about 6 years ago i went down south to tour some civil war battle fields. it was amusing because going into the trip it was very cold and was snowing. the people in Tennessee just went bonkers when it snowed.
to be fair, it was the first few days of april. it was 85 the rest of the trip.

Hell, I live in upstate NY, in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, and I've never used tire chains. Good set of snow tires, or all-season radials, on a front-wheel-drive car, and just slow the fark down, and you'll be fine.

Lives in Atlanta.....owns tire chains for both my cars. They are so cheap and easy to put on nowadays that its silly not to have them.
\ Also has a house in WNC, where snowfall can sometimes be measured in feet

Last night driving from DC to Nashville we hit a snow flurry shower in TN on imterstate 40. About a quarter inch accumulation, and then it was like the zombie apocolypse had arrived. Every 2 miles there was a major accident with multiple emergency vehicles on site, in between those were cars laying rolled over in ditches that no one had arrived to yet, and we even saw a life flight copter land on the east bound lanes for a semi that slid off an over pass - with all the mayhem, flashing lights, smashed cars, I actually passed the time by pretending I was in a disaster movie fleeing a city that had just been over run by something -
Helped pass the time... until I realized t was from a TRACE amount of snow then I became angry

Fun fact, the temperature reaches 10-15 degrees F frequently in the south in the Winter. What it generally doesn't do is precipitate at the same time (cold air is drier air). Global Warming which only increases temperature by a few degrees (30 degrees is still cold enough to snow) can actually cause more snow in many areas as it increases the humidity.

I guess my conservative friends in Texas will point to this and conveniently forget that nearly every day this past summer had record setting heat.
I really don't know enough to argue either way about global warming/climate change, I just find it funny that most conservatives I know won't argue about it until the first snow of the winter.

If you don't treat your roads before the snow starts, even a quarter to a half inch can be a problem as the snow will melt and then freeze onto the roadway. See, us Northerners figured this out a long time ago.

Same as jsteiner78. Except it was SC. I grew up in the Great White North, so driving on ice and snow was how we spent our Summer vacations. Well, Spring break maybe. Anyway, we lost count at around fifty cars in the roadside ditch. We even had to help a cop get his car out of a ditch and gave him lessons on how to drive in a "low friction environment."
Lived in New Jersey a few years later. Their philosophy about driving in inclement weather is: Go faster. The cops are going to be busy pulling bodies out of wrecks, so there's less chance of getting a ticket.

Record setting warm spell in Calgary, Alberta. We had a brown Christmas (no snow - brown grass) for the first time in about 10 years. January is usually the coldest month (should be around -15 degC) and tomorrow (Wed) we're looking at setting a record high of +15 degC (something like potato in degF)

It is all because of climate change. You see, the atmosphere is heating up, causing it to get colder and then it snows in places that sometimes get snow. Where's jonblowjob when I need his help??

Fun Fact. That argument makes sense around the Great Lakes, but we're talking about Georgia here. Plus, you made up global warming in order to secure federal research grants while engaging in fraud.
