Well, you know what? The FDA keeps revising the food pyramid, the kids are taught nutrition in health class, and the nutrition info on the box is almost as big as the box itself. We've tried education and kids just get fatter. Maybe throwing them in front of a harsh mirror will do the trick.

And it doesn't surprise me that it's GA parents throwing a fit. Not to bring politics into it, but when Mrs. Obama was in Alpharetta in February supporting her Let's Move program & healthy eating, she got booed & accused of telling parents how to raise their kids. There were even protests at the church she was speaking at.

Campaigns that stigmatize things can be tricky. Some of the anti-smoking campaigns are the least effective things ever. The ones that are the most effective are the ones that focus on how tobacco companies manipulate their product to maximize addictiveness. The least effective ones are the ones put together by the tobacco lobby to mollify the government so everyone can pretend that positive steps are being taken.

You want to get people to eat healthier than focus on the market skewing farm subsidies and the effect of big agriculture.

The worst thing about the obesity epidemic is all the low-fat low-sodium low-sugar food on the market. You can't turn around without accidentally buying the horrible tasting "healthy" version of the regular item. Nothing like starting to eat a nice steak pie from a local shop only to discover there's no salt in it because they wanted to promote their pies as heart friendly. Do you any idea how bad a meat pie tastes without salt?

Guilt trips and scare tactics are not the way to get anyone to lose weight. This only makes the problem worse. It is almost like the adult/child who has an addiction to food because their skinny parent didn't want a fat child.

I agree full with that. If the food lobbyists can influence changes in the food pyramid. Then what is a true guideline to eat healthy?
