Paul has one edge the other losers don't have - money. He isn't going to run out of it, even if he doesn't perform well in the primaries initially.

New candidate:

Here is why I am writing to you today: on Tuesday, you will go to your caucuses and choose from among a field of Republican presidential candidates. And let me tell you, the idea of any of these people getting nuclear weapons scares the shiat out of me.This is just one of many differences between your country and mine. In North Korea, we lock up the criminally insane. In America, you let them debate on TV. Right now you have people running for President I would not trust to take care of my plants. So who do I recommend you vote for on Tuesday? In a word, me.If you think about it, I am the most Republican candidate of all. In North Korea, we have no taxes. We have achieved that through a conservative policy of no jobs. Also, we have no wasteful "big government" programs providing food, shelter, or safe drinking water. And am I pro-life? Well, try this on for size: I believe that life begins at conception and ends at starvation. Now, I know what you're thinking: I'm too young to be President, since I'm under 35. Well, who would you rather have running your country, someone who's under 35, or someone whose IQ is under 35? (LOL)I think when you look at all the facts, voters of Iowa, you'll realize that Kim Jong-un is the Republican who most deserves your vote.

The fact that he could win, and we might have a logical discussion of liberty and freedom is exciting.

I love the fact we might debate the role of government, as to if we are free, or they own and protect us.

Firstly, "he could win" is not a fact - it is a piece of self delusion.
Secondly, we can debate those issues without collectively engaging in the equivalent of handing a baby orangutan a bottle of nitroglycerin.

Because slavery was a private institution, not a government one. The slaves weren't property of the state. It took the state to end the institution. In other words, your premise is flawed from the start.

It's not even a question of "enacting" segregation. Segregation will happen if the state stops forbidding it.

I don't agree with paul but I'm wondering what the racial makeup of state governments likely to enact segregation looks like today vs pre 64. Are minorities still under represented enough the government would be able to pass segregation laws?

Start early, learn the rules, and use superior organization and devoted young supporters to dominate the arcane but crucial party procedures in states your rivals are ignoring

I have a hard time believing that the GOP didn't learn from Obama's defeat of Clinton. I keep hearing that "Ron Paul has the best/most organized ground game", but I'd think 3 - 4 years after Obama's success the party power would have found a counter to this.

Carth: I don't agree with paul but I'm wondering what the racial makeup of state governments likely to enact segregation looks like today vs pre 64. Are minorities still under represented enough the government would be able to pass segregation laws?

Like I said, you don't need state governments to enact laws. Just private interests, for whatever reason, discriminating against whole classes of people without the government stopping them to see the return of segregation.

I know people who hate Blacks, but I also know people who hate the Amish. And bygawd, if they could get away with it, they'd hang "no Amish" signs.

I'm sure certain people/businesses would love to discriminate but isn't it Paul's position that the state government should be the ones to prevent that? It is ridiculous to expect all businesses to understand and adhere to 50 different discrimination laws but are there any states that would realistically be able to pass a law allowing discriminate against blacks?

I think Republicans took control of all levels of government in Mississippi back in 2011 but I don't know enough about the state to guess how likely segregation legislation would be to pass.

Abortion on the other hand would be banned in a good number of states as soon as they could hold a vote.
