How about leading the US for sensible immigration laws - requiring painful enforcement - even if the Federal Government hates them?

(No, I'm not being sarcastic, I'm preempting the anti-US/AZEIR folks that want amnesty by virtue of guest worker programs).

Well what do you know. Arizona is a place, and stuff happens there.

"Painful?" Why does enforcement have to be "painful?"
What are we going to do, give them noogies or purple nurples when we round them up? Make them ride in detention buses with uncomfortable seats?
I don't see the point, and it sounds kind of vindictive, as well.

Can't argue with the Chimichanga, but the first one I ever had was back when I lived in Oregon.

It causes some initial pain to businesses to adjust to having to hire citizens and use machines instead of less-than-legal labor. Businesses think they have some incorrect right to be above the law and bypass citizens, while asking citizens to be "competitive".

I'm special because 3 of my grandparents were born in the US and my kids are special because they are can date themselves back to 1687. Damned indigenous peoples who think they can ignore artificial borders. Don't they understand manifest destiny? God herself has mandated that I'm special and they are not.

Well, I like a good chimichanga but a proper Navajo Taco is much much better, so I disagree. I have hiked in and out of the Grand Canyon, love Tucson, but New Mexico is better ... at least from a tourist point of view.

"modern conservatism". Conservatism was not always so banal.

well yeah, arizona has had a very small population up untill the last 30 years so of course it isnt as influential as older more established areas with large populations. its a young western state.

to all those that are calling racism... Not wanting people with low earning potential entering the state and lowering the GDP percapita is not racism.

I don't get this: today's conservatives are far removed from Goldwater; they're "NEO," not modern. "Today's conservatives" are hardly practicing traditional conservatism - men of intellect have been replaced by idiots and beyond.

What the pundits call "conservative" today is actually regression. Conservatives used to maintain the status quo. Before the age of crazy, Obama would have been called a conservative (and run as a Republican) because, like it or not, he has pretty much maintained the status quo in the precedents set by his predecessor.

/If Arizona had any sense, it would leave "modern conservatism" in a basket on a doorstep, rather than claiming it
