Interesting that they pin this on absorption of chloramines (which is Cl bound with organics, often ammonia, which produces the characteristic smell), by the scrotum, but then proceed to make a distinction between indoor and outdoor pools, where that absorption wouldn't change. Tellingly, they point to the difference between the outdoor pools in the study (backyard as opposed to public), which seems to be far more important than indoor vs outdoor. Overall, the methodology of this study is pretty suspect, if they didn't compare like indoor and outdoor pools, which would have been a trivial matter.
I was in the water of a heavily-chlorinated indoor pool for the better part of my life from age 6-20, so would probably have been a candidate for experiencing this. I guess I'm going to start blaming my moobs on this, instead of my profound lack of exercise.

The study's findings are preliminary, and the researchers plan more tests to rule out other factors such as bath water that may contribute to lowered hormone levels in boys.
So, boys should just stay out of the water entirely?

Your skin absorbs more chlorine from showering in municipal water than if you were to drink a full days supply of water. Fun fact.

Boys are particularly sensitive because the skin of the scrotum is susceptible to absorbing chlorination

Yes. Water is actually packed full of a dangerous chemical known as dihydrogen monoxide (DHMO). It has been well documented for thousands of years that DHMO is the direct cause of countless deaths per year and the list of links between DHMO and major diseases is growing every day. Avoidance of DHMO and public pools is the only solution. But it doesn't just stop at death -

Reduced sperm levels in boys aged 7-18. This is an enormous problem, reduced sperm production IN OUR CHILDREN. Thank god for the follow-up research going on:

This finding will be incredibly important. We need to know the exact cause of this. We need to know what is causing a 20% reduction in testosterone IN OUR CHILDREN. What does this 20% reduction result in? A
(maybe)
reduced sperm count IN OUR CHILDREN! Anything else? Who knows but did I mention it was IN OUR KIDS?
If a 7 year old has a reduced sperm count caused by swimming and he stops swimming, will he be able to reproduce by the time he's 8?! I don't know, nor does the study but this is IN OUR CHILDREN!!!

The point TFA is trying to make is that, in 10 to 20 years there will be an explosion of Blaktino babies born to white mothers and even less civilized white babies than normal, because everyone knows only civilized white people use pools. So if your teenage daughter is passed out at the party and get a train pulled on her the strongest sperm will win.

So ... what they're saying is too much swimming means not enough little swimmers?
That's interesting about scrotum skin absorbing something. Why would it do that? Why not other areas of skin? Does that mean we should start wearing nicotine patches on our balls for better results??

I'm no biologist, but isn't an abnormal 20% change in hormone levels at a prepubescent or pubescent age kind of worth being concerned about? And wouldn't the study have had to go on for years to actually check for the kinds of conditions an altered testosterone level could cause or contribute to?

FTA:
There were no significant hormonal changes in boys who swam in outdoor chlorinated pools.
So the exact same chemicals outside have no effect. Either sunlight neutralizes something in chlorine or there is something fishy about this study...
