I think it had a lot to do with Santorum's new campaign Motto:

Santorum 2012: I am not an F'n Mormon

2012-01-04 01:33:58 AM
I don't think anyone likes Santorum in their jockeys

Corvus: If Michele Bachmann is doing that bad, in crazy conservative Iowa she is toast.

Crazy evangelical conservatives do not vote a non-peener into power.

I'm surprised as well. I've actually been keeping up with (or so I thought ... ) the goings-on of things in politics lately and I had no idea Santorum was even running for the nomination.

ACEllis: I think Santorum had an amazing speech. It was genuine, laid out a tangible jobs plan, and showed a serious human side that is impossible to call fake.

Well, I see someone else has not been paying attention to any sort of politics at all, so now I don't feel so bad.

Cain has 58 votes. Those 58 people screwed this shiat up royally.

I disagree, they would vote for a Christian woman over a Mormon guy.

So... Frothy and John Kerry are jockeying for lead in an overglorified straw poll that doesn't actually affect anything?

Half the Santorum speech was talking about his grandfather which was nothing but a calculated shot across the bow of Romney's family/religion. I understand what you saw/experienced and it was a very well-crafted speech but "genuine" is not something I'd allow it.

To me at least (just from a personal standpoint, ignoring politics), Santorum came across as a likable guy. Romney just came across as a prick.

BullBearMS: So how long after Santorum took the White House would Dan Savage be declared a terrorist and disappeared?

I think it'll happen sometime between Hell Freezes Over and Monkeys Fly Out of My Butt.

Captain Frothy McButtfroth still ain't got a prayer. I'd bet his taxidermied fetus on it.

Lupine Chemist: Definitely not a paul fan but the anathema to him has to be based on either the war on terror or the war on drugs. Maybe abortion plays in a bit, but I haven't seen mention of it this cycle (granted I see a heavily filtered version since I don't live in the US).

Nah.
Ron Paul's position on abortion is "let the states decide" with no federal government interference. This is something that neither his supporters nor (Republican) detractors care or seem to know about.
His isolationist stance on foreign policy gets him in trouble because the Republicans don't want to downsize or dissolve any part of the little capitalist empire thing they've got going on.
His war on drugs position gets him in trouble because of the social conservatives morality (and lack of ethics) and the "fiscal conservatives" desire to make some more money imprisoning people or give the conservative government more power to squash dissent.

Well since this a winner takes none competition (the delegates aren't even pledged in this sham) It really doesn't matter much if you won as long as you did well.

LincolnLogolas: So... Frothy and John Kerry are jockeying for lead in an overglorified straw poll that doesn't actually affect anything?

What's even more hilarious is when you put "John Kerry" I actually automatically read "Mitt Romney" and it took me a sec to realize that I translated in my head and you were making the joke.

2012-01-04 01:39:18 AM
Meh. Wake me up if Mitt doesn't win in New Hampshire.

//he's going to go far now that Gingrich has given him his sword to battle the Romney troll.
///Bachmann, Perry support will go to Santorum.

Oh, Santorum's legit all right. He's not a career politician / "I'll be whatever you want me to be" guy like Romney.

Unfortunately, the things he's legit about are all crazy, and if they aren't crazy, they are heartless, douchebaggish ideals like running the clock back on gay rights, banning abortion in virtually all circumstances, injecting more God into government, and (this is true) getting rid of access to birth control AND sex ed that talks about contraception. It's not that he merely wants abstinence only as an option (teach the controversy!), he wants it to be the *only* option.

How someone can want to get rid of abortion, which helps correct for certain colossal farkups or unseen circumstances or rape or what have you, and also want to get rid of birth control and sex ed, both of which REDUCE THE NEED FOR ABORTION, and see no issue that doing both could cause is beyond me. But then, why am I surprised when we're talking about a party that doesn't believe in science and thinks that lowering taxes will raise tax revenue? Logic is no longer much of a commodity in the Republican party.

My favorite Iowa caucus result? The 133 people who voted "No Preference" So it's January in Iowa. It's dark, the temperature is hovering just over freezing, and you take the trouble to drive to your local VFW hall, sit through an hour of speeches, actually stick around to the very end to vote, and then when it all comes down to it, you vote "No Preference"? Seriously, WTF?! Are you really that bored? These people must call the suicide hotline just to share their pie recipes.

So... Frothy's the winnar? Makes sense. Iowans are pissed off that the police came, kicked down their doors, made them dissolve their heterosexual marriages, and forced them at gunpoint to get Gay Married. DAMN YOU GAY AGENDA! SAVE US FROM THE SODOMITES, FROTHY!

I really hope, that after all the hooting and hollering about occupy wall street, those dammed hippies occupy a farking voting booth next year.

If we get stuck with the poster-child of the American Taliban because evangelicals are a more reliable voting demographic than the starry eyed hope and change crew, I will be very grumpy.

But she's tainted by the Wiccan, regardless of the incredibly fake evangelical redemption story, so she gets nothing. They might stone her if she doesn't get out of the state fast enough.

Are you remembering he wants to amend the Constitution with a personhood amendment? That will not allow the states to decide anything.

This really wasn't a surprise. The base does not want Romney, and his PAC has been attacking Gingrich non-stop since he took front runner status. Paul was pretty much in limbo, Perry and Bachman were toast before the first ballot was cast. Just meant that it was Santorums turn in the spotlight. It looks like Perry will be dropping out shortly, but Bachman is making noises that she's going to keep on keepin on (not too bright). Gingrich will dismiss Paul, consider himself coming in third, be happy with that and attack Romney now in hopes of regaining lost momentum. Pauls supporters are going to hang around like desperate housewives the night of Black Thursday in an attempt to swing themselves into a Delegate spot. Romney will now toss his money at both Santorum and Gingrich - and Santorum doesn't really have much of a chance as far as I can see.

While I'd really love for Jon Hunstman to win the GOP nod, (or Mitch Daniels. that would have been great) I'd love to see the fark lib brigade's reaction if Santorum beats Obama in the general. It'd be better then watching high class hookers play mario kart.

There was some encouragement for Occupy Iowa people to show up and vote this way. It's probably warmer than being in a tent.

illusionofjoy: Oh goody, I may get to vote against this asshat again!

PA is closed primary, so for me that'd only be if he won the nomination.

On the one hand I think that'd make for a much more entertaining election than if Romney won, especially being as I have a gay sister and gay roommate, both of whom farking hate the hell out of Santorum. Also, I wasn't old enough to vote back when Santorum got crushed (nor did I live in PA then) so being able to vote that cocksucker down in his own state would be quite pleasing.

On the other, should Obama somehow do worse than expected and Santorum have even a shred of a hope of winning, I think the damage he could do to gay rights, reproductive rights, and reproductive health in this country alone would be staggering. I know he can't just do anything he wants without SCOTUS and Congress going along, but still. The thought of that guy anywhere near the oval office terrifies me. Not that I love Romney, especially being as the guy's basically a career fraud/chameleon, but he'd at least do a heck of a lot less damage.

No, we need Huntsman to win in New Hampshire, so that the GOP have to stop and consider the possibility that someone other than a ranting extremist might be who they want to run... They wont follow through on it, but there will be confusion!

THIS. The way I see it, Romney knocks out Gingrich in the next couple of weeks, leaving Romney, the Not-Romney (Santorum) and Paul. Paul hangs around 20-25% without many big swings. Santorum gets a big boost once Newt and the others drop out. He eventually falters but sticks around because he's the Not-Romney (and that's pretty appealing in this cycle) and Romney eventually becomes the guy to lose to Obama.

Santorum was tossed out on his ass as a PA Senator because he pissed off the AARP with his support and stumping for the Social Security privatization. There is no way in hell the old people are going to elect him to a nation wide office.

Yes we didn't throw him out for his fundy wacko beliefs. We voted him out because he threatened to touch old people's money.
