NWA Tried the same thing on March 27, 1988, by programming Clash of the Champions 1 against Wrestlemania 4.

Cable companies got pissed, because Wrestlemania was their big payday, and Ted Turner went apeshiat and told them never to do that again.

Of course, he bought Jim Crockett Promotions (the main face of the NWA) a few months later, so ruthless aggression counterprogramming never did happen again.
