Oh, and taxes are funding one but not the other. How would you like it if Jesus Camp was being held at public schools? I'm sure you've been angry at creationism being indoctrinated at public schools for the same reason. Save indoctrination for college, and take an #occupy 101 course at an Ivy league school when the time is right.

I don't know if I'd call OWS anti-capitalist... Sure, there were definitely some there. But it was more about holding people that f*cked this country over responsible for their misdeeds. You can have capitalism without allowing for people to get away with such things.

Maybe one or two politically savvy kids came up with it. Maybe they saw it on the news and got into it. It's not beyond the realm of comprehension.
Sure, it's also possible they were coached by adults into writing this, but I'd like to think that didn't happen. That would be wrong.

Using children as your messengers is kind of the deal. Try acting like adults and deliver the message yourselves instead of using kids as your pawns to do it. That's the problem. Of course I can see why you two want to use anything at your "disposal" to get your message across.

I would guess that only one percent of all people would oppose the rest of people singing songs about belonging to the ninety-nine percent. Actually, there are probably more people in the 99% who have a problem with this sort of thing than there are in the 1%.

It is believable that the kids came up with this song themselves. How many of those kids have been directly affected by the housing crash? How many kids have parents that can't find jobs? Yeah, it'd be nice to think that kids are completely isolated from what is happening around them, but that's just stupid. I don't know the demographics of the school that this song was written at, but 21% of the children in the US live in poverty
1
. 42% live in low-income families
1
. 1 in 50 children are homeless
2
.
So saying that children aren't aware of what's going on around them is ignorant. Yes, children are affected by the financial crisis and have to deal with it.

I know the first public school I went to we had to say it and then sing the star spangled banner every morning. Then at least once a week we'd have a bible lesson. No sir,no indoctrination there at all.

When I was in kindergarten, a big presidential election was coming up. In class, we made laminated donkeys and elephants.
Then we were instructed to go home and have our parents pin a donkey or an elephant onto our shirts to wear to class the next day.
There was no outrage.
I have no idea what I was supposed to learn from that as a six-year-old kid and I have my suspicions now about the whole thing. I guess she was trying to raise awareness about the American electoral process...or whatever thinly veiled excuse you want to put on your nosiness. I don't really care one way or the other, but it seems to me that nowadays no one would get away with such a thing.

Conservative indoctrination is different. Children are supposed to be taught to support the status quo up until when they go to college and rebel against their parents (I mean, "find themselves").
Of course, they should grow out of that phase by the time they become functioning adults, have their own children, and once again support the status quo.
Why do you think that OWS are seen as a bunch of whiny youths that haven't grown up yet?
