EnviroDude: what Luck!

I see what you did there.

I just an awful thought. What if the Colts decided after losing Manning, to just play well enough to lose and secure the 1st round pick? I understand that is insulting to the current team members, but I can't remember an instance ever where a team tanked so bad after losing one player.
It's still hard to believe the Colts were this bad, even without Manning.

Can we please get a "Jets crash into the season-over building" thread?

We've all known the Colts were getting the number one pick for a while now.

Behold the glory of Curtis Painter. Colts should put him into their Ring of Honor if Luck turns out half as well as advertised.

You might be the first person to ever suggest a team would lose on purpose to secure a draft pick.

They will gold plate Luck's first jock and send it to Painter c/o whatever CFL team he's signed to next year.

Well if they would have won and st Louis(I think) lost then they would have the first pick.

Now I wonder if they keep the pick or trade it for a shiat ton of picks, I guess they could keep luck and just let him mature under manning.

Don't want him up here really - send him home please!

/Suck for Luck, geez. There is a reason other sports have a lottery for the first few picks in the 1st round of the draft.

As Colts GM, I would realize I would be sitting on a gold mine. There are so many teams in need of a QB right now that I would seriously consider trading down; Indy has waaaaayyy too many issues across the board. Someone had said that landing Luck would cost three first round picks and a few second and third round picks. I get all of the Luck hype, but taking any QB in the first round is a hit or miss proposition. Trading down would allow you to hit the reset button on the team and draft almost an entire group of offensive or defensive players.

You're all assuming Manning ever plays again. I think he's broken.

Its all a gamble but that's what I would do as well, with the new rules you can afford to keep first round picks, you will hear about it later though if luck develops into an all-world qb.

One of those teams is the Colts. If not now, soon.

CFL teams stupid enough to take painter or eventually Tebow...

Toronto Argonauts

Agree x100. If someone is willing to give you multiple first rounders and other picks for the guy, take it and run. If there's one thing this season should have shown them, it's that the Colts have many more pressing issues than at QB (even if Peyton doesn't come back).

That is what I have been saying - there are more issues than the quarterback problem and I would trade for a few better players than roll the dice with Luck. Oh, and I would send Curtis Painter to Somolia a year to pay penance for sucking so badly...

Personally, my bet is on the Jaguars. New owner might want to make a statement and trade up to nab Andrew Luck is my thinking.

Yeah the Jaguars need a good quarterback. The Colts need a linebacker, a good o-line, a good defense, and a partridge in a pear tree. They don't need a quarterback right now.

Andrew Luck doesn't need a resistant receiver whose name is Santonio Holmes. Still putting Sanchez on the market for the number one pick might be a good idea. None of the former USC quarterbacks in the last decade have not led any team into the Super Bowl and the Colts would be gullible in getting him.

Well, not exactly true, the Colts DO need a QB...but this is a very deep QB draft. They can trade down and still get Landry Jones, for example. Hell, they could trade down and, if they got enough, then trade up again and take RGIII. And RGIII running like hell might do better behind that O-Line anyway.

I still want to see Caldwell fired. He doesn't deserve to oversee the rebuilding phase of the Colts. There are too many good options available (trade Manning for picks and build team around Luck, or trade #1 seed for picks to give Manning one more shot at Super Bowl) to rebuild this franchise the way a good coach could, to see it ruined by some empty suit like Caldwell. Of course I'd rather see Manning retire than play for a different team, but I'd imagine he'd be worth a lot to other teams.

Are the Jags and Vikes already willing to give up on Ponder and Gabbert? I haven't seen them play this year, but it seems awfully futile to use a high pick on a QB, then toss him away the next year, unless he has hit unparalleled dimensions of suck...

Gabbert looks both bad and soulless and, as I said, I think the new owner might want to make a statement, take the hyped up Luck, say "I'm going to build this franchise up and good. NOW COME BUY SOME TICKETS.".

Ahhh, ok. Then I think in this case the NBA is the "weird" league.

I hope Andrew Luck plays another year of college football just to spite the Colts. Whether it's intentionally throwing their perfect season in 2009, or consistently making indefensible QB decisions this year, it's clear that they're willing to lose today for a chance to win tomorrow, and I have no respect for that kind of attitude.

merkey88: Do all of you not pay attention? This WAS a deep qb draft year, until several key guys decided to go back for another year.

Which makes trading the pick an even better idea. They can get more and fill more holes. Then, if Manning is out, they sign a good free agent or even go with a journeyman this year and get a franchise QB next year.
