let's look at some numbers. in 2010 160 LEOs (including federal agencies) were killed in the line of duty in the US. 59 of those deaths were from shootouts. 59 total shooting deaths nationwide in one year in an occupation where firearms are ever present. 73 succumbed to traffic related deaths. Now, how many people were killed by police or died in police custody in the same year?

some perspective:
-In 2010 there were 33 deaths from dog attacks.
-100 infants die from circumcision complications each year, including from anesthesia reaction, stroke, hemorrhage, and infection.
-In 2009 630 bicyclists were killed.
-Arizona border crossings? 232 deaths.
-According to Cecil Adams of The Straight Dope, one researcher estimates 50 deaths from autoerotic asphyxiation each year.

When close to the same number of people die from hanging themselves while jerking off as police die from being shot you have to re-examine your priorities.
