Woo! I don't care about either team, but I just love outdoor hockey.

Even if it's a minor league team, you should go. It's a blast. So much better in person.

The NHL made a horrible choice holding it today instead of yesterday, when I could have rolled out of bed huingover and turned on the game. Now instead of watching the game I am working and refreshing a browser window for the score.

I am off today, but I agree, they should have done this yesterday. They're afraid to compete with the NFL, which I understand, but playing on Monday is dumb. Saturday would have been better.

Most people get today off, at least those who would get new years off when it fell on a weekday.

Pumped for the game. No horse in this race but should be a blast either way.

Yeah, other than the NFL actually played all their games yesterday.... or did you not notice all of the traditional NYD bowl games are today as well?

Honestly, other than retail establishments, who is working today, especially at a desk job? I thought most places gave the day after off when NYD was on a Sunday?

I'm glad the game is today at 3pm, or noon as we call it on the west coast. Who's up at 10am on NYD anyway?

The three o clock start solidified the beer purchase I just made. Earlier start would have been a beerless game. Yay weather!

AUGH! I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE DAMN ARSON INVESTIGATION! GO WACK TO THE GAME!

Why is Millbury at this game?? He beat up a kid!

Kinda hard to get excited for the "Winter Classic" when it's still no-jacket weather a couple times a week. The shots they showed of the game being played in snow look awesome, though.

2012-01-02 03:05:29 PM
Mildly annoyed that this is only the 5th Winter Classic, and we're already repeating teams. The Pens have been in two, and now the Flyers are already in their 2nd appearance.

There are still plenty of teams who haven't been in one yet.

And of course the obligatory Crysby ass kissing will go on all afternoon

2012-01-02 03:07:29 PM
You're right, most office people are off today, but my office opted to give us Xmas week off instead of today (which I was okay with). I'm just mentioning that most of the people who are watching the Winter Classic are the types that wouldn't watch a bowl game or NFL game if it was the only thing on television.

Most do, yes. And I was being a bit facetious, considering this is the first year since I've been in the military that I've had federal holidays off.

Precious Roy's Horse Dividers: Lots of these today
[ruggierosmarket.com image 552x380]

I'm gonna say something that's gonna get me weird looks: I farking hate those.

No, I like Tastykake in general and LOVE the regular chocolate cupcakes; that's the problem. Stores around here seem to only ever want to carry those damned cream filled ones. I HATE the cream filled ones, and it pisses me off that seemingly every store I go to that does carry the regular ones, they seem to dwindle every subsequent trip until the shelf space that DID carry the regular chocolate cupcakes has been conquered by more of the damn cream filled ones. Same thing with Pop Tarts. Twenty farking varieties of damned frosted Pop Tarts, and you'll be lucky to find even ONE row of normal, unfrosted Strawberry ones. I remember (fondly) when the frosted ones were the "special" ones. Know how bad it's gotten? The unfrosted ones are now explicitly marked as "unfrosted", as if they're the oddballs. Know what they used to be labelled as? farking POP TARTS! I know this isn't some grand conspiracy out to assault my preferences, and that these things are simply driven by consumer demand. Know what? That just pisses me off even more. What is wrong with you people? Why does EVERY farking thing have to be frosted and/or cream filled? HOW MUCH SUGAR AND FAT DO YOU LARDASSES NEED?

/go Rangers

Anyone know if Marc Staal made it back? I know there were some rumblings about that being possible.

So you're saying that most fans of the NHL are only fans because they hate football? You couldn't be more wrong.

Torts confirmed he's back for the game. I'm not thrilled they're putting him out there today, would have rather him take his time, but it was Staal's decision.

Blackhawks fan, so it's hard for me to take sides.

I think they were booing the rendition.

And no God Bless America? I always enjoyed that the flyers did something a little different. Now we get a crappy rendition of a crappy song.

Oh dear lord, it got worse.

No, but if my football team is already out of the playoffs or in an inconsiquential game, the Winter Classic is the much better option for sports. Maybe I'm just venting because I don't get to see it live. No bueno.
