Sacramento drafted Cousins with the fifth overall pick in 2010 after he spent one season at Kentucky. The 21-year-old Cousins was averaging 13 points and 11 rebounds in 27 minutes per game this season.

Cousins' behavior has been well documented going back to high school and his one season at Kentucky, mixing in dramatic and astonishing plays with outbursts against players, coaches, trainers and referees. His conditioning has been questioned and so has his work ethic, however, he showed up for training camp in prime condition and appeared ready for a breakout season.

Dear NBA,

Those kids should stay in the college cooker at least 3 years. Most of them need their ass kicked by coaches who earn more than they do. You are stupid to draft these under cooked kids. Most of them never pan out and you have to throw them away. It's a waste of money and time for you and it ruins their careers.

I realize Cousins is a bad person, but he is fun as hell to watch when everything is clicking. I really hope that he settles down and focuses on his game.

Nadie_AZ: Most of them need their ass kicked by coaches who earn more than they do.

He would have been coached by John Calipari, not some stern disciplinarian. In fact, if he stayed at Kentucky he probably wouldn't even be in the rotation anymore. Calipari doesn't give a shiat about the kids he recruits, he cares about John Calipari.

When Rick Pitino thinks you're an asshole, you're an asshole.

I like that move by the coach even though it hurts Cousins trade value even more than his big mouth and obvious maturity issues.

Trade him to the Raiders.

No, Sir, it does not. It speaks volumes about the juvenile behavior of your client. Play with your team, or don't play and sit quietly alone. But stop being such a douche - the both of you.

If this had happened for a legitimate team instead of one that was actively seeking to leave the city they're in themselves, I might side with the team.

Cousins is a douche, but there's no reason for the team to launch any PR assault against him. Just quietly sit his ass if you don't think he'll give his 100% for you, listen to any offers, and go from there.

IAmRight: If this had happened for a legitimate team instead of one that was actively seeking to leave the city they're in themselves, I might side with the team.

This. Sounds like the Maloofs are pulling the strings on Westphal here to go public preaching banal platitudes about "togetherness". Should go over well in the Sac community that knows damn well they want out.

Even when things don't go as well as you may have hoped for, never, ever, publicly ask to be traded.

That is absolutely unprofessional.

Who knows? If he'd simply have given this abbreviated season a chance, he may well have found himself in the playoffs.

I'm as serious as they come. Stranger things have happened. Take the 2011-12 Denver Broncos, for instance.

Playoff-bound!

We'll meet up with Detroit in the Super Bowl to avenge that 35-point Week 8 loss.

After all, good things come to those who wait! ;-)

Try again. (new window)

Then again, I don't think any other college coach could have done a better job with Cousins. I can't recall another incident like that from that year.

Nope. There will be Tebow mini-series on ESPN for years to come. I don't hold that against him. Just ESPN. The dude is prolly mostly okay like my favorite lunch buddy doing his prayers. To me he looks like he's dumping in his pants but to him he is just power praying. I'm cool with it.

There is a chance that you might yet escape from Pittsburgh intact, unbroken, and unmolested by Ben Roethlisberger, but that chance is extraordinarily slim.

Even DeMarcus Cousins would be humbled at the lashing you are about to receive.

A Fark Handle: i wonder where stern will decide cousins should play...

If I were Boston I'd be all over this. If anyone could keep him in line it's Rivers and the vets, and they need something bad to avoid being an afterthought in the playoffs this year.

Boston's first rounder and second rounder this year (in a loaded draft) and the rights to Jeff Green. Does Sacramento say no to that?

konigsforst: I drafted him too. No idea who he is; this is my first time doing fantasy anything.

I was actually referring to "we" as my beloved Minnesota Timberwolves.

Wes is a second-year small forward who's having to play shooting guard. He shows flashes of being good every now and then, but then goes back to playing timidly.

Why on Earth would anyone trade anything for Jeff Green? If he gets a medical waiver, does that save cap space?

Yeah Wes played well tonight. Whole team was shooting lights-out. I don't think Wes missed.

Irrelevant. The Kings aren't worried about cap space. I think they've had to take on salaries to hit the floor.

This is why I wish the NBA would copy the MLB's draft rule for high school players: either enter the draft right out of high school or go to college for three years before entering the draft. Seems it would help both NCAA and NBA.

There's no reason for guys like Kevin Durant and Blake Griffin to waste a year in college. But you know there's always a few Kwame Browns lurking out there, too. If the NBA is going to exploit the NCAA as a farm system, at least do it the right way.

Hey img1.fark.net. You can't demanded a trade in you 2nd year in the NBA. You can only do that in the last year of your contract.

Now I was the Kings I would bench him for the rest of his contract unless I get a trade offer I couldn't refuse. No point in playing him since he won't put 100% into it and it will only increase his value once he become a free agant.

2012-01-03 02:12:03 AM
I don't blame him for wanting out of there. That team is just a bunch of chuckers who won't pass the ball around to save their lives, and the coach can't control them. Nobody's throwing the ball into Cousins, even when he's wide open.

Dear God, please don't let him get traded to the Celtics, and put them back into the hunt. I'm greatly enjoying Mr. Garnett getting humbled by teams that won't even make the playoffs.

2012-01-03 03:53:39 AM
Yeah, he's immature, he should STFU and do his job, etc. etc....

but I've watched the Kings this year (God only knows why), and pretty much every big on that team should be frustrated by now.
They don't run any offensive system, unless you consider "let Evans or Thornton dribble the ball for 20 seconds then hoist up a shot" to be a system. No real plays, no moving the ball around, nothing. And Cousins actually hustles and crashes the boards.

2012-01-03 04:22:27 AM
tallguywithglasseson: Well I guess this makes me feel slightly better about drafting Wes Johnson.

Drafting Wes was alright; Cousins reminded me too much of Derrick Coleman to be worth the risk. I think the only player drafted afterwards that'll end up worth a damn is Paul George. I really wanted Turner out of that group, but even he looks like a bust.
