Morgan" Moron is Rick Perry grade stupid

Take away their huge pensions and salaries. Take away their right to vote themselves higher ones and send them all to a Congress Camp in the middle of nowhere. If they honestly want to be politicians in those condition, then they should.

TheJoe03: The WindowLicker: Stop thinking about your own butthurt feelings, and start being a goddamned American for once you whining pussy.

You sir are a massive douche. I'm not allowed to vote how I want? Assclown.

Vote how you want bro,

But vote like a man, not a whining child.

I read, "Wahhh my marijuana!" and Omfg latest controversial talking point!" in your reasoning.

Pot prohibition will take care of itself in good time, provided that the left is able to continue to function as a demographic.

I am not telling you to vote for someone, although that might be what it sounds like to you. I am telling you that unless you are an unmitigated, selfish and spoiled farkwit, you are going to vote against something.

There is one party that actively opposes abortion, gay rights, civil liberties, diplomacy (as opposed to war) and government regulation. Refusing to effectively combat that party, is a poster perfect case of evil succeeding because of good men doing nothing.

I will give you a hint, revolutions don't work in powerful countries. We will never have an "American Spring". Look at what is going on in Syria. Plenty of countries could step in, and they don't. Everyone hates lawyers because they win by twisting the rules. The politicians and corporations are following the rules, twist them right back because otherwise you are going to be the stain that gets pressure washed off of a tank tread.

Enigmamf: Studies have pretty consistently shown that those who don't vote would rarely differ from those who do by enough of a margin to change the outcome of an election - certainly not by enough to cause any massive change in how government works.

I have not read these studies, can you point me in their direction? I am genuinely curious (no snark).

Ahahahahhahahahah I don't know if it's the vodka or the just stupidity of the candidates for the GOP but it's seems that the people actually running the party said no to the fundies, though Mormons are their own bunch of nutty seriously jesus christ my sister is one and she's not the person she used to be. It's very sad to lose a family member to a cult and have them ram their awesome religion down your throat the entire time they stay with you while also insulting you even though you're the farking one who has been taking care of mom since you were farking 14 while she farked off. After 2 failed marriages, massive student loan debt and not contributing a farking thing when she stayed with you she then acts as if she's morally superior in oh so many ways and one of those ways is that she's a Mormon Republican. In conclusion all the Republican candidates can go fark themselves.

2012-01-04 02:45:15 AM
Oh good. So Obama is pretty much guaranteed to win now.

Way to go Derp Herders.

2012-01-04 02:45:29 AM
I was watching Gingrich speak tonight and all I could think was...So, the only Speaker Of The House in American History to be sanctioned and fined for ethics violations and forced to resign by his own party is aligning with a senator who was outed in 2006 as one of the most corrupt politicians in Congress to bring down the "only electable candidate" who, as Governor, championed in his own state health care reform bill that was the basis for Obamacare; which is what all the candidates have been setting themselves up to run against for the past 4 years.

You can' t make this shiat up people

painless42: My favorite Iowa caucus result? The 133 people who voted "No Preference" So it's January in Iowa. It's dark, the temperature is hovering just over freezing, and you take the trouble to drive to your local VFW hall, sit through an hour of speeches, actually stick around to the very end to vote, and then when it all comes down to it, you vote "No Preference"? Seriously, WTF?! Are you really that bored? These people must call the suicide hotline just to share their pie recipes.

i like pie

2012-01-04 02:47:53 AM
After vigorous plugging by adult men, santorum's just number two.

2012-01-04 02:49:21 AM
Anyone who doesn't vote for Paul should never complain about the government again...or even give an opinion about the gov't for that matter. Hell, do mankind a favor and shoot yourself

2012-01-04 02:49:22 AM
Good thing Karl Rove came up with a few extra votes for Romney at the last second! That was almost embarrassing!

2012-01-04 02:49:33 AM
Romney takes Santorum from behind, now on top

2012-01-04 02:49:46 AM
Maybe Santorum will pick Palin as his running mate.
Oh boy!

2012-01-04 02:51:07 AM
looks like it's gonna be Mittens after all. by the skin of his capped teeth.

pssst...Iowa doesn't matter.

Just ask Mike Huckleberry Finn

2012-01-04 02:51:53 AM
Looks like Santorum is a head in the three way.

Cuthbert Allgood: Smelly McUgly: It dawned on me while following some LiveBlogs on the caucus.

We are pretty much Iran.

What the hell happened?

Reagan

Yeah, Reagan is pretty much the answer for everything bad. I mean that with no sarcasm or snark, either.

I guess also Nixon too, considering his whole engineering the Southern Strategy and gladhanding with Billy Graham and all.

NicoFinn: Take away their huge pensions and salaries. Take away their right to vote themselves higher ones and send them all to a Congress Camp in the middle of nowhere. If they honestly want to be politicians in those condition, then they should.

No, then Congress only appeals to the sort of people who really like being a part of your HOA.

Alphax: You sir are a massive douche. I'm not allowed to vote how I want? Assclown.

You think he was incorrect?

Exactly my point. I was an asshole to him, because he gets butthurt too easily, and allows it to overpower his reason. He responded with a knee jerk butt-hurt response, that did not address any of my points with reason.

It was not very diplomatic, but then, I dont have much tolerance for spineless cowards that avoid hard decisions by not making them at all.

Santorum Surge Blows Out Caucus

2012-01-04 02:54:41 AM
I think that Santorum's participation has already tainted things enough; I just hope that his number two position doesn't create a movement for a nationwide smear campaign.

2012-01-04 02:54:43 AM
TheJoe03: The WindowLicker: I really hope, that after all the hooting and hollering about occupy wall street, those dammed hippies occupy a farking voting booth next year.

Too bad Obama has successfully drove away and disappointed his young, liberal base. What a dumbass.

/Him raiding and attacking the medical marijuana clubs in CA was the first straw
//Him signing the fascist police state defense bill was the last
///I'm either voting 3rd party or not at all.

That was my last straw...and I'm a straight ticket Dem. Not in 2012. I will not vote for Obama.
