You can still smoke in bars here so I have to hang them outside to air out unless I want to wash them every time I wear them. That and the booze I repeatedly spill on them.

Denim collectors will tell you you ruin your jeans by washing them - I think storing them bagged in your freezer (new window) is their way to keep your jeans fresh.

/Has a pair of Evisu's I've owned for 2 years and never washed

No, just plain NO.

EVER wondered what happens if you wear the same pair of jeans five days a week for three months straight without washing them?

So they didn't wear pants on the weekend? Sounds like my kind of gig.

Unless those two extra days were during Mon-Fri, in which case the office might get a bit awkward.

Depends on the jeans. Seriously.

I have 3 pairs of jeans. 2 of them I can wear for 2 weeks solid, in hot weather and, providing I shower regularly, I don't need to wash the jeans at all. Then, I have another pair of jeans that will go really funky after only about 4 days in exactly the same conditions. None of them are cheap jeans but I guess it depends on the material.

I usually wash my jeans after 2 weeks regardless of how bad they smell just cause I don't like them being to grimy. But the funky pair are a real bastard and I wish I hadn't spent the money on them. I also wish I could figure out why the hell they stink so much after only 3 or 4 days of use.

Oh, and Patchouli is not a substitute for personal hygiene. Take a bath and wash your clothes, you stinky hip[ies|sters].

bboy: People who wash their jeans frequently are weird.

Agreed. I thought everyone knew this, but then at college there was a girl on my hall who owned seven pairs of jeans, washing them all once a week. I know because she had to hang them dry in the hall every week, our dryers were so awful.

\None of them was faded, either, so you know she was buying replacement jeans at an alarming rate.
\\You spill something on denim, you wipe it off with water. Done. Unless you have a deeper hygiene problem, they'll never stink. Washing is for removing dust after a windstorm or salt after trudging through slush.

It's not really that... when you wear a pair of jeans (especially those made of raw denim) you break them in and mold them to your body just by moving around normally. Washing them tightens the fibers and when the jeans shrink, you lose that personalization and have to start over again. Also, washing your jeans is one of the major contributors to them ripping (thru the tightening of fibers, then loosening of them for daily wear) - if you have a $300 pair of Deisel/Earnest Sewn/True Religion jeans you'd be less likely to "ruin" them compared to a $50 pair of H&M/Levis.

Hm, I fall in the middle. I typically go a week with a pair of pants since they don't get funky unless I've had a serious spill of some kind.

But I wear clean everything else.

Cuts down on laundry some, which is point.

So much this. I wash mine when they get dirty and replace them when they get worn out. I want to do neither of these more often than I have to.

I wash myself whenever I smell too much of denim.

After about a week of continual wearing, my jeans need to be washed. They get this grimy feeling and I don't really care for it. but yeah, I agree. Pants don't need to be washed everyday. Nor do shirts if you don't sweat in them too much.

I don't have a problem with unwashed jeans. The only reason I (the wife) wash them after a few wearings is to shrink them to fit my waist again. THey tend to stretch and sag after about three days of wearing.

That being said, since I started wearing my jeans multiple times between washing, they last for farking ever and the water bill has dropped. It's a win win.

Ug, my sister had a pair that she didn't wash for 6 years, at least. She would use patches to cover up the holes and it got to the point where the entire pair was nothing but patches. I think they finally fell apart and one of her dogs sleeps with the left over pieces.

We had a guy nicknamed 'stinky' who was a student when I went to school. He was probably 40, pretty smart, but he wore the same clothes every day the entire semester, complete with the same stain on the sweater. I'm not sure they ever came off. You could smell him across a room.

Even if you are homeless you can take showers at the school gym. You're paying for them through your fees, might as well use them.

I though only girls bought $300 pairs of jeans.
Not being snarky or anything, but I thought those brands only sold women's styles.
Mr Soy happily pays upwards of a thousand dollars for his suits, but would never buy jeans that cost more than $50. He thinks casual clothes should be inexpensive.

There's a happy medium between washing clothes after one wearing (other than socks or underwear) and wearing something for weeks at a time before washing. It's called washing them when they NEED it. Dirty? Wash it. Not dirty? Keep wearing it, or put it aside for a day or 2 if you're the sensitive type that gives a shiat that people might say "Oh, NOES...he wore those jeans yesterday!"

Most high-end clothiers have fashions for both men and women - so why not jeans? Granted, men's jeans tend to be a bit less than women's - You can get a pair of men's Diesel's for about $129.00 - but it depends on the fabric and finish. And speaking as someone who owns both high-end (Hugo Boss Tailored Selection, Tom Ford, Ermenegildo Zegna)as well as mid-line (Theory, Michael Kors) suits, you can tell the difference in the way they feel and the way they fit. It's the same with jeans - as someone who didn't think there could be much difference between a $35 pair of 501's and a $200 pair of Diesel's, there's a big difference in how they fit and how long they last.

I only wash my jeans probably every 3 months, shirts, shorts, socks and underpants I wash after 1 wearing. I sweat a bit (on my upper body at least), but jeans can take it. (and I can't afford a pair for every day)

2012-01-02 03:16:08 PM
The idea of wearing the same pair of jeans for that long without washing them makes me feel ill. *You* might not think they smell bad, but I am sure the people around you think differently. Then again, I have a warehouse job where I sweat a lot all day long. I suppose if you are a pencil pusher and/or keyboard jockey at some place that actually has air conditioning, you could get away with washing them less often.

Why would these "suits" you own fit differently? Why weren't they all tailored to your body? And if you're going to go into stitching and so forth, then it's the tailor that's the difference not the "suit". (Or maybe you gain and lose 25lbs at random intervals?
