Or Jack Frost on the windowsill
But if someone's climbing down your chimney
You better load your gun and shoot to kill

I heard about this on NPR the other day. The guy they were interviewing said that this usually happens when a Democratic president is up for re-election. People automatically think guns will be banned.

FTA:

He said: "There are a lot of people concerned about pending gun legislation and the sense about the current administration. People think future availability will be limited and there's a feeling of get it while you can."

----

And that "pending gun legislation" would be?
Answer: None. Doesn't exist. Passing it would be politically untenable anyway. *And* under this administration gun owners can take their guns into *more* places than they could before (most National Parks). Yet sentiments like the above persist.

Look, I'm a gun owner. I like guns. But it seems like a not unsubstantial number of gun owners are crazy paranoid. They act at times like the very kind of person you wouldn't want to give a gun to.

While that may be true, I bought my guns (not that recently, but I do have plans for a Saiga 12 as a late birtday gift to myself) because I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Plus it's fun to take my SO out to the range, she absolutely loves my .45 Colt.

The first gun show I went to after Obama was elected had several booths with "Buy 'em while you can!" posters, but I attributed it mainly to shiatty marketing and opportunism.

Obama and his VP competed with each other during the first election to see who could be the most "anti". His Supreme Court justices, Attorney General, Secretary of State and head of the BATFE are all demigods in the anti movement. "Fast and Furious" was a blatant attempt to manufacture "evidence" so support previous claims.

Once the political constraints of a first term are removed, it's a safe bet that he'll push that agenda.

People who buy guns at U.S. shops with the intent of secretly transferring them to someone else-a tactic known as "straw buying" that is at the heart of Mexican border violence-should face new, stiffer prison sentences, Holder declared.

Oh the irony.....so how much of a stiffer sentence is Holder and Obama facing....

And, despite what some right-wing fiction has to say about it, EMP is a non-starter as far as doing "massive damage". It'll do SOME damage. So far, it's also off the radar as far as "nation states, rouge states, and organizations that can deploy this". The US couldn't even do it very well.

A lot of this surge is Wisconsin's new CCW law that went into effect on Nov. 1st. There's a whole lot of Fudds now buying pistols they can put in their pockets or conceal.

Politically, the whole "we can detain you indefinitely for no reason because terrorism" law that just got passed DOES make "shoot the LEO through the door" an option more on par with compliance as far as consequences go. They are going to fark you out of your life and liberty anyway (now, without trial) so there's less of a reason not to simply open fire and hope it actually is bad guys out there.

Even if you don't think Obama and his crew aren't going to do anything, the Repubs once they get back in office, sure as frack will.

The "oh you can now carry in national parks" is bullcrap. You always could, the law was unconstitutional at it's core. Obama and the democrats in congress have done a whole lot to restrict guns but the implementation of the rules has been kept waiting in the wings.

Guns don't decay, they don't go stale, they don't go bad. Likewise, ammo. I have been shooting 8x57 mm JR rifle rounds my dad bought in 1951 and they all worked great. The only difference, back then, he paid $3 a box. The same rounds are $29 bucks a box now (not available locally, so that's shipping included). Even after inflation, that's like three times the cost.

If you shoot, you cannot go wrong buying now as opposed to later for either firearms OR ammo. Whenever I am at a store that sells ammo, I always get a box of something in one of my calibers.

Want to know the truth? Youtube ...."Katrina Guns". See whats coming for confiscation. There's a great video of the National Guard breaking into an old ladies home, beating on her and taking her pistol. Our Gubment used it as a test to see if people would obey them. Sadly most gave them up in a heart beat.

Well Operation Fast & Furious was designed to arouse anti-2A feelings in America. Obama has stated that they are working "behind the scenes" on new gun control legislation. I think they will wait until after the re-election to really start in on it. The new defense bill makes it possible for the gov't to detain American citizens as long as they want. Add to that the DHS memo about homegrown terrorists in the form of right wing gun owners (and ex-vets) and well, the groundwork has been laid.

Kinda scary.

Spike's are on par with Stag. Step or two up from CMMG in fit & finish.
I'm just using them for coyotes and fun at the range. Can't justify a high dollar one right now. Some of the PSA uppers use FN barrels so it should shoot decently. I imagine I'll have to tune the gas block but that's easy enough.
