What the hell is up with the quotes in the article? Every time they run a quote from this person, it turns into unpunctuated word salad. Did they hand off a pre-written article to some chowderhead the day before her wedding and ask her to fill it in Mad Libs style?

My best buddy's twin sister did just that. The parents didn't exactly approve, but I think she got married for a few hundred bucks in Vegas and that made her happy enough.

WRONG! The best man plans the bachelor party, and everyone chips in for the strippers (except for the groom).

Cripes!
She spent almost $20K to clean up the loose skin after she lost the weight at the gym?
Imagine if she had gone the extra lazy route and had all the work done on the table, I wonder how much it would have cost then? 50? 100?

People with kids should not have giant expensive weddings unless they have a college account for the kid.
I have no issues with the surgery- I know people who lose that much weight need to get rid of the skin- but I do have serious issues with women who spend that much money on one friggin party, and their child's future is uncertain.

I know people who have a combined 400,000 dollars in debt (law school debt, to be precise) to spend $35,000 dollars on their wedding. I don't think any concern outside of their own "perfect day" is on their mind. (Although, to be honest, I think the bride was driving up the majority of the costs in that wedding.)

I wonder if there is an inverse correlation between the amount spent on the wedding and the length of the actual marriage.

My wedding cost $30.44, I was happy to pay that out of pocket. Actually, my business paid for the $0.44 stamp, so I guess the final cost was $30.00.

If I'm getting married to a woman, and she has to have shiat done to her face to look pretty for the big day, I already know I'm not marrying the right women. Because there are few reasons for getting a bridalplasty:
1) I hate her face or
2) she hates her face
If the first, then I don't find her attractive enough to marry. FAIL.
If the second, then she's crazy and you shouldn't marry her. Also FAIL.

Oh and our wedding was about $12k (and another $10k for the honeymoon), but we didn't go into debt for any of it. We had a blast too, so it was worth it to me.

I had a $25K wedding 8 years ago. I just stood around agape as the various costs tallied up. Some women need to have it, and there's no point in thinking about it further. .
$10K of that cost was just the open bar tab -- we have some hard-drinking friends.

I didn't have a typical wedding. We went to a courthouse in Colorado and paid about $15. Got dressed up that night, took pictures and had an awesome dinner with the immediate family. It was a great day. We may throw a huge party, along the lines of what our wedding could have been, on our 10 year anniversary.

You sound like us. We spent almost as much on our honeymoon as our wedding, and didn't go into debt. Had a ton of alcohol, which the church allowed us to bring in (gotta love catholic weddings - except for the wedding itself which drones on). Had a total blast. People still come up to me and tell me it was the best wedding reception they ever went to.

I dunno...the woman in the article was heavy, then was actually smart about how she lost the weight: she dieted AND did exercise.
She had the surgery to remove the loose skin that was left after she dropped all that weight, and a breast lift to return her tits to their normal position.
I don't see a problem with what she did...and normally, I think plastic surgery is just vain or for the shallow.

Not all men want those perfect-due-to-surgery tits. IMO, nice tits SHOULD have a little sag to them...the "undercurve" of the breast is part of what makes them so pretty and attractive.
If you get those fake boobs that look like two halves of a sphere stuck on your chest, then that's not very attractive at all.

Our wedding cost was around $16K (maybe a bit more) but that included her ring. And frankly, spending $5K on something she's going to wear every day for the rest of her life doesn't seem that bad.
The remaining costs paid for one hell of a wedding and party. We didn't skimp on anything, no VFW halls or church basements, but we didn't get the ultra-expensive stuff either. There's a sweet spot in there where you can spend more than nothing and get quite a lot.
We had about a year to save up for it and walked away from a fantastic wedding and honeymoon with no debt from it.

I think many women see this as a wake up call really. Sure she may have had a cute little waist when they first met but after years of dating, and then living together and then maybe even having a kid first you just sort of let yourself go. Then all of a sudden he whips a ring out and you're happy and excited and then you start arranging the tables of where your friends and families will sit and that's when it hits you: wedding pictures. These will be the pictures you have on your mantle for the next 70 years (or less depending on how long the marriage lasts) and you have to remember that you were that big always. Of all the occasions you have documented throughout your life its the wedding photos you more likely share more than any other and the one of yourself that you have to confront. So, if he stuck with her through thick and thin and then literal thick and thin then I think he's willing to enjoy the skinniness while he still can.

No...I just prefer the woman I am with to be as happy with her body as I am.
Kind of a buzz-kill to think of a woman as the most beautiful thing I have ever seen only to have her be overly-critical of various parts of her body because she's trying to measure up to posters of airbrushed models with firm as a rock augmented boobs.

"I remember walking into um the plus store and just the realization of trying on jeans size 22 was the most depressing thing in the world," Ray, 26, said.
"As I started losing weight, I actually had a face. You know it wasn't just three chins. You start seeing this person underneath the skin ... My daughter says to me Mommy you're pretty now," she said.
"I know it sounds crazy but... it is the worst thing in the world to literally wear three tank tops to hold all your suction in, everything and so it's worth it for me," she said
"I feel like everything just fits the inside now. The inside matches the outside package ... I just want my day to be like ... 'That was my special day and I got to get to feel like a princess,'" she said.

But who supposed to pay for the bridalplasty?
The bride should pay for 70% because its her face
the groom should pay for 30% because he has to look at it
//he groom should be required to watch a few episodes of Married with Children before the big day. it is his destiny.

Total wedding cost a decade ago for me was about $600. That's including the reception, the gas to the wedding location and the clothes, food, decorations and reception location were free. Reception would have just been a bbq had it not been for my husband's aunt calling in a favor from a family friend who was in the wedding business. It was still a nice evening and a nice reception.
I was of the mind and still am of the mind that it's the marriage that's important, not the wedding. Getting immediately into debt as newlyweds seems stupid as can be as well.

This article sucks. From everything except the specific of the lone subject featured it makes it sound like these brides who do this are vaporous airheads who feel they have to be absolutely stunning and they aren't, probably from a low self esteem. The one person featured is someone who lost a lot of weight the hard (but proper) way and only had surgery to lose the loose skin. This is a very common necesity after huge weight loss. Remember fat bastard at the end of Goldmember? Thats a bit of a exageration but not that much. In fact if a real person lost as much weight as FB did, thats really not too far off the mark. I know someone who lost 200 lbs... He looked like a half deflated volleyball.
Some insurance companies cover it medically. Many do not. Thats if you even have insurance nowadays. If you've lost that much weight and have that much excess skin, ti's worth it. $20K sounds ridiculous though.... although she did have a bit of lip and a breast lift. Again, it's not uncommon to have that done in conjunction with the skin removal procedure.
