There's pigs, lots of pigs. Iowa is the number one state for white landrace pigs.

Smell that? That's Iowa.

I'll bet they want to be called "Sons of the Soil", too, but that isn't happening.

And not everyone in Florida is a retiree and not everyone in Cali is a hippie and not everyone in Texas is Rick Perry.

Get over it.

And no one called you hillbillies. You would need hills for that.

Well, I guess you can add inferiority complex to the list of Iowan stereotypes

It's perfectly legal for Dems to register as Repubs just before going to the polls in Iowa. You could vote as both in the same night (If Obama was not on the ticket for 2012.) You're only seeing "half" of Iowa vote tonight, and maybe a quarter of that half is voting for Santorum.

Yep, it's only Democrats voting for Santorum. Never mind he won the evangelical vote hands down.

I think my state borders Iowa, but I'm not sure. And I don't care enough to look at a map or Google it, either.

I doubt many democrats are out voting tonight. However, roughly half of the state is republican, and about a quarter of them are voting for Santorum. I'm sure that 5-10% or so is hoping Santorum overturns the legalized gay marriage that has been on Iowa's books since 2009.

In conclusion, there are idiots out wandering around in Iowa, but it's not the majority of the state. The others eventually leave, which interestingly enough, is called the Brain Drain.

There is no statistically significant number of people who actually do that though, I can guarantee Santorum's showing is 99.9% from actual Republicans.

With that said, I don't hold Santorum's showing against Iowa. Nobody really cares what Republicans think anyway, and they are apparently in the minority in Iowa.

As for Iowa itself, there is nothing that remarkable about it, but I suppose there are at least dozen of states which I think would be worse places to live. Sort of my reminds me of the one Iowa joke I've heard.

What would happen if you gave the bottom two tiers of Iowa counties to Missouri?

Both States would become smarter.

Gay Marriage is legal in Iowa. Pretty much the only state between the coasts that does. No clue where they came from. But they must have some people in power that aren't completely retarded.

Oh, I've lived in Iowa.

They also have snowplows that race down the deserted highways in the middle of the night, waiting for people to pass them from behind so that the passing car can hit the snowplow racing at them from the other direction.

RIP Tom Peterson, weatherman from KCAU-TV Sioux City, who always warned people not to do that, and yet died that way. I worked with you from 1978-1979, and will always remember: Snowplow > Dodge Omni ;)

Pretty nice country along the east border/Mississippi river valley. Very woodsy/hilly with windy roads. Have had some enjoyably toasted drives along the river and off the interstate as I wound down south on a couple of occasions.

Was to Iowa City/Coralville once in the more central part of the state and was shocked at how swanky a college town it was. Neat and rich looking. Probably populated by well to do Chicago kids mostly.

The rest of the state is much like you'd imagine except Desmoin (sp?) thats pretty much like any City/suburb layout you'd find anywhere in the south central midwest.

Seen one mall, you've seen em all.

Those state judges got voted out Link (new window). Iowa also re-elected a senile previous Republican governor. The compression of history might call this period a Dork Age for Iowa.

They have a rather sane Constitution. And the Supreme Court of Iowa came to an unanimous decision that said there was no rational reason to prevent two people from getting married.

/and due to that the wingnuts had three Supreme Court justices thrown out last election
//the ruling is a good read - I highly recommend it

We did have some smart judges! Then they got voted out after Arkansas bought our last election.

Iowa is about 50% sane and 50% insane. Elections are decided by whether it rains on election day.

And the number one issue on the list of things to be concerned about is if two guyswho are farking each other can get married. I am glad we have put things like the weak global economy, national debt, MEDICARE/Social Security solvency, the Consitutionality of the Health care mandate, poltical instablity in the Arab world, North Korea, Iranian Nukes, famine and HIV in Africa on the back burner where they belong.

Marriage is not a right but a regulated government activity like driving. If you want to get government out of the marriage business then get rid of/change government laws and regulations based on marital status , such as the tax code.

Do not really care who calls themselves married as long as my tax dollars are not involved but let us drop this silly contention that it is a "right" .

I was going to mention this. There was a big backlash against it, but I'm proud that my state made this happen.

Yes, Iowans are all stupid hicks. Yet somehow they manage to not have high crime rates, not have a 40 billion dollar deficit and have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation.
