Kind of sad in a way. Now that everyone in the first world has their own camera, we have satellites that can take pictures of anything anywhere and failing that, anyone can download software to make up a picture or video of anything they want. So short of a complete alien invasion that kills us all, there's no way to know if aliens or the Loch Ness monster or the Yeti or any other assholes even exist and we never will.

According to Wiki, Loch Ness has a surface area of 56.4 km^2. So a layer of water 1.5 mm deep on top of the lake would make a total water volume of

56.4 x (1000)^2 x 1.5 / 1000 = 86,400 m^3 of water.

In order to displace this much water, Nessie would have to take up as much space as about 34 Olympic swimming pools (of minimal depth). Or, put another way, Nessie would be about 450 times larger than a blue whale, the largest known mammal.

Then again, maybe the effect Nessie has on the tide at the shoreline is greater than would be predicted by a slice of uniform thickness on top of the entire lake, so...

/Plausible?
