It's good to see Björk hasn't lost her edge.

2012-01-01 04:29:40 PM
Bikini Kill, Sonic Youth, Siouxsie and the Banshees, X, Kim Deal, Karen O and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, to name just a few, are not impressed with your trolltastic headline.

Hmm. That was weird... in not particularly a good way. The bassiness was ok, the rest, meh.

several good things -
Horrendous - The Ritual (death - I'm eagerly waiting for this one)

Azarath - Deathstorms raid the earth (death)

Aosoth - Embrace the Enlightenment (black; got damm!)

Haeres - Dans les méandres d'un esprit malade (black; Canadian, but still good)

Decayed - Thy Summoning (black)

Cough - Northern Plague (sludge)

Indian - Ration (sludge; this album's being re-released at the end of January)

I'd like to think that subby is actually intentionally inciting a deluge of responses containing female-fronted metal acts. But that means my cynicism has been turned against me! Crimony...moving on.

As far as I'm concerned, these are The Biggest Balls in Metal today.

Those are some big balls.

I'm still totally in love with Onielar -

Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult - The Dead Hate the Living (new window)

Christmas song? Stupid Kids (new window)

I'm always impressed at what music can come from people in even the most fundamentalist of societies. Violent oppression breeds seething rage? Our first world problems are so mediocre compared to what it takes to make something like this.

/She sounds hot.

n.b. Many moons ago I came across several clip-lists on youtube of female-fronted metal bands. I tihnk it got up to five videos of around a dozen bands each. Was interesting, some good bands, a lot of hot chicks.

It's nice to see that women can make shiatty metal just as easily as men.

Listen to new Pagan Altar:

Dance of the Vampires (new window)
Portrait of Dorian Gray (new window)

2012-01-01 05:46:53 PM
Esoteric - Aberration (new window)

Funeral doom from their double CD released in November. I don't think it's been mentioned.

-----

Doommantia (new window) had links to 3 free compilation albums a few days ago. Pretty sure Doommantia has been mentioned here before, but just in case, if you're a doom/sludge/stoner/etc fan, it's a good resource.

Bad Moon Music (new window)

Slow Burn Records (new window)

Solitude Productions (new window)

Personal favorite tracks from these all come from the Solitude compilation:

Track 4: Stangala - Al Lidou Esoterik An Dolmen Hud
Not up on youtube, but available on their Myspace (new window)

Track 9: The Undergrave Experience - Mater Mortalis Tenebrarum
At just over 24 minutes, it's not on youtube either.

Track 10: Septic Mind - Doomed To Sin
It should be no surprise by now, this one isn't on youtube.

No arguments here.

A few more scary female metal vocalists.

Kriegtalith from Darkestrah (new window)

Tristessa from Astarte (new window)

Onielar from Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult (new window)

And a little doom from Thorr's Hammer (new window) to cleanse the palate.

/I'm in the minority I guess, I like Julie Christmas' stuff (Battle of Mice (new window) was a fantastic band)

Screaming does not equal singing.

And purposely singing out of key is not art.

That video was shiat.

2012-01-01 07:31:25 PM
So have Made Out Of Babies broken up?

/Julie's definitely unique by any metric

2012-01-01 07:34:44 PM
Did they use iPhones to make the video?
Also, she's effin hawt. I would do stuff to her that would make Ron Jeremy blush.

Her screeching was slightly less annoying than other bands of similar awfulness. Kudos.

She sucketh.

2012-01-01 08:35:04 PM
Is it so much to ask that they just be able to sing? Just a little bit, that's all....

2012-01-01 09:23:19 PM
That was awful. I hate being screamed at.

That was cool, it's great to see a heavy artist making a video that's got some artsy weirdness to it, I'm sick of the 100% green screen performance videos in metal nowadays.

Good contribution, subby.

Anybody ever listen to the screamo band The Assistant? I haven't listened to them in at least a decade and I quoted their intro in an earlier thread. A female shares vocal duties so I might as well share. Getting all nostalgic here.

93,800 hours (new window)(has the intro)
Humyn Capital (new window)
F.orever A.ngry at M.y I.nner L.ove for Y.ou (new window)
isabelle hates charlie (new window)(clean vocals)

I never see Theatre of Tragedy get any love in SHMHC but they've always been one of my favorite beauty and the beast style doom band.

Then we'd need Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. Though I'm still not entirely sure that what SGM produces is actually music.

Both good points (still one of my favorite videos ever though).

More strange but good female-vocaled music -
Diablo Swing Orchestra (new window; and they have a new album coming first quarter 2012 - I feel like I've been waiting for years)

I'm really not a metalhead, though there is some that I'm oddly fond of.

I will admit to using it as study music when I don't want to notice the outside world.

/One song sounding roughly like the next with no strange song transitions to pull me out of the zen state. Decent, if not spectacular, riffs covering up creepy vocals.

That's why God invented post-rock/post-metal.

Isis - In Fiction (heavier)
Maybeshewill - He Films The Clouds, Pt. 2 (post rock with some electronic influence)
Alcest - Écailles de lune (a cross between black metal and shoegaze, not really a post-whatever, but it merits mention)

That's what average/good death or black metal is for, particularly if the creepy vocals are incomprehensible. It's like a fancy white noise machine.

Pretty damn creepy. Listened to it twice and I dig it. Feels like a sludgier intronaut mixed with some post rock and avant garde styling.

As subby said, it's "heavy music." At least twice as much weight as any other music of identical length. Depending on your elevation, of course.
