This is my lack of surprise.

2012-01-02 02:55:58 PM
Once again we see the unfortunate tendency of reality to favor liberals

2012-01-02 02:56:55 PM
Cantor is a congressional leader. He lies for a living. The interesting part is that he's starting to actually believe his own lies.

2012-01-02 03:04:46 PM
I saw part of this last night, it was the most awkward interview ever.

My conservative father who was in the same room was all "of course Cantor had no chance, they just take the worst parts of a several hour interview and mash it together to make him look bad." Liberal media and what not I guess, but I never got an answer as to why one would bother going on a program they knew would make them look awful.

Holy shiat. The man raised taxes more than any President since Truman. And hell, Obama has cut more taxes than Bush.

Because in politics, the only thing worse than bad publicity is no publicity.

Reagan tax hikes? In my vagina?

/It's more likely than you think

Marcus Aurelius: Cantor is a congressional leader. He lies for a living. The interesting part is that he's starting to actually believe his own lies.

no, the interesting/SCARY part is that he gets violent when confronted with reality. that's not 'lying for a living', that's a sign of a deep seated psychological issue. someone who merely lies for a living would just laugh it off and change the subject. they wouldn't fight the matter and demand that everyone around them ignore facts and reality to accept their warped and untrue version of events.

Cantor is displaying signs of a mental disease.

Weaver95: Cantor is displaying signs of a mental disease.

Of course he is. You have to be mentally unstable to be a Republican and spew what they spew every day.

lack of empathy, lies compulsively and reacts violently when confronted getting caught in a lie. I wonder what the DSM IV would have to say about our GOP friends?

I'm waiting for the inevitable, "but technically Reagan didn't raise taxes, because if you look at it this way, you'll see that..." Probably from some dolt.

nope. I worked a double shift yesterday and then stupidly played star wars 'till 6am. didn't get up 'till just recently.

And now my press secretary will interrupt the interview to disregard reality on my behalf, and no one will mind because the media is so liberal.

I don't think Cantor has "thought" about many any things. Remember this is the guy who was willing to sink the country (and the world) just for the joy of obstructing Obama.

2012-01-02 04:13:33 PM
It's kind of messed up that they would take a man who raised taxes as their icon while in constant denial that Reagan never raised taxes. Didn't they think this will bite them in the rear at some point?

2012-01-02 04:13:38 PM
In total, Reagan raised taxes 12 times during his two terms in office.

2012-01-02 04:13:59 PM
I watched it last night. He came across as very reptilian and creepy. At one point I thought he was going to command Leslie Stahl to put the lotion in the basket.

some of the GOP leadership is starting to display signs of mental illness. Cantor and Gov. Walker from Wisconsin come to mind.

HOW DARE YOU SLANDER ST REAGAN YOU HOMOSEXUAL COMMUNIST VERMIN

ST REAGAN WAS A GREAT MAN... A GREAT MAN!

Can we finally now have a national discussion about digging up Reagan and killing him again? fark these people in their assholes - they've now deified this easter egg hunting dead retard to the point they've all broken the 1st amendment.

2012-01-02 04:20:01 PM
You expect these people to believe that Saint Reagan raised taxes?

We're talking about people who KNOW in their hearts as absolute fact that Reagan brought down the Berlin Wall with nothing more than a steely gaze and a whispered "Booya."

Being from Wisconsin i agree. But this is a new year i'm trying to not get into a rage of Walker here on Fark.

I pity Eric Cantor. Even when faced with the truth, he knows that he has to deny it if he wants to be re-elected. Admitting that compromise is not just a core principle of his idol, Reagan, but also an American principle enshrined in the Constitution...he would never get elected again, and he'd be a laughing stock for the rest of his life.

lying scum

/i love the way when he says things like "we are countin' on you" (7.47) he fires up the folksy palin sound

/so sincere

Personally, as soon as the idiot press secretary yelled that out I would have proceeded to play a video of Reagan talking about how he raised taxes.

2012-01-02 04:31:25 PM
well, if you want to get technical, no president has ever raised taxes since only the house can...

having said that, raygun raised taxes and expanded gov't.

dirty liberals.

2012-01-02 04:31:50 PM
Reagan raising taxes is not a part of the GOP revisionist history, it cannot be acknowledged by any current member of the Republican party lest they be kicked out. It is in the pledge.

Admitting that compromise is not just a core principle of his idol, Reagan, but also an American principle enshrined in the Constitution...he would never get elected again, and he'd be a laughing stock for the rest of his life.

And his constituents probably gain a good portion of their wealth from the Federal Government through contracts and other monies he's secured for them. Hypocrisy to the max.

Wait until he finds out it is possible to hold a belief as an individual, yet not be able fully enact that belief in your role as a political agent while remaining agreeable; without having to compromise your "principles".

Don't forget he ran up the debt BIG time on Government spending to boost the economy.

All of this flies in the face of a party's stated stance that is all about being furious that they lost power to a black man. And IF they get the Senate next year, I do believe we'll see and hear a lot about impeachment for 'whatever'. Maybe Ken Starr will come out of the grave to lend them a hand.

"Reagan's historic tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, whose rate went from 70 percent to 28 percent during his administration"

Did it trickle down yet?

Partisanship over governance, ideology over truth.

2012-01-02 04:35:18 PM
Didn't Cantor at one point state that "Atlas Shrugged" is the reason he got in politics and that he requires new members of his staff to read it? Isn't that kind of like hiring an arsonist to be Fire Chief?

Also, if I remember correctly, didn't Reagan raise taxes in part because the tax cuts he championed were a fiscal failure?

History, how does it work again?

What we have here is a people divided by the use of a common language. Permit me to translate between American English and Republican English:

"Reducing top marginal tax rate" = "reducing taxes"
"Raising everyone else's tax" = CHANGE THE SUBJECT
