UNC_Samurai: QDoba > Moe's > Chipotle

No, silly. The "less-than" symbol is THIS one...

Ate at Waffle House a couple times during my cross-country drive after grad school. First place was in Asheville North Carolina. The first thing I noticed was the "cash only" sign on the door. The second thing was that the non-smoking section was two booths. The third was the cook--who was a thin guy--had only half his teeth.

Second time was just west of Oklahoma City. Wasn't so bad there. Just a matter of convenience. It was next to the motel.

KidneyStone: And I definitely 2nd the Waffle House, although I have been told there are none north of the Mason Dixon line

I found one in Toledo actually

Chipotle was owned for years by Mcdonalds, and the menu never recovered from it.

2012-01-03 08:37:21 PM
Chipotle is delicious. The rest I can live without, but no one puts Chipotle in the corner.

I generally get the following there: Burrito bowl, white rice with black beans, steak, hot salsa and corn, sour cream and cheese. I grab 2 lemons and drench the bowl. If I am at home, I add a few drops of Dave's Insanity hot sauce. Yum!

Also, this list absofarkinglutely fails without Skyline Chili.

You ARE kidding, right? Skyline is watery, flavorless crap. Their cheddar cheese is shredded plastic. Ugh. Awful, awful chili. I wouldn't feed it to my dog.

Skyline is food of the gods. I'm originally from Cincy and I crave Skyline on a fortnightly basis. Now, Goldstar, OTOH, is crap that comes out of a can and served at malls.

I love it when my mom sends me Graeter's and Skyline care packages.

Yes, okay, I'm some sort of foodie hipster, but that list sucked balls. The burger places and Chipotle are the only ones anyone should ever eat at.

enry: The one time I went to cheesecake factory we spent more time waiting for our table than we spent eating.

/from the way things look every other time I go by, that doesn't seem to have changed

Yeah, nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded. My sister went to a new Cheesecake Factory after it opened in her city and had to wait hours too.

Not true. They got one out in Lancaster, PA, and about 4 others around the middle area of the state. I think that is as far North as they go though. (NJ or NY don't seem to have any according to the locator).

Yup. As a Southern girl, I was very happy to see Waffle House waiting there for me after I hit the outlets outside Lancaster. I do miss that chain up here.

I have no idea why, but I simply cannot stand the WELCOME TO MOES! that gets screamed at you when you cross the threshold. Won't eat there for that alone.

Agree to disagree, then, although I suspect your affection for the stuff may be due to enjoying it as a wee one. Not even a big chili guy and it aint a chain but love the stuff you get at Ben's Chili Bowl in DC.

Skyline tastes like brown sugar and slightly meaty puke.

I'd kill a man to have a Smashburger built in Evansville...

Five of them I've never even heard of. Six of them don't have restaurants in my location.

See my problem with Mexican joints like Moe's is that frankly in most places where there's a Moe's, there's a better Mexican dive within a few miles. Same would probably go for Chipotle, although I haven't been there. Qdoba's and Moe's - to me, meh, it's the same place.

If there is a burger chain in Heaven, it will be In N Out.

bdub77: Actually a very good list. Eaten at all but #9, #3, and #1. I will say I had an awful experience at Melting Pot. Combining wine, very low lighting, uncooked food, and no timer....yeah I god food poisoning on my anniversary. Melting Pot is better as a cheese and chocolate place. Forego the cooking your own chicken and shrimp.

I'd throw in Bonefish Grill and my local chain, El Dorado.

I knew you were in Raleigh before clicking your profile. I used to live in Founder's Row - right next to El Dorado. That was amazing and awful at the same time; no one should have that kind of temptaion 10 steps from their door. Not a chain, but have you done the $1 margarita Mondays at Toreros?

Chipolte is opening up a chain of inexpensive Chinese places to compete with Pei Wei.

Yeah. But they have an underrated, reasonably priced burger.

I'm Canadian and the only one of these I've been to is In-n-Out. The burger was average at best, and the fries were revolting.

For me it's Qdoba's and Chipolte. They are indistinguishable from one another.

Although I do like the Qdoba breakfast burrito. It's the only thing I'll order from there.

I love Chipotle too. Chicken bowl, white rice, beans, lots of salsa and white chedder. Delicious. They have a secret menu too!
I even started making the Jasmine-cilantro- lime rice at home. Much better than tomato based spanish rice IMO.

Yeah, but the Nachos Pollo at El Dorado are the bomb, if you don't mind the caloric intake. El Dorado sometimes has some decent margarita deals too.

My favorite deal at El Dorado though was a $2 24-oz glass of Dos Equis.

I don't always go to El Dorado, but when I do...I drink Dos Equis.

Qdoba==moes==chipotle

Yeah, we only have Chipotle and Qdoba around here, but theyre pretty interchangeable. Chipotle uses chipotles, Qdoba uses poblanos, other than that pretty much the same menu.

"Our handcrafted burritos include cilantro-lime rice, slow-cooked black or pinto beans, salsa, sour cream and cheese"

"Flour tortilla, choice of cilantro-lime rice, pinto or vegetarian black beans, meat (braised carnitas or barbacoa, adobo-marinated and grilled chicken or steak) or guacamole, salsa and cheese or sour cream."

bdub77: Triple hashbrowns, smothered, covered, and topped, preferably cooked by an overweight cook with as much grease on his apron as on the grill, for the full authentic Waffle House experience.

Great coffee too.

The only restaurant that refused to serve me was one time at a Waffle House. I wish I was kidding. My friends and I waited for 30 minutes and no one even asked for an order. No, it wasn't busy, wasn't even that late, and other people were getting their orders and food. There were, however, no other white people in the place. We must have missed the sign on the front door that said No Whites.

SNORT!!!

Yeah, I've been in a couple of WH locations in "urban" environments like that. I just shout my own order to the cook and fark Vaneesha.

I don't know where you people are, but Qdoba is sub-standard to Chipotle.
They obviously just ripped off the idea and give you the option of a couple of different sauces which aren't that good.
No way are they as good as Chipotle.

Ted's is the only one I would consider venturing into. Been to a number of them: cheesecake factory, outback, in-n-out... but gak! Also, the multiple clicks to get to a slideshow gave me a worse indigestion.

Wine and Fondue are great. Just remember to drink the wine and dip your food into the pot. Otherwise...ooochie mama.

On my recent road trip trip to Cali last Spring, I insisted we go to In N Out, and when the rest of the family wanted other fast food, I dropped them off and went across the street to get one of their burgers and fries.

I also miss living in Dallas where I can get a Whataburger or go to Fuddruckers [and now In N Out apparently]. I also miss Pancho's Mexican Buffet [Plano].

I also miss good Tex-Mex and Cajun food. Living in OR sucks.

Haha, I think we tried that. It was just a surreal experience at the time, I was new to the area. Whatever, fine by me, I'll take my money elsewhere. Seems silly to me.

Cool, I'm glad to hear WH has restaurants "north-ish".

We used to go in there and play all of the Waffle house songs on the jukebox and then leave. After we had already eaten, of course. No sense getting anything extra added to the food. But then, those were my more dickish days.

Just recently had 5 guys for the first time, and they really run a tight ship. I like how they have where the taters come from, but I don't get over-filling the bag with tons of fries. I'm not really a fry guy though.

Outback Steakhouse? Are you freaking kidding me? The one time I went I was struck by how leathery tough the steaks were and how unexceptional the rest of the food was. If you want to go and have a nice slab of dead cow, go seek out a Firebirds.

In-n-Out would be great if their shakes were made with real hard ice cream + milk. But they're not, so In-n-Out is just OK.

Where are all of this hoity toity fast food places actually open?

From the list we have:

Jason's Deli
Outback Steakhouse (never been)

Wow only 2. I've heard of about half the other ones, on places like Fark only.

Melting Pot is yummy (if expensive). I like cooking my own meat and stuff at the table, it's fun.

Never heard of Firebirds, but Ruth's Chris Steakhouse is pretty good. Their steaks are WAY better than Outback's.
