It wasn't fireworks last year. The government poisoned them (new window) and the probable did the same thing this year. Don't know why the media cannot remember, unless the "mystery" story makes better print.

The government has been poisoning black birds for decades.

There are all sorts of articles on the net about the USDA poisoning program (new window), and I believe one was green lighted about 8 months ago.

One glimpse I caught of a bird corpse in the video looked like a starling not a blackbird. Or is that a common name in Arkansas for a starling?

LarryDan43: Yep, durn fireworks again. Guesses we need to pretend it's July 4th, cuz dem birds don't seem to go as crazy that day.

The main difference being that usually the 4th fireworks are just after sunset whereas a large part of New Year fireworks are after midnight. Especially those from individuals which would be spread all over town.

Yea, just after dark is not as dark as midnight.
So what its STILL DARK!
Why not anywhere else?
I wouldn't be suprised if it wasn't some big sick joke if it were possible to get this many dead birds.
Where does one get hundreds of dead birds?
Sicker and yet funny, throw in a dead penguin or other flightless bird ( one that died naturaly)
Can you imagine what kind of crackpot ideas that would produce?

2012-01-01 05:32:22 PM
As to the fireworks idea, Why don't they get scared by thunder?
I think they get caught in some updraft and the cold kills them.

Pants full of macaroni!!: Is it possible to have a Headline Of The Year contender this early in the year?

This definitely a contender for Headline of the Week. Those generally end up being contenders for Headline of the Year later on.

I agree ... It's likely HAARP. The NDAA was signed on new years eve.they are practicing for the widespread extermination of animals and "quarantine" of sick or dangerous humans. 2012 NWO conspiracy.

Has anyone been following the seismic activity in that area? I have been keeping an eye on that area as it happens to be close to (approx. 5 miles south of) the triangle of Arkansas that has been having almost all of the state's earthquake activity for the last few years. the triangle is defined as : Searcy, Conway, and Quitman. The are came under scrutiny for "fracking", a process that can cause small quakes in the spring of last year. The USGS issued a cease and desist order for the fracking wells saying that the quakes should stop in a few weeks, or possibly a couple of months. in october, the USGS issued a statement saying that they did not know what was causing the relatively shallow quakes (2-6 miles deep). Also, there is recent evidence to suggest that a supervolcano caldera may exist in that part of Arkansas. The area certainly has signs of geological activity with hot springs and the quakes. There is a possibility that these birds are a sign of degassing from the region. And they are not the only ones found, there was a kill of waterfowl in the area as well (can't seem to find the photo... it was from earlier last year, a blacktop road with a bunch of american grebes dead on it).

About those shallow quakes... the USGS used to call them something else, but quit because the old name causes panic. The old name was "magmatic". Supposedly, shallow frequent quakes accompanied by harmonic tremors (these have been noted with a few the quakes in Arkansas) indicate underground magma movements.

/happy 2012 farkers!
