comets usually have lots of ice

Usually? It's the ice which makes them comets.

Yeah, no.

It's supposed to go down to 13 degrees here tonight.
I won't be gazing at any stars or meteors or anything else outside.

That is one of the weakest greenlights I've seen in a very long time.

I'm tempted, but it's going to be pretty damned cold tonight, and I don't know of a good spot around here for star-gazing anyhow. :-(

"Heavenly body odor" sounds like a line from something Japanese and horrifying.

Yup. Funk dat. I'd like to watch, but it's going to be entirely too cold here, as well.

Surool: That is one of the weakest greenlights I've seen in a very long time.

Sorta Pete-ish too.

Not gonna bother, clouds as usual. I've managed to see two fireballs and a good shooting star in the last 16 months standing outside having a smoke.

I live in Southern Louisiana... any ideas which direction I should look and when? Or if I'll be able to see it at all.

Of course, I live in a big city so light pollution generally makes these things not available to me.

Me too...been hoping for more of that aurora too, since it ain't typical in these parts.
I got lots of fairly dark sky, but I would like to know which way to look so I know which porch to smoke on...southern KY here..help? These articles are always fairly lacking in that, and the websites that tell you are usually kind of sloppy and aren't much help, either.

The Quadrantid meteor shower is one of the year's best, often producing more than 100 meteors per hour from a radiant near the North Star. In 2012 forecasters expect the shower to peak around 07:20 UT (02:20 am EST) on Wednesday, January 4.

Nothing worth seeing in FL except the rare sight of frost on the ground . I bid you good night.

Woke up early, had hot chocolate brewing with a shot of rum and a splash of tia maria. Wrapped myself up in blankets and hit the balcony. After two hours of solid cloud cover, I gave up. Damn you England.
