On the bright side, Holmes has shown himself to be sufficiently maladjusted to make a smooth transition to the Bengals.

As I was seeing the post game interviews I had to rewind a few times to get the gist of all of it. I have to say that this couldn't have happened to a better bunch of douche bags. I really like Complainian piling on too. Wasn't he the "classy guy" when all others were not?

/FU Rex.

You kidding? This man has Raiders material written all over him

Holmes needs to go. Jets fans may be used to losing, but quitting like a spoiled baby is not acceptable. Schottenfired needs to go too. And being this is ESPN, I'm sure they will be milking this story for a month since to get hired as executive there you have to give a rimjob to Robert Kraft.

With leadership like Ryan and Sanchez in the sleaziest media-whore-motel city in America what did you expect to happen?

Pretty much this. Holmes thinks he's god's gift to football just because he caught the winning touchdown pass in superbowl XLIII. I can think of at least 10 or 11 wide receivers I'd rather have on my team than Santonio Holmes.

In their most desperate moment, they actually did something I respect - bench their captain for being an ingrate. Fortunately, this barely diminishes my schadenfreude in the Jet's failure to make the playoffs.

On the bright side Jets fans, Rex has now boasted about winning as many championships as Belichick actually has. That counts for something, right?

Clearly, cutting Derrick Mason solved all the personnel squabbles.

/This organization needs to be dissolved & re-built from the ground up.

I had Holmes on my fantasy team. He was on the bench there too. What a disappointment.

So essentially, the Jets friggin' suck.

"It's tough for guys to follow a captain that kind of behaves in that manner," Tomlinson said. "You're a captain, guys looking at you. You've got to lead by example. You've got to play your tail off until the last play. And when that doesn't happen, you will have guys look at you in the way that captains shouldn't be looked at. You should always put yourself out there as a leader."

I think I see what the problem is here, subby.

/I keed, I keed

///actually I don't mind the Jets - they beat the Patriots in the playoffs last year, which was great news for my Steelers, plus I find Rex Ryan very entertaining :)

This. This. This. This.

Cruz is a very welcome addition to the team. Nicks, Cruz, Tuck. When they are on the field the whole team plays better. I hope they throw money at Cruz after the season and he never leaves.

For the most part I agree, but if a captain quits and acts like a little douche, shouldn't he be called out publicly for such douchery? I don't know, I don't have a problem with that.

good for them!
that coach is an ass, and their player cheat!
I would never watch a jet game in public again, and keep away from them fans.
they never congratulate the other fans after a typical jet loss.
Most (98%) jet fans I know are very arrogant and verbally blame the ref for even loss.
except for maybe 4 jet fans.....who still are annoying.
i noticed this since 1986.

I clicked this expecting some sort of humorous shoop involving a different Holmes but, no, it was, in fact, just a photo of Santonio's giant schlong...

9beers: How about a college football thread?

Not until there are playoffs.

2012-01-02 01:04:15 PM
What is most amusing is Ryan's attempts to portray himself as being above the fray, but instead coming across as a guy who doesn't know who is doing what. So, he saw one of his best receivers sitting on the bench, but didn't ask anyone why? Please. The guy loves the media when he's making all sorts of stupid predictions and actually winning a game or two, but quickly tucks and runs when there is any semblance of anyone questioning his leadership.

/and Sanchez continues to suck
//until he'll have one game out of five where he actually does well
///against the Bills

All you need to know about the Jets and Holmes yesterday was a lineman had more catches for more yards than Holmes.

2012-01-02 01:53:12 PM
Bengals don't want any of Holmes. We got rid of players with inflated egos last season with Ochocinco, Owens, and Palmer. We just made the playoffs with AJ Green and Jerome Simpson as receivers and Andy Dalton as quarterback.

The Jets are terrible once again. I hate the Jets more than the Steelers right now. I'm glad they're not playing spoiler in the playoffs again this season. I'm also glad we got draft picks by conning the Raiders with Palmer. Holmes just sitting on the bench in the closing minutes of the Dolphins game was icing on the cake for me.

2012-01-02 01:53:53 PM
Today someone in the movie theatre told me to sit down. It may have been someone from the Jets coaching staff, but no one is really sure...

Meanwhile, 100 miles to the south, an upbeat Desean Jackson put his finger on a surefire way of insuring Eagle dominance next year was for the home crowd to stop farking booing them all the time.

Mmmm-hmm. Until A.J. Green and "Red" Dalton come to Mike Brown asking for him to pay them their actual worth in their next contracts. Following that, he'll laugh in their faces, try to cut corners buy getting some pathetic excuses for linemen/coaches/etc. You have fun supporting Mike Brown's tax write-off all you want, I'm done with that shiat.

Jets are such a broken team. You have the line up that you do and can't even make a wildcard spot? Pathetic.

I'd fire Ryan and trade Sanchez for a 5th round pick and a sack of footballs.

InferiousX: Jets are such a broken team. You have the line up that you do and can't even make a wildcard spot? Pathetic.

Honestly, speaking as a Pats' fan, I thought the Jets had overachieved something masterful over the past couple years. They have a couple nice obvious pieces on defense but I would consider most of their starting 11 on that side of the ball "average". I do think little Schottenheimer is a crap OC, but he doesn't have a lot to work with other than a "meh" running game and an overrated WR corp.

DubyaHater: They'll always have Super Bowl III and Broadway Joe The Doug Brien Double-Choke, the Marino Spike, Gastineau Roughing The Passer, The Kotite Years, Mr. Riggins Goes To Washington, If That Was A First Down There Must Be A Holding Penalty On Chris Ward, Lam Jones Drops Another Sure TD, and of course the Cavalcade of Epic Fail First Round Draft Picks

FTFY.

The despair, tears and kvetching of Jets fans have nourished me for many years, and this year has brought so many new delights. Still, one does yearn to remind Jets fans of fails of days gone by:

Before the Jets took the field at the Astrodome tonight, everything unfolded so beautifully for them to make the playoffs. Miami had done its part by losing to New England in overtime. The door was open. All the Jets had to do was walk through it.

Instead they walked into a buzzsaw as the Houston Oilers tore the Jets to shreds and trashed their playoff hopes with a 24-0 victory before a raucous crowd of 61,040 at the Astrodome. With so much on the line and in the biggest game of the season, the Jets came up completely empty...

Watching the Jets be eliminated by a team quarterbacked by Matt Moore is almost as much fun as it was in '94 watching a Jets team succumb to the mighty one-two punch of the two immortals: Cody Carlson and Bucky Richardson.

2012-01-02 03:18:57 PM
The Jets off season implosion, is off to an epic start this year. They really do enjoy media attention, I don't think it matter if it's good or bad attention.

I've been listening to Mike Francesca try to explain to meathead callers that you can't just cut Santonio and bring in Peyton without having to deal with a little thing called the salary cap.
