Sort of kills what little interest I have in Twitter... It's supposed to be stream of consciousness. If celebs start turning this over to PR firms who'll sanitize every "Poop is coming out" moment, how is this any different than every other social media outlet?

I mean, come on, who wants a PR flack keeping Cee Lo from announcing to the world that some random schmuck in Spidercrap, Wisconsin that "You don't know me! You can't talk to me!" because a song change is critiqued?

That's exactly what it is turning into because a substantial portion of the audience gets their jollies off being outraged. As long as people are punished for being themselves expect them to edit themselves. Or hire someone to edit them for themselves.

I follow a bunch of celebrities on Twitter (from Felicia Day to Alyssa Milano), but only those who actually use Twitter themselves - and it's blindingly obvious when people write their own tweets:

Lady Gaga: "Wishes for peace for everybody around the world this new year!" - Publicist

Jewel Staite: "Me and hubby getting drunk in Maui - Happy New Year!" - really her.

PR firm-run Twitter accounts are boring, and anybody who starts using them I'm sure loses lots of followers.

Article fails without Chris Brown's "Planking" comment and TV's Andy Levy's epic response and apology (new window)...

I wonder how much it costs to get an app developed... I have an simple but brilliant idea for reducing the number of stupid tweets made. Or maybe it would be cheaper to patent this idea, so I can go trolling when someone else just writes the app that includes my idea.

I just use my account to post any racist musings or to let everyone know my vacation schedule.

I'm just learning about this now. That was hilarious. That's the best thing to ever come from Faux News, that I'm aware of, anyhow. More proof that even common enemies can agree on things when the time is right.

If you "tweet", you are a self absorbed douche.

Well done.

JasonOfOrillia: That's exactly what it is turning into because a substantial portion of the audience gets their jollies off being outraged.

Well, you're spot on about a good chunk of people getting their kicks off being outraged. Just check out the tampon thread on the main page- some people just haven't had a good day unless somebody hurt their feelings.

JasonOfOrillia: As long as people are punished for being themselves expect them to edit themselves. Or hire someone to edit them for themselves.

Still, it's just not a good idea to say everything that comes to mind. Sure, you can say "I'm just saying what people are thinking," that isn't necessarily a good characteristic. Standard politeness has most of us censoring ourselves regularly. This politeness means we can all get along because we understand that we need to fit into society instead of just barging through social situations like a rhino through a field of tulips. It's your right to say whatever comes to mind, but wise people cut that back a bit and try not to say things they know will be inflammatory or things that might be misunderstood in an open forum.

The ease with which people can post to Twitter and Facebook means we don't have that chance to think things over- we think it, we whip out the phone, we post it where everyone can see it. Before this technology came about, there was more of a lag where we might think "you know, this might not be the best thing to say." Even adults who ought to know better get caught by this, not just teenagers posting stupid crap about Christmas presents.

You only say that because you're German. Now take your towel and go home.

Ahh so your a hipster douche then. Gotcha, tagged as such and forever will it be.

Enjoy hipster. I'll provisionally add you to the anti-Apple cultist list as well, that way you'll at least have the option of not being forever alone.
