Hockey time!!!!

"Versus" sounded like one of those channels that nobody watched, up there with Fox Soccer on the other side of the pornographical channels from the ones on your cable or satellite provider that people actually did watch. And for good reason.

Hopefully NBC Sports will have something worth watching other than hockey. Even the hunting shows and tractor pulls on Vs. seemed second-rate.

Somebody with the money to go up against ESPN can only result in good things for sports fans.

As far as i know, the only other thing they have access to is US Men's Soccer World Cup Qualifying. I would expect some olympics coverage there as well.

I was in one of the early focus groups when OLN started broadcasting - you can thank us for moving the score and time to the top of the screen instead of on the bottom obscuring most of the puck movement.

Goodnight sweet prince - may you be reborn anew in the manner of CBC HNIC (but I bet you won't)

Things are already looking up, they're broadcasting a NHL game tonight. VS never did Monday night games, did they?

I made sure I had a package that included it just for the NHL games they carried. Other than that I didn't give a crap about it.

I'm gonna miss Sports Soup.

Are they actually changing any of the programming or was this just a name change they kept talking about for the last 3 months?

Hockey in the winter and the TdF in July were the only 2 things to watch on Vs.

not when it's owned by ComCrap.

IndyCar. That's what I paid DirecTV an unsightly monthly fee for, more or less.

According to my wife they have been advertising more "olympic" type sports, i.e. swimming, gymnastics, etc. She's excited about it.

Will they still continue coverage of those penetrating and exciting poker tournaments?

I really hope they try to compete with ESPN in total (like showing sports news regarding teams west of Boston/New York.)

Hopefully its not just Versus with a new logo.

What I'm more pissed about is Comcast, which owns NBC's ass, got rid of NBCUniversal Sports from their listing and put some crappy travel type show or something on.

It was the only channel that showed world cup skiing regularly and now hardly anyone on the east coast will get to watch it.

You are confusing "poker" with "Penn State football."

An honest mistake.

Their IndyCar coverage has actually been pretty good. Hopefully the rebranding gets them some more eyeballs.

too bad my local cable company cut off universal sports channel (also NBC) for this. It was a good place for some non-mainstream sports like Luge, Bobsled, super G, etc and in the summer months the other two grand tours as well as water polo, rugby, swimming etc. I guess I will have to update my cable package now.

14 hours per day of Tour de France on Versus in July is one the reasons I have cable. If I had my way all important sporting competitions would be broadcast by Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen (with Bobke added in for comic relief.)

I see they still carry a daily Dakar Rally highlights show. Here in Canada OLN dropped Dakar last year :(

I hope that is true but, with only 4 ovals this year, I fear the fan base will slowly wither during the season.

NBC Sports Channel -- All Notre Dame. All the time.

Actually, I think they've got a contract with Hockey East, so you'll get to see some good college hockey too. Of course, the fact that ND is moving to Hockey East in 2013 when the CCHA disbands is complete coincidence, I'm sure.

The Universal Sports Channel was over-the-air on a subchannel, at least in Chicago. Now there's a test pattern there. I guess Comcast doesn't like the idea of people yanking the cable in favor of over-the-air programming.

NBC's coverage of bobsled and skeleton is beyond abysmal. Thankfully you can wake up at 3:00 AM and watch the live feed on the FIBT website.

Will they pick up the Giro d' Italia and La Vuelta d' Espana that Universal Sports had?

14 hours a day for TdF will be nice. Not as good as it is in France but better than nothing.

From what I've read is Universal Sports re-designated itself from an OTA channel carried by NBC affiliates in their markets as a sub channel to a Cable channel with a carriage fee. But it's absolutely farking ludicrous that Comcast can't make a deal with it's own sub-division over carrying the channel.

There's an interesting thread on the Comcast support forums. Search google for "Comcast drops Universal Sports".

I may be in the minority, but as a Blackhawks fan who uses Directv for the NHL Center Ice package, it seems the Comcast broadcasts are far superior to other NHL broadcasts across the league.
