You're right, I can't.

/Still own a Commodore 64.

Good to know I wasn't the only one. I think I only ever made it across twice.

Ah the C-64 my first computer, until my younger brother beat it to death with a joy stick, because he could not get the ninja to jump across the river.

I'm not kidding about that the little asshole beat the farking thing into itty bitty little pieces, and after I had a fight with my mom about how the shiat head would break it. Did I get my one and only birthday present that year replaced, noooo. Did the little farktard have to buy me a knew one noooo. I had to wait all year to get a used IBM 8088 and old amber screen monitor, then wait another 1/2 year until Christmas until I could get a color card and RGB monitor for it. Little turd was not allowed to touch my second computer, ever.

Sorry, I really should keep my childhood trauma and bitter resentment more in check.

Subby, you're my new hero. I played that game on the NES, and have never been able to remember the name, nor has anyone ever known what I was talking about.

I beat that game... proud to say. No saved games, no checkpoints (inside the levels anyway).
By the time I got to the dungeons, my pulse was probably around 110.
By the time I reached the inner sanctum, it was probably around 125.

The stupid end screen had me waiting by my C64 for another hour waiting for something to load.

Now Impossible Mission... never even clame close.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that couldn't play that game at all. I did love the music, though.

This! I can't remember the name either. I just remember my brother and I throwing controllers!

What game is the headline referring to. I had my C64 forever, and then graduated up to an Amiga. I can't place a game that involved jumping a ninja over a river.

/Most of my memories are of Space Taxi, Bruce Lee, Little Computer People, and the Olympics' games where ever sport required you to wobble the joystick as fast as possible. (Made by Epyx?)

I love the C-64. My mother had the Fast Hackem' cartridge, as well as the fast loader:

LOAD".....",8

(I think)

Played the hell out of tons of Commodore games as a kid. In fact, I have a complete system in my garage. Once I have some more room I will set it up.

I thought they were talking about Bruce Lee... but yeah, the Olympic games were made by Epyx. Summer, Winter, and World Games... and maybe California Games, but something makes me want to believe that was EA...

I remember the EPYX games too. There was plenty of fun to be had in World Games, as there was a lot more humor to the events.

Friday The 13th, Project Stealth Fighter, and Heart Of Africa were my faves. I never played the Last Ninja, but I never could solve all the puzzles on Boulderdash.

I just never got the puzzle pieces and how they added up. I did manage flipping the bots and searching...
I do remember now calling random numbers on the phone (in real life) and then having my guy jump down the whole so they could play that ARRRAHHHHAAAAAA sample.

The power cord the worst part of the design, you would spend all day typing a program out of the back of a magazine and then you brother would bump the computer and the power cord would fall out.

Ah, the old school days of hand-forged programming and squeezing every last ounce of juice out of the available resources. The programming economy that we used to have to use was mind boggling. To this day, I'm still impressed that Pac Man is all of about 15k in size.

My Tandy 1000 could kick your Commodore 64's ass!

2012-01-03 01:59:54 PM
The Commodore 64 is why I was so completely unimpressed with the NES when it became popular; I was playing better, more complex games long before the NES came out.

Oh, and Electronic Arts is stupid for not remaking Mail Order Monsters.

2012-01-03 02:00:46 PM
I never knew until today that most Euro builds of the C64 had a grey case instead of the beige one on the US model (true) or that here in the United States, Commodore positioned the computer against IBM PC-compatibles as a business machine instead of against the other 8-bits as a home computer (not true),

2012-01-03 02:01:28 PM
At one point, I had the world's highest score for Radar Rat. That lasted for about 15 minutes. Sadly, my C64 drank a beer one night and died.

Holy cow, his spacial relation/manipulation skills suck.

"Hmm... can I put this straight area in this round area? What if I flip it sideways?"

Below the Root on C64 was my favorite game for a long time, at least until I got hooked on Space Quest and the other Sierra adventure games.

The C64 had a few things I grudgingly admit were better than the Apple ][ but by god that 1541 floppy was terrible. 10 mins to read 170kb and a bunch of other flaws. The load time for games was just brutal.

/yes I know it got a better with fixes and new hardware but I didn't live to see it

Thanks... I'm wondering if I should fire it up (and by that I mean find an emulator to try it out).
I'll confess that I don't know if i could figure those out today...

The main guy definitely had the EPYX running animation.

Cliff Jumping music in your head?

If subby is refering to The Last Ninja, yeah, I beat that. That demon dog in the sanctum took a while to figure out though. Smoke bomb?

Now The Last Ninja II, I couldn't figure out how to pass the first level. Ended up taking the game back ... but got Red Storm Rising. Much, much better.

MicroProse made some awesome games. Silent Service (one of Sid Meier's first hits), Pirates!, Airborne Ranger ...
