Just about sums up my feelings regarding Democrats and Republicans these days...

Living in MA, I'm well aware of how useless Democrats can be, but I'll take them over the Republicans, who seem hell bent on making life even tougher for those of us in the lower middle class and obviously don't give a shiat about any American who isn't extremely wealthy.

"The 'civility' crowd consists of a bunch of rich elites who've convinced themselves that all of America's problems (their list of America's problems basically consists of the federal deficit and 'incivility') would be solved if Republicans and Democrats sat down in a room and all agreed to basically become Rockefeller Republicans." When there were Rockerfeller Republicans, things that needed done got done. They don't anymore.

Republicans: Big government (military and subsidies for companies and in the bedroom); Small government (Less regulation, less tax, less protection from corporate greed)

Democrats: Big government (welfare state, and regulation of toilets and light bulbs, healthcare); Small government (stay out of the bedroom, the abortion room, the pot room, the way of those wanting to poop in Central park.)

Both are big government and small government. Just different ideologies. Both suck. But much like democracy (or a representative republic), this is the worst system ever...except for all the other systems out there.

Rockefeller created a bloatalicious state Medicaid system that has grown by a factor of over 50 in the past 45 years. To this day New York's Medicaid system spends more than the next two biggest state Medicaid systems combined, and the results reach "meh" on only their best days.

And when he wasn't sowing the seeds for decades of public-sector compensation-padding, he was pushing through the nation's most idiotic drug laws. Believe me, you would have have wanted to live under the thumb of the creator of the War On Some Drugs.

I would rather have five Eliot Spitzers than another Rockefeller. (Sure, I'd still get farked, but at least I'd have a nice chunk of change to show for it.)

Republicans want to give your hard earned money to corporations so they can hire you to pay you money to pay the government with. (In theory, anyway. Most of the corporations are corrupt money-grubbing idiots who don't follow through.)

Democrats want to give your hard earned money directly to those in need of it, so they can pay the government too. Mostly because corporations are corrupt money-grubbing idiots who don't follow through.

It takes out the middle man, but in the long run, the corporations produce more. Either way, the government wants your money so that someone else can pay them too.

\fiscal conservative because I hate handouts, social liberal because legislating reality is dumb, which makes me farked in 99% of elections because such things don't exist in politics
\\funny part is, you can probably trace my hating handouts to my brother getting away with not having to rake leaves on our cleared acre yard on the edge of the woods....did I mention the irony of the fact that he's a Republican now?

Obama will be re-elected. The GOP have a huge enthusiasm gap to overcome. None of these candidates excite them. Those that might couldn't win a general. They've pretty much painted themselves into a corner with their extremism.

You are 1/3 correct.

Mitt gets the nomination easily. Crazy isn't winning this year. He loses to Obama in a party line vote with just enough independents stickin with Obama because, "Hey, Romney is just like Obama except he's a change in leaders. And if there is one thing we fear it is change."

Unless something unexpected happens like a serious economic boom or bust, or new war, or sex scandal involving something other than magic underwear.

No one cares that he's Mormon. Well, the Dem's might want to make something of that but I doubt it will go anywhere. Mormons are considered almost human nowadays.

Don't worry, you're in good company.

Grover Norquist developed his tax philosophies on a school bus when he was 13.

An 8-year-old Michael Reagan became cemented in his Republicanism when Poppa Ronnie refused to raise his allowance until Washington lowered the top tax rate.

This. I'm a registered Republican and I'm truly not hearing anything earth-shattering out of these people. The only person who comes remotely close is Romney, but as a Masshole I'm smart enough to know how much of what he says is complete and utter bullshiat. That, and I really don't know what the hell Romney would do with himself if he weren't campaigning for a higher office while working in another capacity.

Either way, most of what both sides have done in the past twenty or so years is blame the other side for everything from toe fungus to the impending end of the Mayan calendar. It's like no one in politics actually realized the reason Obama got elected in the first place is because he wasn't trying to paint it all on Republicans.

\to be honest, the fact that no one else got it is kind of Obama's failing, if you ask me, and why he should give back his Nobel, because it didn't take.
\\And I don't give him credit for taking out half the cast of the opening scene from The Naked Gun because it's the military that did it, not him personally, which is the way half the world and most of Farkdom seems to want to paint it

I_C_Weener: No one cares that he's Mormon. Well, the Dem's might want to make something of that but I doubt it will go anywhere. Mormons are considered almost human nowadays.

Well, it's funny you say that because Fox News had an Evangelical Minister on this morning (Last Name Jeffords or something like that) saying while he considers Mormonism a cult and doesn't consider Mormons "Christians", Evangelicals should vote for him if he gets the nomination...

How that plays out with rank and file bible thumpers, I don't know, but it might be something that keeps certain folks from voting for Mitt.

I used to hate handouts too, until I realized that.
1) I grew up and realized most people with jobs are slack asses (hey look at me posting from work), as well.
2) If the 'market' needs your skills it will pay you more than handouts ever would.
3) Unemployment is at record highs, ending handouts aren't going to help this situation.
4) Technology has reached a level where we don't need everyone to work. We need to figure out how to deal with this issue better though, an excellent education system would be a good place to start though.

It did more harm than doing nothing. Single payor is the only good solution. And we aren't getting that anytime soon. Instead, we get a gift to the health insurance companies. Mandatory insurance, no matter the cost.

That would require the media reporting on Democrats' policy positions as opposed to Republican policy positions. Which doesn't pull down the ratings of birth certificates, socialism and other forms of concern trolling. That shiat *is* what Democrats are talking about, it just doesn't . . . oooo!
